A new fun thing to look at

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Terry, good point about use of our photos. I've been contacted on several occasions, and I have never refused the use of my photos. I've even offered to send the photo by email, so as to lose the watermark and to adjust for different pixel requirements. In most cases, the requestor offers to mention Weezingreens and Dave's Garden in their publication. That's good PR for us, I think. What really gripes me is when someone uses my photos for selling seeds on E-bay or their own site, and mis-identifies the plant! I'll usually contact them and ask them to reply so that the mistake can be corrected. As Dave said, our photos are always available for download on this site, if people chose to do so. It's something serious photograpers have to consider when they add their images here.

Great idea Dave. I can't say "thank you" enough to you and Terry for a fabulous online home. I have thoroughly enjoyed DG since I joined last year. WAY TO GO, DG! :-) I think you guys are awesome. My two cents worth on the photo watermark..............please don't watermark them in anyway, the line underneath the photo makes things very clear ~ to add a watermark in any way would terribly distort beautiful pictures. :-)

I updated bloom.com this afternoon.

Thumbnails are now on the right-hand side of the big image.

Also, at the bottom there is a link to yesterday's entry.

If you don't see the changes when you go, try doing a Shift-Refresh.

Maria, today is the Gerbera daisy, yesterday was the bleeding heart which you can check out on the link at the bottom.
Hmmm, not sure if like the newer photo layout better than the previous. The thumbnails seems to squeeze and compete witht eh bigger image. JMHO

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

thanks Sie, guess I did not get the bleeding heart and I still don't

North Augusta, ON

oh I like it..I really do, nice and tidy. Is that brown edge new as well? Sets it off nicely......

I'm excited for tomorrow's bloom. I'm not giving a sneak peak this time. :)

Looks very good Dave! Ready to see tomorrow now, but we will wait. LOL!

Since I was the one who mentioned the printing of the page earlier, I feel very uncomfortable with what others may think my purpose was. When I get seeds given to me, or a plant at a swap that I am unfamilar with, I pull it up on DG print the info on it, but most don't have a picture of the plant showing on the specification pages, and I forget to elimate the comments sometime and waste a lot of paper. I thought it would be nice if there were at least one picture that was clear enough to remind me what the plant was, on PF like is on Blooms.com format. As Dave said you could always pull up a larger image of the plants, but I want the hardiness, sun exposure, etc. info and a pic on one page. I have taken and uploaded several pictures of my own and definately would not want someone to print out and sell my pictures either. But, if it is for personal informational purposes I don't feel it crosses the line.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Sheila, none of the concerns I mentioned involved DG members printing out photos to admire or use for their files. I'm sorry I made you feel uncomfortable -- not at all my intent.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

No problem critter, I just wanted to assure you and others of MY purpose. It crosses all of our minds at one time or another as to what other people might be doing with our images. But the best we can do is utilize the copyright feature Dave has provided.
I am trying my best to put my photos in my journal now, but I have only started a month ago and have a long way to go. But up until now, I have a stack of printouts with names and notes written all over them, not a good system. LOL!

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

love this new site Dave!!

Dave, can you make DG calendar with these wonderful flower pics you have?????/ this is something that is easy to mail and i am sure we would all love to give them as gifts and have a couple of them ourselves, what do you think, a project for next year???

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

Oh, Dave - March 3's picture is GORGEOUS - such crisp detail - THANKS!

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Yes, just beeeeeautiful!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Wowza! I have a struggling 2 year old V. caracalla... going to try up-potting it and see if that helps... it bloomed its first year from seed, but I only got to sniff the first bloom before we left on vacation! Still, that one sniff was enough to make me a huge fan of this plant, not to mention that the blooms are indeed beeeeeautiful!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

Wish we had scratch and sniff screens ;) Mmmmmmmmm, just the thought of that smell :)

Love it! And .... oh, wouldn't a Calendar be wonderful?! I would be buying them for Christmas gifts if they were available for 2008!

Thanks Dave for this addition to the site! A new lovely to view every day!

Dave, what a great thing you have done for us.....just marked 'watch thread'..............gotta love all the pics people contribute all over this site........

North Augusta, ON

I see you are still playing with the page set up.....looks good

Thanks. I have a new feature planned for bloom.com that I am going to try to finish today. I think it'll be fun. :)

dave

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

No hints about what this new feature is???? maybe a sneak peak later today????

Really enjoying the new additions, Dave. Thanks so much!!!!

Patty

I'm trying to get bloom.com to be discuss-able. I was thinking of putting a "Thread View" at the bottom, to the right of the detailed information, so we can discuss each bloom each day. I thought it would be nice and generate some lively discussion.

dave

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

cool idea . . . will be watching for it.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I love the 'discussion for the plant of the day' idea......can't wait!!!

Bloom.com is now "discussable". I hooked it into the forum system at gardens.com. Have a look and maybe someone start a discussion. :)

This morning I added PlantScout and Trading links to Bloom.com.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Now, the real fun starts with the PlantScout and Trading links to Bloom.com!!!! You are too smart with the computer, DAve!!!! Thanks, gail

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I replied to today's Blooms.com and then could not find a link to get back to that page. Only options were Gardens.com home page, back to the Blooms.com forum or adding a Watch to the forum. Even from the Gardens Home page, there wasn't a link to Blooms.com.

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

Just gets better everyday. but look at your own risk. Makes you want to purchase everyone of them. HA Thanks Dave for all the improvements. time I think it just can't get any better you top it with something. Speaking of photos though, I do wish we could edit our photo in our post. I have mistakenly posted wrong picture sometimes but can't change it. Am I missing how to do this?

Calif_Sue, when you post your message, just return to the thread and there's a link in the thread back.

best,
dave

Now if you could add maybe a temperature reading, and what sign the moon is in, throw a google search in there somewhere,it would be all the home page I'd ever need.
