Don, you sent me rain lilies last year (thanks!), and the only one to put up a bloom was pink! (It popped up while my brother's kids were visiting, and they thought it was magical.) I tucked them in on the south side of a boulder by the patio, hoping that would create a micro zone 7 for them. With a little luck, maybe I'll see some white ones this year! :-)

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

Thanks so much drdon..I got my bulbs their nice & healthy looking too!!!:o)))

Drdon
Would you mind confirming that you received my envelope? You stated you were allowing 14 days, and then giving others a chance ... so I'm getting antsy since you're not posting who you've received SASBE from. :) Sorry ... I'm just excited and don't want to miss out!

hiya IO1,

I am indeed in receipt of your envelope and have sent your stuff out in today's post. I normally wait until I have a few to mail at one time. I sent out several today and those of you who are worrying, please keep an eye out for the mailman.

Critterologist!!!

So great to see you. I'm surprised that you got some pinks last year, but that IS a bonus indeed. You got some I've been incubating for a while. The pink ones were collected as seed in a National Park outside Mexico City growing near the white ones back in 2003-4. I'm so glad you got some of the pinks and they bloomed for you. I'm sure the whites will give you a show this year.

best,
don.

Thanks Don! Just wanted to be sure! Wasn't rushing * you * LOL ... just wanted to be sure I was in the pot ya know. Thanks again for your kindness. Will let you know when my bulb gets here.
Hugs&blessings to you and your wife!

Hi drdon. I guess I am one of the worriers too. I sent mine a week ago. Did you get it?

Not rushing you, just need some reassurance. LOL

Talk about nervous, that's me. I'm a worrier too.

About how long do the rain lilies stay in bloom, DrDon?
Anita

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Mine bloom on and off all year.

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

Thank you, Janet. I thought they bloomed like the
crocus or daffodils and then died back. This is wonderful
news indeed.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Mahnot,
Did you know why they are called "rain lilies"? You forgot to water them (here in Indiana where it's cold and they grow in pots) or they dry out (there in Texas where it's dry in summer) and as soon as they get some water, they pop into bloom that same day or maybe the day after. Put them close enough to the spigot or watering can so you can supplement the water they get from the sky and they'll bloom more for you. Not more bloom exactly, but the whole pot (in my case) will burst into bloom if they dry out some and then you water.

PLUS, if you know you'll have visitors, you can time the flowering with the use of water. I forget the timing exactly, because it's been decades since I've grown them, but I do know they do best in places where they can dry out sometimes between waterings.

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

I have them in ground and in pots..and that is true..they will pop up after a dry spell just from gettin a nice soaking!

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

Thank you, Suzy. I didn't know that, but I'll be sure
to remember it.

Anita

Oh thank you ... I'm going to put mine in a GREAT big container!

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

Sent out my envelope this weekend-hopefully not too late, sorry for the delay-work took over the better portion of my brain lately!

Thanks again!

Hanson, KY(Zone 6a)

drdon,
Just curious if my envelope has arrived yet. It has been a week or so since it was mailed.
I have been searching your posts but don't see where you mention receiving it unless I have overlooked it.

Hi drdon, the bulbs arrived today in great shape. I'm heading out to pot them up this evening! Thanks again so much. I have wanted these plants since the first time I saw them in a Southern Living. Elizabeth

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Hey, Dr. Don! Thanks for the bulbs -- they came today in greatshape -- as if you lived down the street instead of the other end of the country!

Thanks so much for these -- I'm off to pot them up right now.

DrDon, thank you so very much. Your wonderful bulbs arrived
this evening (I get very late mail delivery, 6 PM sometimes)
and I'm off in the morning to buy potting soil for the 2 large indigo
glazed pots that will host your beauties near my daughter's
patio doors. I won't tell her their wonderful secret, how they bloom
after a good soaking. I'll let it be a surprise. She's in a wheelchair
and has very few surprises in her life.

Thank you for your kindness.
Anita

Nevada, TX(Zone 8a)

DrDon,
Received the rain lilies with yesterday's mail, planted them in the garden as soon as they arrived!
Thank you so much for your generosity!

(Mahnot, I thought I was the only one with late mail delivery. Ours is the very last house on the route, mail usually between 4:30 pm to 6.00 pm.)

Lawrenceville, GA(Zone 7b)

I sent my envelope last week and am hoping I put enough postage on it :( and the p.o. isn't sending it back to me. Blaming it on the sinus meds again, I'm just braindead LOL!

Wow, these are neat. I never got bulbs with any foliage before, it's easy to see how deep to plant 'em. There's still a little snow here, I guess a pot is is their near future.

Thanks a lot!!!
