I want to introduce my friend....

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

land_steward, who has finally decided to join DG because the love of plants and desire to have more information at his fingertips finally overwhelmed him LOL

I am delighted to have him here because we worked together and I was afraid we might lose touch. So everybody behave ;0)

You DO have a friend - another bet lost ;( Is your friend a tree?

Welcome land steward!

Al

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Welcome LS. But yes - where in the photo is he hiding? No need to be shy. Laying in the bushes??

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

This is a great place, LS - the people are terrific. If you are a newbie, there is even a special club you can join - we are in the process of designing certificates and membership cards which entitle you to not much - except the good advice of other much better informed DG members :-)

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Welcome LS!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

I think he's the flag. I salute you sir!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Maybe he's gram's alter ego?

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Can you say imaginary friend?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Well we did encourage at least three personalities. We now know one of gram's.

(Zone 4a)

I am not so sure....I see some type of white bag in the background! Grampapa - what did you do to your friend? Hope that isn't a body bag LOL

Welcome to the board!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Gram, Does this friend have a sense of humor?..we hope...

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!

Is someone peeking out the window?

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Name one person in this group who is going to behave? LOL (That means laugh out loud - they send code messages around here and I'm no expert) Anyway, welcome to the Northeast (is this forum I'm on, I forgot??) forum. Grammyphoeb - I'm the other grammy here!!

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Welcome LS! You will enjoy the friendly people here and the great ideas and conversations for sure.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Notice we have not only not heard from LS, but we've not heard from gram!! Same person?? My theory lives on.

(Zone 4a)

Hmmm creepy - you could be onto something Victor.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Maybe they've both been squabbled!

Sanford, MI(Zone 5a)

Maybe shes been out in the sun to long again??Happens you know.
Gloria

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Maybe it's really Land Stewart Little! Too small for us to see in the pic.

grammypheobe got us stumped - who can name one that can behave?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Naming is easy. Actually behaving is a different story.

Sanford, MI(Zone 5a)

Come say hi to this crazy bunch. Tell us about yourself - what kind of plants do you have, what's your favorite, what part of the country are you from, what zone, are you into container gardening, photography, perennials - that type of thing?? Everyone has lots of gardening experience and knowledge (except me - I'm just here for the entertainment and company, but I'm learning by osmosis) When there's nothing exciting in the gardening world to talk or complain about this group at Northeast Forum will make up their own topics!! If you can't understand what anyone is taking about just go to another thread with lots of photos and enjoy them - that's what I do!! Have fun and enjoy and learn.

Wilkes Barre, PA(Zone 6a)

he must be from the Land Of The Lost! LOL!! Welcome L_S!!

Oviedo, FL(Zone 9b)

gram, I am happy to welcome land steward but I really want to ask you, is that actual sunshine in your picture? We haven't had much around here for quite a while so I am not sure I would recognize it anymore. I need some since I went bananas at plant sales this past weekend {In the pouring rain, land, to show how crazy we really are!} and I hope to get these things in this week and have them grow a little. but I need sunshine for that. The only thing that has flourished is my lettuce garden in containers. They loved it.

OK, ok, settle down. I may be retiring, but land_steward still works for a living. in fact, I left most of my work for him. so give the guy a break! he probably started reading this thread and asked for his money back :-)~

Seandor, what does it mean to be squabbled? I may have been and don't know it.

the pic is of the river birch in my front yard. l_s was thinking of getting one. that's why I posted it.

here's one from my retirement party yesterday. cake is in Buffalo Sabres colors. so sad...they're out of the playoffs.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Are you officially retired now? Congrats and good luck.

Sanford, MI(Zone 5a)

congrats and I hope you get to do all the things you ever wan'ted and diden't
Gloria

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

gram, I believe these are the same Sabres that eliminated my Rangers?? You'll understand why I'm shedding no tears.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Victor, that would be them. I really have no interest in hockey at all, but Buffalo is a sports town.

My last 'official' work day is tomorrow, but I've been on vacation the last couple of weeks, so it won't be very dramatic. I turned in my keys, pager, etc. yesterday because I'm not going back.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

WHAT???? no interest in hockey? That's heresy!

DH and I are rooting for the Ottawa Senators:-)

And we don't like the Ducks 'cause they elminated Vancouver Canucks (my home town).

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm not much into hockey either. Rarely watch it.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

After watching American coverage of hockey, I can understand why you rarely watch it.

It is a very different experience in Canada, where the play-by-play is much more detailed, and the "colour commentary" much more insightful.

Tonight Anaheim is playing Detroit, and the play by play is much more like what you would experience in Canada - but much of the time it is really quite poor. Also, the commentators are rather biased in terms of favouring one team over the other, while there is a greater expectation that the coverage of hockey should be more neutral.

Also, there have been a lot of rule changes to accomodate the American market - stuff like eliminating tie games (why do this?)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

The fighting is ridiculous. It's mind-boggling that it's still allowed. There is no other sport like it. You can have a complete career and get paid ridiculous sums just by being a goon. Olympic style hockey is much more enjoyable. And I say all this as a boxing fan.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

I absolutely agree with you, Victor. I much prefer Olympic hockey or European hockey.

Why is it allowed? It sells tickets. If fans stayed away, and networks ceased to show hockey until the fighting stopped - guess what, the fighting would stop!

Men are perfectly capable of restraining themselves. I am a big fan of men, and generally, I think they are not given credit for having the ability to refrain from violence and aggression. - IMHO a real man likes Mr. Rogers and is not afraid to admit it :-)

A REAL man is a gentlemen - not a lout.
