You are one brave photographer! Some of those things looked like they would carry away young children!
Gardening In AUSTRALIA . Way Way South !
Glad I found this spot great pictures, neat looking plants and animals. Envy the rain though we need it terrible here. We have had fires and smoke lots of smoke worse year here. I'm in central Fl smoke is gone right now but last week and weeks before there was plenty ash on your car in the mornings. Nice to see something new thanks enjoyed it Dana
Aint skeered!!
ok, maybe a little....
john
Dana - Welcome! I wish I could send you some of my rain, but alas, it just doesn't pack well (oh gosh - pack - I GOTTA go do that!). What was all the smoke from? That is sure something I don't miss. Iived in San Diego - fires; Denver - fires; You have my sympathy for sure. Come in, sit awhile, and enjoy some fresh air. And from some of our humor I will repeat - fresh! Ha....really, welcome!
The only time I tried to go snorkeling was in Bahamas in January-It was so cold I couldn't even stand to be in the water-I am such a wimp about cold water. It looks warmer where you guys are.
Well, I don't know about john, but our water here is pretty much consistently 75 -80 degrees, that fahrenheit for sure! It's like taking a bath. When I was out Sunday and we had all the rain, it was warmer IN the water than OUT!
Now that I can handle!I guess it gets a bit cooler if you take a boat out, though. My mom bought one of those little motorboats with the inflatable bottom while she was there, and cruised around in that thing.
We were in a 6 person dive boat. There were only 5 of us, three divers and two snorkelers. I'm not crazy about the dive boats....they absolutely kill my spine anymore. And the drive back into the dock in the rain was AWFUL! The rain stung everywhere it touched it was coming down so hard! Give me a leisurely sail boat any day!!!! I love to sail - that is heaven as far as I'm concerned. But when I go out with DH, its a dive boat and only a dive boat.
My folks finally got a little motor inflatable thing (I do not know what they call it, honestly) and this summer we'll actually get to go out into Bogue Sound in it. I can't wait, I just recently started to like where I grew up, in Carteret County, NC.
Nice UW Pic Shari .
We are going to miss you while you are gone .
You could take a wireless Lap Top ?
Okay, my DH is now hooked on the spider site! Don't have a lap top, but you guys will have lots of fun without me....pout, pout. Of course, I will be having lots of fun myownself, to tell you about later. Sides, I'm such a conversation hog that you will probably find that the forum moves smoother without my constant interruptions!
Hey ginger, I'm up at that time of the day 5 days a week. Getting ready for work. lol
Love everyone's pictures!!
Hello all! The Tropical forum looks lovely! I have my internet back just in time for mom to leave... I will try to fill her shoes, but my feet are a lot bigger, and I don't know if I can post near as much as she does!
ginger- Wow your pictures are wonderful! I would have loved to be on that walk!
Now, if i have a plant I need to id, an orchid for example, should I post it here, in plant Ids, or in the orchid forum?
Nina
Hey Nina!!
Glad you are finally up and running!!! Your mom shared a link with us to some of your aquarium shots. Very Nice! I am not a member of that site and could not leave any comments on the pictures there, but now that you are here I can say I really like what you're doing with the underwater plants. Good job! Post some of them here and let the rest of the folks lurking have a look!!!
Tropicanna, the water temp here in Cayman during the summer is around 84 consistantly. Sting Ray City, and the sand bar normally get to 88 F in summer.. very shallow water, 12 feet. What's nice is the temp stays nice and warm even at maximum recreational depth, which is 130 feet, but the Cayman Islands sets max depth at 100 feet. Come on down, the water's fine...and easy to get to from Charlotte. Direct on USAirways....take about 3 hours from there to here...
aurabest,
john
Good mornin Kell,
Katie and I would love to get over there....We too would love a walkabout with you. Some fabulous photo ops there!! Both topside and underwater. We are needing a break and are thinking about a tour around that side of the planet next year. Take a month off and go for a visit....so many places to dive and we are not getting any younger....When is the best time for both top and bottom weather? Just curious as to when we should start lining up dates...as stated, sometime next year I think....Thanks in advance,
aurabest,
john
Wow-sounds like going for a dip in a hot tub-which rocks! I know I really want to go to Jamaica- I have a thing for Jamaican music, plus Jamaica is supposed to have more flora than any other island in the world. I bet it is expensive to hop over to the Caymans from there.
John, thanks for the comments on my aquarium, and I will post some pics if you like. Just so you know, I had to leave the tanks in Colorado. I sold them (as-is) when we moved out here in January. I think i have a few more pics from the pre-sale ad, they aren't on webshots. My hubby wasn't as into them as I was, and the thought of starting over was too daunting. I had thought about starting a saltwater tank here, but it would never be as pretty as Mother Natures beautiful lagoon so I snorkle instead.
Now i get to deal with critters like this crab that decided to come check out hubby's fishing pole tonight after shark fishing....
That's a big ol crab, Majik! Don't eat seafood personally but that looks like he has some meat on him!
I can't spell when I type fast...bear with me!

Great Pic. of the Blow hole John .
We have a few of them here in OZ.
The most famous one being on 'The Great Ocean Road' . Victoria .
As for the best times .
It all depends on what seasons you are after .
If it's Summer / Diving etc.
June till early Sep. is our winter .
But we don't get much of one here .
But it snows in Vic. a lot .
I suppose you have heard of 'The Great Barrier Reef ?
Diving all year round . It starts about 100 Klms. above us .
We have over 1 months worth of good Bush Walking within 50 Klms of us .
I'm going to include a lot of them on here in the future . Kell
Thanks Kell for the info....not exactly sure when it may be possible for a trip but next year some time...would like to get diving, trekking, pix of my bride hanging on for dear life on the back of your Ducati...LOL!!! Just saw something on SPEED channel about a Ducati Monster Rally...some beautiful bikes on there....yeah, the Great Barrier Reef....would love to get some white shark images.....that is the place!!!
DutchLady..by all means!! Both of you come down!! Plumerias for you, diving for him, plant advice for me!!!
We have the Queen Elizabeth Botanic Park here. It is a wonderful place to visit as there are so many things to see. I will try to post some photos from my last visit there, including some of the endangered Blue Iguana....If I could make my garden look like that or even close, I would have something!!!
Back to work for me,
john
Nice, very nice!
j
That's a neat plant! Even with the shredded leaves look.
Nice Pic. AlohaHoya
The plant is nice also .
Is it yours ?
Very nice, I love heliconias! Going to try and winter some in my GH, it looks like they need to get pretty big before they flower though!
Your Heli is beautiful Carol...I am working on a partial shade spot so I can try again with some here. We have had some good rains the past week and everything is doing well, even the leggy hibiscus seem to be perking up!!
Do you recommend partial shade for heli's? I really don't have many shady spots in the yard and the Cayman sun is HOT! I have failed once with a Heliconia and want to do it right this time!!!
Thanks for all the beauty on these pages...I hope to add some too, soon!!
Aurabest,
john
John , Words are great ,
But you can't beat the real thing: Pictures .
Thanks for your comments . Kell
my garden isn't worthy of photos yet...thats why i have only posted u/w images...maybe someday...
That's something I hope we all have lots off ' TIME '
John, those of us here in US would probably be amazed at the weeds over there!
John...actually, the heliconias do grow best, usually, in filtered sun....for us. Sexy Pink is surrounded by trees and a big timber bamboo on one side...the trees do let in a lot of light but not a whole lot of direct sun. Maybe if you grew some of the shorter ones....they also wouldn't get wind torn.
Carol
