Lovely, Ginger!!!!
Gardening In AUSTRALIA . Way Way South !
Beautiful-what zone are you in exactly?
We don't have zones here .
We call it Hot , Hot , Or Really Hot .
So if you like Hot ? This is the place to be .
It has NEVER snowed on the Gold Coast .
WOW! It rarely snows here, but, wouldn't you like to have a little snow? Just once to go sledding, have snowball fights, etc.
I don't plan to grow up, ever :)
But I never wanted to go to all these places until I saw pics. Around here I could take some shots of barbeque restaurants....new housing developments....the new dumb Wal-Mart.......anyone?
I'll trade a weekend of weed watching for a trip to Walmart right now.....some things hard to find here....and not to mention the cost....everything comes by boat or plane.....no snow ever here either!!!
Haha! I'll trade anytime, John! When my folks were living in the Marshall Islands I mailed them stuff all the time--kinda a pain but I'd rather have electroshock than go to Wal-Mart, personally-lol
Maybe so, but a case of beer doesn't cost you 40 US dollars though....OUCH!!! maybe i should be growing barley and hops!!!!
red rum spelled backwards is murder!
Aurabest,
j
Yikes! Good thing rum is my favorite...you must have plenty of that there.
My fiance grows hops and brews his own beer-you could probably buy supplies and brew your own for cheaper than that!
May have to look into that, thanks...
hmmmmmmmmmmm...a beer forum......nah, that would get ugly....
hey Kell, do you enjoy a VB now and then???
j
John I prefer XXXX Gold .
VB is from Victoria ,
I'm a dinky die Queenslander .
And we drink either Bundy Rum or XXXX .
But I am very partial to Crown Lager .
It's from Vic. and costs $54 a Slab .
Tastes like the Danish Tuborg .
what's a slab?
That's what we call a Box / Carton of beer .
A slab of beer is 24 small bottles in a cardboard box .
Or it can be 24 cans .
Gotta start a BAR thread .
What you Guys / Gals think ?
I did mention it last Xmas .
Maybe John should start it ?
Gosh, that seems like a lot, but I don't know the currency exchange is there...
There's never enough bars for me, Kell. We live in a dry county.
I used to live in one of those in Arkansas...man did I put some miles on the truck!!!!
I prefer Guinness but I am starting to look like a loaf of bread, so I mix it up with Heinekin...all the beer is about the same price so why would I choke down an old milwaukee when i can enjoy a greenie?
cheers, it's almost friday!! at least here....already gone for others....
j
Your $ is worth about 80 Aus. cents .
Thats why US cars are so expensive here .
A new Mustang is worth more than $70,000 here .
Yes John ,
I'm sitting here in Saturday 7am ,
and lovely warm sunny weather .
You yanks still have friday night to look forward to .
Now don't yall drink to much . ( red rum )
Wow, I am truly amazed at how much cheaper beer is here then. But again, I prefer Spiced Rum, beer gets so heavy on you.
Gosh!!! I will go ahead and shut my mouth--apparently our cost of living here has me spoiled!
They are terrible for you-I know I'm weird, but I don't like them myself-never did. Thought I'd try them and got really , really sick!
Capt'n Morgan just walked thru the door---gotta go!lol
Good evening kids....or afternoon for those down under(Kell)....
Finally home and glad to be here...rained most of the day here and everybody in the ground seems happy...even a bunch of new growth on my leggy hibiscus....
Kell, it seems as the Oz dollar is about equal to the CI dollar...US 1 dollar is worth 80 cents here...I get paid in CI dollars and that is a big help...they say this place is tax free, meaning you dont pay any sales tax, etc. but, there is a duty paid on everything imported and that is everything...duty is another word for tax...although duty is something you do in the morning after the first cup of coffee and tax is the only thing other than the grim reaper that you can't avoid...
enough of this..
A few of you have shown an interest in underwater images and I have a bunch to share but don't want to upset the apple cart as this is a gardening forum. Maybe I can start a new thread here in the Tropical gardening section, post some pics, and I am sure that Shari will add some to it...and see what kind of traffic the thread receives. I don't want to get into trouble nor "tee" anyone off for posting images not related to gardening....i do see forums for pets, coffee sit and chat about your day, car questions...just not sure where I should start a new thread...I made a post a few weeks ago named "not another forum" and touched on this subject....let me know what y'all think and we can take it from there...
My labrador just finished my Guiness for me so time for a new one....standing by here in cayman.....
John , I think you should start it right here .
It was your Idea . I can start it if you like .
Let me know ASAP.
I'm thinking of a new thread so we don't distract from this one....maybe something like underwater gardens, fish, and assorted creatures of the deep!!!
The last image is of a White Ball Chorallimorph, a tube dwelling worm that only comes out at night, normally they have orange balls on the ends but I happen to know where this white one lives.....an old image shot on film....have many more shot digitally as my film bill got out of hand...all digital now...shooting wise....i will declare format when posting an image, either film or digital...i can bore everyone with this....let me know what others think of this....thanks Kell
j
I vote Yes .
John - very nice. Can you ID things when you know what they are? Is that a jelly fish?
I took up snorkeling on a holiday in Tahiti - before I knew how to swim. Absolutely mesmerizing. I could wax poetic about it. :-)
Try Newcastle Brown Ale. Not as heavy as Guinness (my other fav), but plenty of flavor, especially if it's not to cold. We have to send back chilled glasses all the time here.

kaperc ,
In England they drink hot beer ??
Go figure .
that's because they have LUCAS Refridgerators...LOL!!!!
I am a mechanic by profession and Lucas wiring...well....sometimes you drink warm beer...no offense mate....I prefer my Guiness cold!!!!...
Everything that I will post as far as underwater images...I can assure you I know what it is....I may not know my plants yet but the things I shoot u/w I do know.....if not, I find out....there are forums for that kind of thing too!!!!
Thanks for the interest folks....to be continued I hope!!!
j
Ginger, did you say a Mustang sells for $70,000 down there? That is crazy!!! A fully loaded one sells for around $23,000 here.
John, please keep posting underwater pictures!! I love seeing them!!
Oh, pooh, the beer is NOT hot in England, or Ireland for that matter. It's a nice cool temperature and the Guinness is heavenly. We keep ours in the outside pantry here, except for summer, when it goes in the fridge. If I lived where you do, I would probably want chilled glasses!
Look forward to the u/w pics.
Wow. That area looks great!!!
That really is pretty, Kell! I just planted my first agapanthus-several varieties. Yours look pretty tall, so that's nice.
What's the purple shrub on the other side?
Tropicanna ,
Not sure of it's name .
I'll find out tomorrow .
We call them ( jokingly ) Aganickers ?
I would love to see your u/w pics! I think starting a new thread here in the tropical forum would be a great place for it. But then I am new around here and don't know all the rules either... :) I am sure Mom will ad a few of my Dad's pics, I will ad a few above water island pics once in a while, but I don't have an u/w camera (yet) !
Got one for sale!!! Your mom will kill you!!
j
Many years ago (eek! it's been 46!) my late brother built himself a case for a camera so he could take pictures underwater. Clever clogs, he was always doing something like that. In those days there was no such thing as an u/w camera for amateurs and he was working for Delta Airlines with lots of opportunities to travel. He camped on the beach in the Bahamas, as I recall, and fell in love with the water. I miss his ingenuity and adventurous nature.
LOL I think my Dad has a u/w case, but I don't dive yet, just snorkle a lot. not as easy to do with a camera. Besides, with him around my pics snorkling are nothing compaired to the beautiful ones he gets while diving!
Ginger...is that a Chlorophytum...? The dark red leafed bush?
