Hey, let's see those tulips!

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Connie I remember those hanging baskets full of tulip bulbs! Great show of colour!

Lots of lovely tulips everyone, Katlian yours do look like species, they grow naturally in mediterranean areas such as Turkey, often in rocky outcrops, so they won't suffer too much if a little dry but I imagine they would get water held under rocks in nature.

I love your last one, the folige has a lovely purple edge, it might help to see the outside of the petals.

My T. praestans Unicum returns..

How showy, GeorgiaJo. Yes, that one looks like Princess Irene.

Peggy,
We are neighbors. I have been to Calhoun & Beech Grove many times. So good to meet you. Those grandbabies are something else, aren't they? I have the 3 (two grandsons and a granddaughter) and I love them to pieces.

JamesCo,
Thank you for the kind comments. The Fosteriana Pirand is my husband's favorite of all the tulips I have this year. They gave me my first bloom even before the Crocus. The blooms were fairly long-lived too.

I will try to post the pics to Plant Files within the next few days. I have several other tulip varieties that I intend to try and get a picture of tomorrow.

Thank you again,
Nana3

Southeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Have quite a few buds on others, but this is all that have bloomed so far. The tall red ones are Decora, and the short red ones are Princeps. Both are Fostoriana. The yellow ones just starting are Golden Apeldoorn.

Wallaby, each year I have to convince myself that i do not need another variegated tulip when I see your T. praestans 'Unicum' pictures.
Time for revenge!

Pardalinum, I'm pleased to see Valery Gergiev and Fabio in a US garden. You have a nice collection.
GeorgiaJo, 'Micky Mouse' is dashing. I think it is a single early type, so I suppose it will bloom sooner in future years, so savour its combination with 'Princess Irene,' that is s special treat.

Kenton, your 'fire of love' is so unique! You will definitely post pics of it when it blooms????

Did any of the heirloom daffs I sent to you last year bloom?

Oh, forgot my tulip picture: 'Show Winner'

early tulip, bloomed with white crocus.... barely overlapped, did not get a picture of the combination, but here it is with snow a couple of weeks ago.

Toxi, red and white go so well together!

K, fight fire of love with love of fire! They are both exceptionally variegated leaves! The scorching red flowers set this on fire! They start a little more orange but the colour combination is mind blowing!

Not my tulips but it was fun to see this in Holland last year.

Wallaby - does it whiten up or stay creamy? What is the name? all is love and fire has me confused!

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

watersedge, there is nothing like tulips in mass planting! What beauty!

Northeast Harbor, ME

No tulips for me, yet. This is what the front door where I work looked like today. But when we do get tulips, I'll take a picture. We planted about 40,000 last year. My boss took me and my staff to Holland; said, "See this? I want this in my yard too". So we did it.

watersedge, you must have a rich boss! What a swathe of colour!

ghia_girl, it stays the same more or less, I posted a pic further up, the reference to Fire of Love (reversing it for mine) was in answer to JamesCo's pic and comments of his tulip of that name. The name is T. praestans 'Unicum', it is a species tulip which will return every year. Sorry to confuse!

The leaves are thick and hairy on close inspection, most likely a survival technique for dry places, it holds water well!

Wallaby - Thank you. It doesn't take much to confuse me! I have to put that one on my want list!!! I think it will fit in well with the others. http://davesgarden.com/journal/ed/viewimage.php?did=26298

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

So many interesting tulips and pretty pics! Your beautiful tulip pics last year enticed me to take the plunge and buy some tulips (for my deer-ridden) garden this year. I planted them in pots to protect them and it helped a bit.

Darwin Hybrid, 'Big Chief' is coloring up today. I love it with the green still suffused through it.

We're getting a cold blast the next few nights, in the 20sF. Hope the blooms are ok; I've been surprised by what they endure many times in the past.

Here is a close-up of Fabio and Valery Gergiev. Are these rare in the US? I love the fringed tulips, especially the ones with contrasting edges.

Wow, Connie, those tulips look so yummy! You sure got some very nice ones there!

Here is a colleague of my tulips and spring flowers that I made up for my mom to send her for an Easter card.

What a neat idea, Carol. One of these days I am going to figure out how to do collages with my photo editor. Your flowers are beautiful!

Albany, OR(Zone 8a)

Thanks, Connie. It is easy with my photo program. I have Photo Suite and I love using it for things like this. Thanks for the comments.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Connie, I love Atlantis and the Rems broken color ones- those have always fascinated me. I'm waiting for 'Sorbet' to bloom- another I've always loved. Do the fringed varieties return for you?

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Neal, this is the second season for my fringed tulips so I can only say they have returned once. Most of these have put up 3 stems where last year there was one. I'll report back here again next spring on how they are doing. As I recall these were a little spendier than my other tulips but well worth it.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

That is a wonderful 2nd year display! The blooms look nice and big.
