Gardening In AUSTRALIA . Way Way South !

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Shari, you should try some heliconias there-as crazy as it is, I have some in the greenhouse here that I 'm gonna put in the ground in summer. I actually want to get the variety 'Sexy Hanger' ginger's lovely wife is showing. :)

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Hi Tropicanna ,
Welcome to the tropics ,
It's always warm here .

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Hi, Kell-funny to run into you somewhere other than the canna forum! My folks used to live where Shari does-my Dad worked on Kwajalein for several years building military housing and maintaining satellites. That's how I ended up here, cause I was interested in the happenings on Kwaj. and was keeping an eye out. Shari has been working hard on getting this forum, but stuck to her guns and I am proud for you guys. I imagine the best pics on DG are likely to come from this forum!

.........sigh...........so want to live in the Tropics............

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Well I'll try my hardest to please .
How about Back into the Pond ?

Very pretty -is that water lily?

Someone gave me a lotus at a swap and I made a little bucket container garden for it. I have a type of elephant ear that seems to like floating on top of it. Cats love to drink out of it.

West Bay, Cayman Islands(Zone 11)

Welcome Trop!! and the rest of you new to our New forum!!!

"Hot Topics in the Hot Tropics"

Always warm here in Cayman too!!!

Glad y'all are joining us!!!

aurabest,
john

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Yes that is a Lotus lilly .
The Upside down green bell like thing in the middle is the old flower .
And it is edible . Tastes Quite nice .

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Hi John! Thanks for the warm welcome! I figure if Dave and the crew were nice enough to put up this forum, I can at least give it a bit of traffic!

Must be very nice in the Caymans-you guys are in places I can only imagine going!

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Wow, so that is a lotus! Now I know what I am looking forward to! I need to look up the name of mine-something hard to pronounce-lol

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Here's another Pic .

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

So pretty-the centers look like sprinkler-or shower heads!

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Mine is called Nelumbo 'Chawan Basu'.

Do your's smell like anything? I guess you'd have to be in the water to tell, right?

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Not much scent .
They wilt within the hour if cut off .
So no good for cut flowers .

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

They grow easier than I thought can't wait to see my flowers. One of these days I'll get some new pics up.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

How was your week end ?
Free of Out Laws ?

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

I spent most of the weekend in the yard--far awway from all the uptightness. FIL is actually somewhat interested in the garden. He always makes a point to ask what the most exotic new thing I have is. He like to think all the tropicals actually come directly from some beautiful place-and a lot of stuff I've gotten from trading, so I say, "Well , that actually came from Texas"-and he's still entertained. This weekend is free of outlaws thank goodness though.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Good for you .
How are the Drums Going ?????

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

They are great! We love them! We need to get some stuff cleared out of our studio room so you can walk around them-DD really likes them-the symbols are great! We have so many drums that we can actually play together.

Today we are getting a new roof-so there's plenty of drumming to go around.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Here is my last Lotus lily Pic .
Please enjoy .
I'll be eating them later .

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

I'll have to try the edible parts-DD kinda likes flowers on her plate-even if she doesn't eat them :)

So things like water lettuce and water celery-can you eat those, too?

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Water celery We sure can .
I will take a Pic. today so you can see what ours looks like .
It's 1.14 am here at the mo . So Pics. when sun rises .

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Gosh, Kell, are you up like that all the time? I have sleep problems myself-but most nights I am in bed by 1:00am. Have a shot of Capt. and get some shut-eye!

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

I slept between 7pm and midnight last night after dinner .
5 Hours is enough .

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Yes sir, I'll leave you alone about the insomnia. Are you always hyper, too?

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

I send a lot of my Latest Pics. to all parts of the world .
Bugs , Insects , Moty Boiks , Cars , Flowers , & Clouds .
I think I'll start a Cloud Thread here later today .
Cloud Pics. are so cool . We all have them you know .

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

We have many clouds today-along with all the clanging and stuff coming off all the shelves from the roof!

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

You could just have waited for a twister .
It would have taken your roof in less than a minute ???

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Seemed like it didn't take long to get the roof off, and they seem to be getting it on quickly. But they are leaving quite a mess in the yard and I am trying not to freak out cause I'm sure they will clean it up right?

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

The twister would have put it in your neighbours yard .
No mess Charlie .

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

I've never even seen a tornado-they are very rare here in this art of the country. But growing up at the beach we'd see water spouts all the time-they were really cool looking! Of course I would not want to be in the middle of one.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Dorothy was , and look what fun she had .

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

Good Morning all! Kell, LOVED the pic of your lawn mower! Those feet waving in the air gave me a real wake-up giggle! I adore the water lillies, but that is one plant we are not allowed to grow here. No open water of any kind. The "powers-that-be" would just come destroy it....I've seen them do it. Such a shame. So I will be enjoying the ones posted here. I have one of those recycling fountains, it is constantly in motion, and they didn't even want me to keep that! Kell, I know the roo's can be/are a problem in many parts of Oz (I hope you don't mind me calling it that - if so, just tell me), do you have a problem with them - or are they just the occasional cute pic?

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

We just love it when they visit .
30 years in this place and never one bit of damage .
You see they only eat Grass .
They don't touch flowers .
And they have very good manners .
Thanks Shari .

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

They certainly are well mannered! This little guy was so sweet - he just waited in the background till I had fed his mates, then came up to get his goody....I'm glad you have no problems.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

That one looks like it is hung over .
Blood shot eyes from to much alcohol ,lol

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

OMG!!lol

Rio Rico, AZ(Zone 8a)

So THAT's why they were all so calm and well behaved! Kell - you have crushed my love affair with the roos! (sorry for the red-eye, flashes and all that). Check out this creepy crawly....this guy is as big around as my hand! Took the pic cuz DH was just about to lean on this tree while watching me play with the roos - something made him turn his head and lo! here's this guy!

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Yes it was .
