Best thing/worse thing and what did you learn today?continue

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Morning All!

Wonder_down_under congrats on the new grandson! What a big boy he is already! Love the name Riley! Not very common around here. Bad EX!!!

My idea of revenge is just wait something will happen to that person eventually and you will not have to do anything. It is surprising how often I have seen that happen. That saying is so true "what goes around comes around"

Bettypauze no way do you get that kind of raise here. Most of us deserve a raise because we work so hard. I just have goldfish and I love them. Acouple of them are 8 years old. I lost a couple of my prettier ones last year. I figure Koi are to expensive and get to big for what I have.

I don't have to worry about outside cats getting the birds. None come up here or not very often.

Worse thing: Some days it is really hard because I am lucky and my life is on an even keel. Lets see maybe it was getting called to work to unload truck and I was cleaning house!

Best thing: Getting home at suppertime knowing I already had a pot of chili cooked.

What I learned: That I can be more organized if I try harder. That doesn't mean perfect but I feel like I got more done or is accomplished a better word.

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Dropping in on the run, eating lunch now. LOL

Best thing? Went shopping with Mom, bought some fun
plants, ate a good lunch at a tea room.

Worst thing? Discovered my son's school report subject
is his personal thoughts. Reading it makes me think the
kid needs counseling or an attitude adjustment!

What I've learned? That it is time to sit down with this kid
and have a very long talk.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Good evening all..hope you've enjoyed the day...

Best thing that happened to me today was my BIL let us leave the office early..as well, Noah asked if he could sleep over..it's usually Kyle but tonight Noah thought he wanted to keep grandma company...

Worst thing that happened is we went to a nice restaurant for lunch rather than a fast food chain and it took 3/4 of our lunch hour waiting to get our meal and when we did get it, we couldn't eat it...

What did I learn today???? People are very kind, I've always known that, so it's not something new new... but the more I meet and talk with people the more you see that many are just waiting for someone to offer a bit of kindness, a smile and you can see the change that comes over them...as well, those I've been talking with from DG are so genuine, caring and thoughtfull...one has to wonder the commonality is... well sometimes it's just so overwhelming...

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

best- phone call from son's geom teacher that he can get a C instead of failing as the interim warned was possible.
worst- third grade boy crying at lunchtime where I help, same kid was crying about lunch earlier this week- so sad to see him so upset at school.
learned-..........never walk thru the contruction site without a bucket for goodies. they were shredding branches and there was some very finely ground fluff on the ground to scavenge I'm sure they wuldn't bother using..

Pacifica, CA

good evening all,

wonder, congrads looking foward to dseeing a picture

best thing:didnt have to cook dinner, went out for chinese.
worst:found out whats been digging up my flower bed its a racoon
not sure if i want to take that on or not .

what i learned:our new district manager isn't the stuffed shirt we thought he was, he played the worst dirty trick on me and i believed him only to find out he was joking, i guess he has a pretty good sence of humor, my boss and i decided we'll keep him.

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

thanks for your congrats..

yes, the ex my DD father went to the hospital right on the end of visiting hours empty handed no less ( this is his ine and only grandson) stayed a couple of minutes then left. what a waste of time... only upset her....

anyways... been flat out looking after my GD will DD is in hospital. cleaning her house, cooking meals and such and catching up on her washing. i am exhausted!
she may come home tomorrow! will continue the motherly care for a couple more days to help her settle in...

best thing.. seeing my GS...
worst, having to see her upset about a no good ... well you know, of a father.... grrrr

learnt.....
pms and ex's dont mix! lol
nite nite

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Best: our son's little league baseball team won thier game holding the other team to a nail-biting 7-6 win! The other team was the best team in that county! I think the parents were more excited (and totally on edge) then the kids!

Worst: having to wait 48 MORE hours to get our new puppy! AGHHHHHH!

What I learned: that little league baseball games can cause stress!

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Worst thing:Ran out of supplies and energy yesterday afternoon.

Best thing:Got lots of gardening done in the morning!

What I learned:Make sure I have all my supplies!

lizrainey can you borrow a live trap from someone?

Ijamsville, MD(Zone 6b)

best thing: got tomato boxes specifically made for tomatoes so when it comes to harvesting nothing will get squished and I can carry a few boxes on top of each other.

worst thing: forgot some stuff on my shopping list yesterday so I have to go out again today.

learned: to appreciate the effort that goes in to digging a hole in my soil when I tried to dig some myself!

New puppy!! Do tell?

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

It's now 24.5 hours till PUPPY! We pick him up tomorrow at 2:00pm.

Here's the link with all my pics so far.

http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/713166/

I'll post pics tomorrow!!!

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I was uncommunicative for awhile, and boy did I have a lot of catching up to do here! You guys have been busy, I see.

Well, God is so good to me, and my life is all ups, it seems. No downs. I got a new camera with a good, long zoom and I can't wait till tomorrow to try it out. Also, we hired a new person at work. We are a teaching hospital and he was our student in January. He was someone we really wanted, but no positions were availabe until now, and he was still available. I'm happy. Also, the Spring weather has been rather disappointing, but we are supposed to be starting a warmer trend this weekend. Garden, here I come!

Bad thing? Hmmm. Only thing I can think of is my house is really in need of a good cleaning, and I do not want to do it. Wish I had the money to pay someone to do it for me.

Lesson...I had something that someone else wanted so I gave it to her. She was so pleased. Her reaction was better than I had expected it would be. I think I'll have to give away more things. It brings rewards to both parties.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

I like the concept of this thread because it requires me to look at the ups and downs each day.

Today's worst: I may be having gall bladder problems. Ultrasound on Monday.
Best: I have a new (by the hour) garden & housekeeper Helper coming tomorrow, just hope it works out although I can only afford occasional help.
Learned: Seedlings on the front porch in very cool nights don't germinate fast.

Pacifica, CA

hello all,

garden girl congrads looking foward to seing that cute puppy

darius, you take care of yourself let us know after the test

ves, no no one has one around here.
years ago or should i say back in the good old days (15 years ago)
you could call the humane society and they would deliver a trap and take the animal away, now they want you to pick up and deliver.

betty ,hope your doing good
wuvie i hope you got things straighted out

best thing, the boss took a half day, so all the mice did their work but after that boy did we play!!lol

worst thing: our long distance was cut off at work, had to use our cell phones.

what i learned, my cousin and my sister finally put there two year battle behind them,i didnt know how much longer i could stand being the middle man.

have a great evening liz

Victoria Harbour, ON

Good morning all..well for yesterday...

Best thing that happened...took flowers to my DH grave, bought a lovely large plant with trailling plants and a hook..after funeral visited with my deceased DH and had a great talk...says he's watching over me, and I'll make it till yet we see each other...graveyards bring such a sense of peace to me..if I'm feeling down, I'll walk through them, read names/birth & death dates etc. Guess that was my most exciting time in New Orleans each time I visited, was going through the graveyards...there MUST be something wrong with this gal..right? (LOL/LOL)

Worst thing...my little kitten (now 1 year old) so very affectionate always stays around the house..with all the workers here yesterday she played outside the entire day..usually likes inside..well, I've been up many times during the night trying to find her but no signs of her....I'm hoping that when the crew get here today that they'll find she got into their supply trailer/fell asleep and can't get out..I knocked on the unit but couldn't hear her meows...so that's upsetting for sure...

what did I learn...that feelings you think you've suppressed and dealt with come back with a range when you least expect it, but you have to take time to reflect on both sides, and see both sides and put it back into a corner of you mind..

HMMMMM

Victoria Harbour, ON

Have a few girls coming over to do the rhubbarb leaves - cement stepping stones...a gentleman gave me an electric mixer so it will be the first time I try it...sooo will be busy today but later this afternoon I'll post a 'hello' to all of you...missed you all..love reading about your day...

Hope sun is shinning in your area...if not outside, then inside!!!!

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Worse thing: It is a toss up!Too tired to enjoy the shopping trip! That's the one I choose!

Best thing:We ran into some one we have't seen in some time and had a great chat!

What did I learn: That I need to get ahold of my niece and see if she wants to earn a few extra bucks helping me with some stuff!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Best thing that happened to me today was the crew finished the roof..now the sofits/draining sections will be completed by early next week..then done..then I can start focusing on the yard and sister-in-law came and we did about 10 stepping stones and she also did a hexagon stepping stone using some of my leftover project glass..made her happy..so that will nice...makes my day when I make someone elses' day!!!

Worse thing...ooops, that new type lounger I got for mother's day..well, had it far from the fire I was burning from the debris left and well, guess it got sparked..so I may have to pick up another $129.00 so my youngest son won't realize his mom's so careless...

What did I learn today...that outdoor work is hard and I'm starting to show my age...just got back from town with my girlfriend and we picked up supper...I kept yawmning by 7:30 so she left for home...bet I'll be sleeping before 8:30..another early day tomorrow....and they call these long weekends so one can sit and relax...NOT....

Ijamsville, MD(Zone 6b)

Betty you have such a postive perspective on life, thank you for sharing those positive vibes with us!

Yesterday

Worst: Talking to my mom and hearing her plane had an emergency landing. Everyone is fine but it was scary hearing what happened.

Best: Consignment store shopping, found a really pretty floor lamp for $30 which is what I was looking for since John took all the others.

Learned: I need to poke around consignments stores more often and maybe I have some stuff they can sell!

Ijamsville, MD(Zone 6b)

Today

Best: worked our local farmer's market and had a blast!! I also got a card from my mom about my current situation that made me smile.

Worst in a sad way: John moved out today and the house is empty of a lot of furniture, one cat and a lot of memories.

Learned: I do have friends that care and I am not alone in this world.

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

For yesterday
Worse thing: Was trying to nap and the phone rang several times.

Best thing: actually most of the day! Working outside and going to work went good!

What did I learn: Can't leave DH alone and he will break his guy toys! LOL Oh that's right even if I am home he manages to break them! Good thing he has the knowledge and skill to fix them.

bluekat you are not alone. We are all here to listen and help in any way.

Bettypauze how exciting that the house is almost done! Poor Mother's day chair!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thought I'd sit for a few minutes before the day starts...because once I get all my energy going..it will be night time and betty bye's...rained most of the night and now there is just a mist..will hinder much of what I had planned so I'll have to do a change of action...had 3 more pieces of my wicker set I wanted to paint yellow but I left them outside gazebo and now they are damp..maybe tomorrow...got 4 cement tiles 16" x 16" and drilled holes and screwed gazebo to it..maybe now the wind won't move it..always worry that it will end up in pond..

Went to a garage sale and bought a beautiful chandelier with metal roses all over, will take photo..there were 5 candle lights but they didn't work, so yesterday I took candles off, purchased voltive candles inserted them and now I'll hang it over deck table and it will look pretty when it's lit...(if I don't burn deck down) lol...

Lizrainey...Has your pet racoon been back or did he/she do all the damage he could on his last trip...makes working so much more pleasant when you have good working relation with boss/employees....how nice for you, your sister and cousin..hate it when when these things happen and you get to be the between person...

Wonder..is your daughter and Kyle home from the hospital...I keep looking for those photo's....must have been difficult for your daughter dealing with all of these issues while trying to recoup...not nice..how's Leopold? p.s. better not forget DH..how's he coping..say hi for me to all...

Gardengirl1204..Congrats on the golden lab..they are beautiful dogs..son & family just got a golden lab and poodle 1/2-1/2..think they call it a 'labrapoodle' something like that..Shophie sure a a beauty...so smart..probably the lab in her...photo's please...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

cont.
Gardengirl1204..Congratulations on the team win..isn't it exciting..I try to stay away from DG's hockey games because I get over excited..end up with no voice..can hear me over the crowd...lol...
Ves522...You must be nearing the end of gardening for the spring...???So nice when you least expect it, to meet old friends...did you spend mega $$$ on your shopping? What did you end up purchasing..hope it was treats for you...

Bluekat...Amen to the digging...Every time I go out and work in gardens I end up enlarging it...then I wonder why it's so much work...Am hoping after the reno's are done and clean up complete that I'll get to do a little garden..even a few tomato plants, cucumber and yellow beans..that's about all I want..I live on sandwiches in the summer...so I should be working an area now..only area left though is quite shaded..but I'll try.. Do you sell your tomatoes???

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Bettypauze still have lots of planting to do. I'm just doing bits and pieces before I go to work. Last couple of nights have been chilly but no frost. Shopping didn't go to good. I was too tired and it was friday night. But it was the best time to go. Bought DH shoes and groceries and picked up supper.

Good luck on your vegie garden!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Nap...I envy you your camera...I've never had a top of the line, but would love one with telescopic zoon for bird photo's etc..Weather here for a long weekend was great yesterday, but it rained most of the night and today it's misty and cold/cold..was out for about 1 hr. this morning but just to wet...hopefully tomorrow will be much better..the thing with rain, it allows you indoor catch up time - right?

Lucky for you all that the individual was still unemployed..nice hiring someone you've had the opportunity to work with..that way you know if she/he will blend in with other workers...how nice of you to give something away which made another's day that little bit brighter...

Darius..how are you feeling today...bladder infections are the worse..I had major kidney operations and some bladder infections ...makes one very ill...did it take you a long time to get ultra sound??? long waiting list here...are you on meds...
Hope your new helper gives you the extra time to enjoy your day...

Well, it's drizzling so thought I might paint back of the outdoor bench insert..faded somewhat over the winter..need to go and get patio set in Midland for deck and maybe one for the grounds...try to call DS and see if he'll take me in..need the truck to do it...

So everyone, now that I've rambled..I'm off to take on the day...bye for now..enjoy the day...

Pacifica, CA

good morning all,

bluekat,
thinking of you hope your doing good

betty,
what can i say......
i spoke to a man who works in wildlife mangement
he told me that racoons were scared of snakes so i went to the toy store and got two , he said move them every day in a different direction to fool the racoon.
well its been since my last post on this all has been well no sign, betty you put the eye on me lol guess who came digging this early morning, back to square 1 lol

best thing, went to a flea market got a few things, craft paint brushes another bowling ball for a future project,

worst thing, dh daughter 20 has been down for 10 days spent 30 minutes with her dad
but has all the time in the world for all her friends before she heads back for southern calif, its killing me not to rip on her, but what am i going to solve

what i learned, i can still keep my mouth shut and keep peace

have a wonderful day liz

Victoria Harbour, ON

Liz, isn't that just the way, then she'll be calling to say how much she misses you both lol...but, you are doing well keeping the peace.....lol

Sorry for the jinx....don't know if I'd be trying out the snakes, I'm terrified of those creatures..have little mice for the cats to play with, Tuesday night Kyle spent the night and he decided he's play a trick on 'grandma'...I went to make myself a coffee and opened the door and let out a scream .....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Good evening all..well the sun just came out..spent another hours cleaning and then another digging..so, it's early to bed for me...

Best thing that happened today was friends had a wall unit they thought I might like so they dropped it off..it's for the basement but where the t.v. section is, they have to replace backing..said he'd be back next week for that part of it..gives me mega room for storage...

Worse thing ..every bone in my body aches..try to work like a man and I forget I'm a little middle aged woman - right? bet you all understand where I'm coming from...I'll be sore tomorrow..but then I'll be right back at it...and they call this a long weekend...lol

What did I learn..how to read posts, understand the type of people who post certain comments and JUST LET IT SLIDE..friends I've made on DG make up for it...you are indeed everyone of you men/women - a special kind of person..I feel honoured to be able to posts with you all..

With that note, I'm off for the night, bath time, good book by Joyce Meyer to read and good Lord willing, another day tomorrow...

Hope you've all enjoyed the weekend

Great Falls, MT(Zone 4a)

Wow! If there was ever a day for me to venture out of my norm (I usually hang around on the hoya forum), today was it! What a wonderful thread!

The Best: Finding this thread, and spending the last hour and a half reading this thread, and the previous one about the best, worst, and learned in every one's day.

The Worst: Getting insecure and emotional because DH is going out of town tomorrow for work......caused major irritation for DH, and made the rest of a really great weekend pretty rotten. My poor kids (son 10, daughter 8) got snapped at lots, due to my high-maintenance, hormonal, emotional neediness.............

What I learned: That my year subscription to Dave's Garden is good for more than just learning about hoyas (my major obsession, and fairly expensive, but innocent vice). It may provide healthy, low cost, mental health care, just when I seem to need it the most. :)

Thanks for providing such an honest, insightful way to look at my day, and help me to realize that I am not the only one who has days like mine. Sometimes it is easy to forget that it isn't all about me all the time.

Hugs,
Sara

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Worse thing yesterday: My 6 hour work day seemed like12 instead. Not that it was boring. I was working steady the whole time. That's what was weird about it!

Best thing:My water lilies survived the pretty cool night!

What did I learn:That my DH can still work circles around me!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, just about to start my day, sun is shinning and WalMart/Home Depot open at 8..need patio set and a few other gardening items..of course some plants !!!!

Sara..welcome...so glad you are joining us...we're a group of loving/caring and supportive people and we would be honoured to have you join in!! Will DH be gone from Monday thru Friday or for an extended period of time? Amen to the hormones...gardening certainly seems to bring down the stress..just walking and looking at the flowers in my yard bring me so much joy! Boy and a girl..millionaires family..how wonderful..am sure these little darlings will help you through each day until DH returns..give that hubby of yours a kiss/a hug/an I'll miss you and we'll do fine...watch him leave with a smile...then have the 'cry' lol.....
Just think, you'll have us to watch over you...

Ves522...Are your water lillies in you pond now? I have to make it to a nursery next weekend and purchase some as well as what they call 'leaf lettuce' apparently that's good plant to have as well...did you accomplish all you had hoped to yesterday? At least DH was along side of you...or it would have been a 12 hour day...

There is a lot to be said about a small yard...the work here is endless, but when I sit on back or front deck and see everything growing I smile and am proud of what I've accomplished...of course not just I, Mother Nature and the Lord...

Please enjoy your day, both of you, but take a few minutes to smell the roses...water lillies and hoyas...

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Betty I did mean water lettuce! My brain was in slow motion yet! They aren't in the pond yet. Even though they have spent a night or two outside I'm not willing to put them in the cold pond yet.

Hello Sara I agree with Betty. Send him off with a big smile and a kiss then have that cry. Hug the kids and then head for the garden.

Have to go and let the dog out. He's talking to me!

Pacifica, CA

good morning all,

welcome aboard sara,
darius, good luck with your test
ves, you have a lily,i think i put mine out way to soonim going to look for it again

betty did you find the kitty yet?
and you were right, she called to say there were issues with her other grandmother who broke her hip glad i kept quiet..

best:my cousin jim and myself kept digging up those old pic when we were little when mom use to make us wear hats at easter we kept sending them back and forth it was fun to reflect back.

worst i was so busted, dh was sleeping,i snuck out to another garage sale when i got back with my arms full i snuck back in only to find the stare," now what did you get"

i learned:i've lost my talent for being sneaky
but i can still make a decent meatloaf dinner

have a wonder full day liz

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

For Saturday:

Best: we picked up our new puppy - Murphy

Worst: The anticipation & anxiety before getting him

What I learned: That it's been 14 yrs since we had a puppy and I'm getting OLD! LOLOL

Here's me and our Murphy

Thumbnail by Gardengirl1204
Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

For Sunday:

Best: new puppy

Worst: no sleep

Learned: sleep is good

Thumbnail by Gardengirl1204
Victoria Harbour, ON

Gardengirl1204...oh so adorable...now this new puppy must have a name...correct? Guess it's just in the training stage that you'll find it overtaxing..but what a joy...

My son's goldendoole "Sohpie" was guaranteed 95% not shed, but she is shedding somewhat..but they'll not return her...lol.....looks similar to yours but curly hair...

Have a great day with puppy...

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

Yes, his name is Murphy. I've been posting and writing so many emails that I forgot to write that!

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Best thing?
Hubby began digging our new pond. It's a biggun.

Worst thing? No recourse for buying crappy seeds on Ebay.

What I've learned? Ebay feedback should really include
customer service ratings. I sent a nice letter, the seller sent back a note
basically telling me 'tough cookie'. Why do we feel so bad when we
leave negative feedback? The seeds were no good. Period. Yet
if I leave a factual feedback rating, it will come back to haunt me.

When the seller takes on a negative attitude in response to a
customer message, they are in the wrong business. Had the response
been polite, I could have chalked it up to an experience. The 'too bad,
so sad, it's all your fault' doesn't cut it well with me.

There is a way to block bidders on Ebay, but is there a way to remind
ourselves never to bid on a particular seller's items?

I'll just sit back and watch karma at work. :-)

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

wuv what type of seeds? Don't ya just hate jerks?

Best thing for this weekend (I'm gonna lump)We went to the movies to see Shrek III

Worst thing ...didn't have one. It was a great weekend.

What I learned is that no matter how I stack it I don't like Brown Rice.

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Ara, so as not to bring attention to the seller, who would
no doubt bite back, I'll just say they were, in the real world,
weeds. Now tell me how these things are nasty invasives
all over, yet they won't grow with the best lighting, soil and
such?

I crushed several and found them to be yucky inside, all
dried and hard, not viable at all. The seller shot back that
I didn't read the instructions, blah, blah, blah. Uh, yeah, I
read your instructions, but that doesn't change the fact that
you sold seeds which were not viable. They were old.

Tricky to germinate, fine. Sporadic, sure. But just plain dead
and hopeless is not something one needs a degree to see.

When people have a hard time, I try to help them figure out what
could have gone wrong. I can't imagine telling them to bite the
big one. Okay, so that was a figure of speech, but it may as well
be what I received.

Great customer service, eh?

Auburn, AL(Zone 8a)

shame how some on ebay are...I've never sold but I do buy and had one or two sellers that I thought needed to find a different line of work. LOL I've even had a lady try to buy back something several years after she sold it.
