This is maybe "NOT blooming for me today" because last night the deer came round and loped the heads off my daylilies in the front yard. They did the same last year so I may have to wait yet another year to find out what type they are (were a gift). My fault for not taking precautions but the deer hadn't been round for quite a while. I didn't realize they were waiting for prime harvesting time. :-(
I think the deer are eating my lilies this year...something is...I have may beautiful lilies that have their tops chomped off....I haven't seen them...but I know they are there!! It is a shame, we had the frost and now the darn deer!!! LOL
oh no the deer must be hungry. i am sorry they are feasting on yalls beautiful daylilies : (
janet i love that indian giver!!!
OHHHH, I have a mama deer who has had a wonderful feast on my daylilies and some of my hostas. I even caught her the other night right in front of the house... and this was after I had put blood meal, bone meal, and hot pepper sauce on them...now it is raining so, sigh,,, guess the plants will grow bigger if they aren't putting growth into the blooms... and yes, that Indian Giver is "one" of my favorites.. along with this old one 'Daytime World' would love to trade later in the summer...
There is a daylily festival in Augusta this weekend. http://chronicle.augusta.com/stories/060107/gar_130530.shtml Yesterday showcased the members offerings with awards. Made me realize with so many varieties (and many similar) I have little hope of identifying the names of the ones in my garden. Today 4 daylily gardens are open for tour.
Here's Nosferatu, a daylily I got on the LA last fall. I like the dark color and nice form. Lots of my daylilies are suffering from the drought. I watered half of the fence line yesterday and will do the other half tomorrow. Poor things. DH just called me from Dallas and it is POURING there. Wish he could bring some home with him, LOL.
Thanks for the tour, Guardians.
very nice! My Texas Hibiscus is getting ready to pop too, can't wait for that one!
Thanks, ya'll. I think that the daylily without the tag may be Catherine Woodbery. Janet, this is the view from my living room window this morning. I am SO glad I planted this hib there. Please disregard the hoses strewn across the lawn. I have a splitter that I hook two hoses to the hose bib and drag them all across the lawn, since I don't have a spigot on the left side anymore.
i love that swamp hib. ! lucky you!!!!! did you grow from seed?

Janet, mine is hardy, but I always called it a regular hibiscus. I have grown the texas star from seed this year, they are about 5' tall and will bloom in a couple of days. I will compare the blooms. I think the picture of the texas ones that I bought only had about 5 thinner leaves and really looked like a star. I guess I wont know if the texas ones are hardy till next year, LOL.

These are the ones that I am growing from seed. I think.

Well, it is hardy here. I rescued mine from an elderly Lady's home in Conyers Georgia. She had no family and had to go to a nursing home, she was in her nineties. I stopped to ask what it was and her friend happened to be there (he cut the grass for her) and said he didn't know, but I was more than welcomed to dig it up and take it home, that it would please her to know someone was taking care of it and loved gardening like she did. So I have it in two spots in my yard, and I shared one with a friend. It is very striking when blooming the flowers really stand out they are so red red! LOL Here is another hardy one I grow...can't remember the name though...it has began to bloom, and I have a pink one that is as large as a dinner plate literally and it should bloom soon as well.
