We've been to many of those Butterfly places and it's so humid it's hard to concentrate when taking pictures. The one you did get is glorious.
Yeah, beautiful!!!!
Try the Darwin tulips. They come in all solid colors and are known in the trade as "Perennial Tulips". Dutch Gardens has a glorious free catalog, excellent service and good prices.
my favoite tulips are the peony type. Too bad for me, they hardly come back at all.
Mine, too. It was gorgeous for one spring, then two, then nothing.
I've become a Darwin & species tulip guy myself. I planted 50 or 100 gorgeous purple peony types. the next year I had 10, then 6...
Too bad the Darwin's aren't the most exciting. I've used Brent & Becky's and Van Engelen in Bantam, CT. The later is less reliable than B&B but some good prices.
The gardening guy I listen to on radio was the director of the Queens Botanical Gardens for 25 years and they planted 300,000 tulips. When the display was over the tulips were all dug up and put in the compost. He doesn't advise using them for big displays as they "are not reliably hardy".
Al, you Jacob's ladder is lovely.
What a lovely gardening hat, but not nearly as lovely as that precious little girl. Just adorable! :)
Thank you daiseycat...I think so too!!
What a smile! How adorable!
pixie - she is so cute. What a joy to your life she must be!
who's the pixie here? I think the little one for sure! don't let her grow up ;0)
oh she is gorgeous!!!! I love the hat... what a great smile...
I wanted to cry about the silly tulips... I planted with so much love... now my sister Karla will do it... it's her favorite flower... so I am getting her some...
rain is on it's way... the sky is pretty dark right now!!!!
Thanks for the compliments everyone......she's a bit of a ham! Just turned 3 and is already a handful!!
Gram... those tulips are gorgeous!! She does make a cute little pixie doesn't she?? She even has that "imp" look in her eyes.
Al, thats a beautiful shade of pink! Name?
I think that one is Orchid Lights. Part of the Northern Lights series.
Beautiful photo and plant, Al.
Beautiful photo Al. I bet those flowers are gorgeous in a mass.
I have to tell the bad news. I am now going on Round 3 with sowing Queen Sophia. The first flat tipped as I was picking it up and there I was with half filled pots - no germination. Then Round 2 the raccoons decided to check out what was in there - dirt all over sidewalk, no Sophies. Next, I'm sowing directly into the garden and darn it, I hope I get them this time! Good grief. Such hassle for a few marigolds. But I must have them.
Oh, on the Darwins - the Van Engelen website identifies Darwins as the most likely to return year after year. Just read that the other day.
Andrea - I'll have more azaleas coming soon, although they took a beating from the neighbors snow and I moved them this spring. You know you seem to be your worst enemy with a lot of plants now don't you.
I don't see this shrub around any - it's a cutleaf lilac - more of a foliage plant than heavy flowerer.
Interesting. Looks closer to Russian Sage than lilac.
Al, Syringa laciniata is one of my favorites. At Highland Park in Rochester NY, they have some that are about 10' X 10'. Magnificent.
Well - with about 2 /12 feet of depth there I can't quite do that, but it does put on steady growth. It would be nice to see.
Al, I was familiar with the plant, but it's nice to see one. very pretty. does it have the lilac scent?
They're pretty Al!
