Having moved from New York (and Connecticut..and Massachusetts), I'm not saying I envy the climate of those who live up north. But how grand it must be to still have tulips! The latest pictures are just beautiful.

I'm enjoying everyone's pictures so much! I suppose that soon they will all be done and no new pics until next year. Right now I still have a few. Here is the old standby Angelique.

And Diana. These still look good today and they've been going two weeks! Can't tell it was windy today, can you?

Thumbnail by McGlory

Elegant Lady is still going, and should have blooms through the end of the week I would expect. I like big masses of the same thing obviously. Pay no attention to my nasty yard - it will be gone in a few years anyway.

Great pictures, all.

Dating back a bit:
Pardalinum:
'Valery Gergiev' and 'Fabio' are not often seen in the US, indeed.
I, too love the fringed fellows.
I'm afraid, though, that this plant of yours, dashing and amazing as it is, loks like it has teh famous Tulip Breaking Virus:

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

If anyone is interested in getting Fabio/Valery Gergiev, they are available from Roozengaarde:

I'll chuck that tulip. I've already removed a few in the front yard that opened virused.

Denver, CO

Thanks for that link. The internet sure does change the way we garden, eh?

It is so hard to destroy those virused ones, don't you agree? They are simply stunning. And as much as breeders claim to have made look-alike and better forms than what the virus does, I'm not conviced, as a person can still distinguish between the two... Which, I suppose, is a good thing!

Upon request, the blooms of 'Fire of Love.'
Rather non-descript, but that is excusable in light of the leaves.

Hocus Pocus is still going strong, over 2 weeks now.

The petals are as long as my hand, which is at least 6" so the open flower will be a foot across as you can see with my hand behind it.

Wide open Temple's Favorite still going too, not as big but a good size and they are both lightly scented.

Some of my Tulips this week. Lots more coming including Fire of Love that JamesCo posted above. I do love the foliage. I will post another batch later today. The sun has come back out. Patti

bbrookrd-- another great collage! YOur garden must be really in peak bulb bloom now!

I am enjoying all these tulip pics, everyone!

Denver, CO

Yes, and those are just the early ones, I can't imagein what she has later.

Great tulips, and great collage!

Is the top left ‘Pirand?’
Second row: (Tarda/dasystemmon) but who are #2 and #3? ‘Juan’?
Third row: who are #1 and #3? (Middle is ‘P. Irene, right?)

I like that third row, #1. Lovely white.

DH and I were inspired by all you bulb-a-hollics last spring and planted 2500 bulbs in the fall. JamesCo is correct that we have lots to go, but for the last few days I have been in Vt, so I am missing some of the show. We are heading back tomorrow. I needed a tree fix. We have a few tulips up here, too.

I am not sure El Cid is correct as it is more yellow than as bought as "vivid red with yellow edges that mature to rich royal purple with the same golden edges". I love the wavy leaf form on Kolpakowski's tulip and I adore the nodding little white one, turkestanica. Pinocchio has been great. Strong and long blooms that look as nice closed as open. Juan was our first to open and survived some horrible weather. I think JamesCo would win a tulip bingo contest, hands down. Patti

Orange Breeze are my first single-flowering (besides species) tulips to bloom. I'm a bit of a double-flowering fan. These smell divine; tulipy-orange.

I've taken a lot of photos today and posted them in the plant files. Most of my tulips haven't bloomed yet - I'll be sure to post when they do!

Hey Katlian et al,
You're unknown specied tulip is a Tarda Tulip (Tulipa Tarda). It's also in the Plantfiles! Mine are blooming too.

Brilliant shots, Red. I especially like the first, showing off the golden bases. Awesome.

Tulip bingo.. Ha ha- remember that idea when it's winter and we're all indoors suffering from lack of gardening.

I am also vastly dissappointed in 'El Cid.' Your specimen looks better than mine did, you must have had cooler weather. To use mild language, it sucks. I really hate it. If anyone can appreciate it as a colour-changer (when I call it "nasty-faded"), I'd be happy to send them to such a person as soon as the foliage ripens.

Opened like so:

'Twas really nice at first, before it truly opened.

I only just thought to consolodate the pictures (like Brook in VT) so as not to clutter the thread, my apologies.
And it aged to this quite quickly. I just don't fancy it at all.

Another disappointment, but this one may correct itself next year. 'Golden Artist' is a bit short for my tastes, which I can forgive, but the petal edges strated to go old and dry rather soon. It could have been weather. The first day they opened, they were:

Brook, you encourage me to try kolpowskyiana and turkestanica. The only new species I tried this year was linifolia, and I was impressed. Indeed- fine red leaf edges, and very wide, showy flowers. It was like a miniature 'Temple of Beauty'.

(The square bricks are twelve inches wide, for reference)

Actually, a generous DG trader sent me another "species"-
T. clusiana 'Tinka.'
Another nice one, it is paler than T. clusiana chrysantha, but much more robust.

The delightfully bizarre viridiflora: T. 'Omnyacc'

Look at the mutated stamen, er pseudo-stamen. It almost looks like there are more than they shoudl be, but they all went female.
I guess that makes this tulip uniquely female!?

Kenton, I don't mind "nasty faded", LOL! But, I am such a fan of broken colors. I LOVE T.linifolia- my very favorite species last year. Our horrid week of 20 degree weather in April ruined them this year. I find the shade of coral-red particularly beautiful. T. turkestanica is a lovely one I think you'll love; wildflowery and graceful with so many blooms per stem!

Red, some real beauties you've got there!

Ok, here's a better pic!

JamesCO, I love that mutant tulip - it looks 'cuddly' in side!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

JamesCo. I love the T. clusiana 'Tinka and T. 'Omnyacc'. I planted the latter, but it has not opened yet. I came home to a lot of new tulips and narcissus (some had opened before I left on Thursday but they are still looking fine. Many still to come. Tulip Bingo time. Patti

Red, aboslutely gorgous, I like the first shot. What is the white?

Oooh, good ones. I'll be interested to compare out 'Omnyacc.'

My bingo Guesscard:

Annelinde, Casa Grande or Princess Charmante, Orange Greenland, Queen of Sheba, (blank)

Red, beautiful tulips and gorgeous grouping in that pic with the red doubles! Your use of primary colors with lots of white is very effective.

Patti, so many beauties! Loving the show :)

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

JamesCo, you are good, very good. And some of the pictures are not very reflective.
These are what were planted except for row 3 last one which is a renegade bulb.
But I would love to know if some are wrong. Thanks, Patti
