Ooooh, nice photo,Kathleen...that does catch the colors really well. It's such a beauty, isn't it?
3rd Annual So Cal RU May 19, 07 - Part 2
Sherry, I can't tell you the days I have walked out the door and been glad I planted it right in front. It can turn your day around to see something that pretty. :-) Even when it's not blooming, I think about when it WILL be! lol
Does anyone know if Don makes an oven available? My appetizer needs to be baked and I hate to bake it at home and wind up serving it cold.
Arlene,
No, I'm sorry that there is no oven available. You'll have to do what all us other people do and bake it and serve it at room temp.
OK Thanks Donna
I am bringing two warming trays if that helps. These are the big foil ones with water and warming candles underneath. Donna needed one for her dish, so there is another if you want to use it.
I also have 3 if anyone needs one.
Oh, wonderful! Put me down for one.
Thank You!
Louise, maybe you should bring one of yours, too - if there's room in your car!
I will Dmail you if I need a warming tray also, Weegy
Ezlivin (Amy) will be coming home tomorrow and we'll decided what we are going to bring for sure. Jo
There will be room in the box of cactus for Kathleen! Is that ok?!??!?!? I'll go ahead and bring all 3 then. Yippeeeee, who's doing the countdown?!?!?
30 MORE DAYYYYYYYYYYYYYSSSSS!
Thanks Rusty! Yea!
That's good, Louise - we lost one of my favorite cacti to the freeze (I guess, because it turned to mush), so there's a few holes in the desert garden now.
:(
Oh you'll have plenty now!
Can't wait. :-)
Hi! Everybody!! My wife and I are coming if at all possible. This time I have already divided my lemon grass and now have over seven pots of lemon grass plants. I am going to attempt to root two or three cuttings from my Night-Blooming Jessamine (or Jasmine, if you please). The RU sounds like a lot of fun!!
P.S. Where do we sign up for bringing food and directions?
Thanks,
Chuck
Hi Chuck,
Now that you're coming to the RU...do you want/ need more lemon balm?
Sherry
Sherry, No, thanks! I ordered them special order at Parkview Nursery this winter and they supplied me with six plants. They are very big now and I am trying to drink lemon balm tea everyday. I may have to break down and (with my wife) make the cake recipe.
Thanks for asking,
Chuck
Well,Chuck, soon you'll have lemon balm seedlings everywhere!
That is quite all right. I already have lemon balm seedlings popping out in the oddest places. I must say that my wife and I are enamored of lemon tasting plants. We not only have lemon balm but we have lemon grass. Also, my wife has a small tree that hasn't bloomed yet that she calls lemoncito. We have had many good cups of herbal tea...and my wife has her fish with lemon flavor...LOL I am thinking that after Spring Planting, I am going to try one of the lemon balm cake recipes on Google.
These six plants mentioned above were not the first lemon balm plants that we had. We had six plants that I planted three years ago. They were beginning to lag so I replaced them with new plants. Has anyone found the same thing to be true for them?
Thanks,
Chuck
No, mine make larger stands each year and many, many seedlings which is okay since I like it for green *filler* and the finches love the seeds.
I just got back from Phoenix and it was so pretty and nice weather. I got invited to a plant trade there but couldn`t ditch dh without hurting his feelings. I talked to Marie Ortiz though and that was good for me. She wishes she could come to Temecula too.
I wish Marie could come too. I'd love to meet her.
She is a doll.
hiya Guys,
It would be nice if Marie Ortiz could make it as I'd like to find out how the Zephyranthes I sent her on this year's Zeph giveaway are growing in her gardens.
As far as oven space goes, we're sorry gang, only so much we can do. We'll also have two warming trays here for those without access.
I'm curious to find out how SoCal's and JD's garden tour went.
These last few days of very cool weather have kept the roses back from going into a full spring flush but we're headed for a long stretch of 80's + now and I'm really looking forward to the gardens actually doing some growing...lol.
Great to see that Chuck and spouse are coming!
This is really getting exciting for us as it looks like this year will be a real DG event!
best to all,
don
drdon,
The Mary Lou tour is set for May 5-6....you could still make it....I'm going just to see JD yodel!
Check the food thread, that's pretty accurate I hope! I'll add your friend Beverly Harold. Thanks.

Harold, do me a big favor if you can and it is not inconvenient. Can you bring me a sunday classified or new homes magazine from the area to the RU if you think of it. I looked all over and couldn`t find one. When we were out of town on our way home I finally saw a rack but went to the restroom, bought an energy drink and forgot to grab the darn thing. I liked Glendale, it had the closeness of town but the suburby and agricultural areas too. We stayed on Bell in Surprise, oh what a mess to travel that street. did you see the fireworks Sat. night from your home? it was spectacular.
Harold,
I am keeping tabs on who is coming. It is listed in the first post of this thread. We look forward to having Beverley come as your guest.
Donna
Hi all,
I have really good news and not bad... but not so good news.
The not so good news is that more than likely this will be our last California Round-Up, Matt and I will be moving to Columbus, Ohio this summer.
The really good news is that I have one more to add to the people who are coming to the RU list.
My daughter Laura, 4xthfun from Texas, is coming.
I'm so happy you all will get to meet her.
See you there
Matt, Dove & Laura
Woo hoo Dovey, dd's coming. No you are not moving to Ohio. I just found you again now you're leaving?!!?!!?!?
Twenty-six more days.....
Hey Dove,
That's wonderful that your DD is going to be able to attend the RU. Woo Hoo I will add her to our growing list.
Laura, it will be a pleasure to meet you. :-)
On the sad note, I'm sorry you will be leaving us, but Ohio people do grow Roses there don't they. lol Is Matt getting transferred there?
Rusty, thanks for the count down. lol
Donna
Wooohoooo..............4xthefun indeed!
I heard about this whole Ohio thing on the telephone with another DG reg........Please have Matt give me a call as we MUST make this a very special occasion. Let's see, when I met you, Hardwood was in Africa, now we've had a bit of time with him here and he's become a truly dear friend. Now your going to be snipers at Kent St?........nooooooooo says Uncle Skippy. Ohio?.....land of Jerry Springer?......you guys don't fit. Tell Uncle Scramjet that he's making a terrible mistake as he/it/they cannot send their best and brightest belong into areas of frequent acid rains, burning rivers, and really, really weird football fans.....lol.
We need to talk,
don
Your choice of words and your wit is so admirable Don! Hey irises????
hey I am a former Buckeye, Is that a dig at the Cleveland Browns? lol
Cleveland Browns?.........I'm a huge Brian Sipe, LeRoy Kelley, Jake Scott and Bill Nelson fan..........
Don't you remember those Browns?..........how about Ozzie Newsome?
Cleveland is a lovely town that can't figure out how to elect a president .....lol. And it's rivers catch on fire whenever a factory decides to purge its' refuse. I'm a huge fan also of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and to some minor extent, the Cleveland Indians....lol. When the river catches on fire there'll be another championship...lol. Hey, I'm from San Diego........Two world series, one game won...lol. I'm not comparing, just reminding you that no place is perfect. And Cleveland is less than perfect...lol.
Now top that.......It was politically correct, physically accurate and not even close to being as silly as as an expat-cum-Californian defending a place that people would rather leave than stay.....lol.
best to all who come from places other than where they actually live......
don
