April snow storms bring May flowers!

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

We have many lilacs along one of the farm's walls. My dad moved here in 1940 and he believes they were here already so I don't know the variety. This one is a purple flowered lilac

and this one stands about 20-25' tall with white flowers. This shot isn't very good. I'll try to get a better one when the sun moves around.

As I was finally getting around to weeding a small flower bed I found this pansy volunteer from last year.

Pretty! My lilacs are just reaching six feet this spring.

Ron, my yellow lilac, is still a baby - not quite 2.5 feet tall. I think it will be a few years yet before I see flowers.

I know I already shared pictures of my tulips, but they're just so pretty. My house is on the corner of a busy side street. Drivers have to slow down for the stop sign. Do they take the opportunity to glance at my beautiful tulips? NO!! The stink-pots. My friends and family live too far away. I'll have to just torture you all here with my treasure.

First one, Black Hero.

Oh, I forgot to compliment you on your new J Maple Victor. Beautiful! I love that fothergilla too.

I don't know what this one's called. I lost the tag.

Is kissing permitted on DG??

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Not on the first post, Victor.

Harper - beautiful photos and fantastic color harmonies.

What about pollination on the third??

Victor, it depends on who's kissing who. If the kissers are from the plant world, then it's okay.

Thanks Pirl. They make me so happy.

I don't know what this one is. It's the tallest of the group. I bought orange favorite, but that one's supposed to be a parrot type. I don't have any parrot type orange tulips. I think they sent me the wrong one. Still, I don't mind. It's lovely.

Absolutely stunning and the color harmonies even Pamela Harper would applaud!

Victor! Pollination only with permission of the hybridizer.

last, but not least, here's the whole batch.

Thanks Pirl!!!! What a compliment! I just threw a bunch in there that offered my favorite colors. ...sigh.... I'm in Heaven.

Wait. Who's Pamela Harper?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

She wrote the book, Color Echoes. The premise is that by combining colors you bring out the very best in each flower. I love her theory and her books - she's my favorite gardening author. You can buy the book, used, now for about $10.00.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I'm on it! Thanks for the tip! Wish I had her advice since the beginning.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I don't like the color of her book.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Very pretty Harper! Great photos too. Tulips are great, aren't they?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Harper, no deer??

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Victor - haven't you heard of the real product, "Not Tonight Deer"?

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

I've heard it a lot. Just didn't know it was a product.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Uh oh! Has Victor infected you with his virus?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Dave has multiple afflictions, it seems.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I don't want to curse myself, but no, I don't have deer. I do have rabbits, though. I (gulp) don't know why they don't eat the tulips. When I remember, I spray garlic oil on them. It's such a horrible smell, maybe it's working.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

What!? You're surprised I quipped?!
Pirl, when you get a good idea does your miner hat light up?

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Dave, you're very funny. I'm not surprised.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Thanks Harper!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I was using garlic on my plants. Seemed to help keep some animals away, but it attracted Italians.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

He he he. Not this garlic Victor. It smells like death and feces all rolled into one.
