CLOSED: Charlie and the Choc Factory Seed Swap

Coaling, AL(Zone 7b)

bumping so our last trader can find us to join in!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I'm almost finished! I have 3 swaps I'm in right now -- an thankfully I had enough of a single kind of seed for this one that I've never swapped before, so you folks wont have seen it, at at least from me.

Silkie, Maybe more ideas on the chocolate part of the theme are in order.... there are chocolate salpingloss that Value seed was selling, chocolate silk MG, chocolate nasturtiums, chocolate sunflowers, chocolate mint, and chocolate colored bell peppers. 'Hot chocolate' rudbeckia, the chocolate flower, chocolate soldier columbine, chocolate joe pye weed.

Chocolate is an obsession (Verbena 'Obsession Red') for some, and a passion (Passionflower) for others; some people just simply LOVE Chocolate ("Love in a Puff").

Also ingredients in chocolate: Sugar and Spice marigolds, and as you already said -- Vanilla Ice Sunflowers, Milkweed, Morning Glory 'Milky Way', Bellflower 'Milkshake' and Nasturtium 'Milkmaid'. Or you could sort of look at kinds of chocolate -- Bell Pepper 'Hershey', Azalea 'Hershey's Red'. Or COLORS of chocolate: 'DARK Knight' Sweet peas, but I bet there are a LOT of flowers with the word "dark" in their names!

Or perhaps ingredients in chocolate candy -- Chrysanthemum 'Coconut Ice'. Or NUTS -- the Grass Nut, Triteleia laxa, or the Nut-orchid, Achimenes. Or maybe just a nut -- Like Black Walnut or Hazelnut.

Well, there are a lot of ways somebody can go and it wouldn't be all that hard if you take a little artistic license.

Huggers,
Susan

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Oops, that'll teach me to read better! I made a mistake on mine and got enough treats to include in everybody's bag instead of one big one treat. So, I have been eating all your individual treats LOL!

I feel really bad, but there wouldn't have been enough postage to mail them to you, so I actaully did it for silkiechick as a favor. ROTFL!

Suzy

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Suzy, if it was Godiva, don't eat mine.LOL

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Godiva. Heart shaped. 75% off. Just licking my fingers :)) Would probably have melted on its way down to GA, anyway Cordeledawg.

I feel kinda sick.

Suzy

Reynoldsville, PA(Zone 6a)

yes susan that is correct. you cheated!! lol, just kiding that's fine dear however you guys want to do it is not a problem. i haven't went through my seeds for this yet cause i have a bunch comeing in thought would be great for the swaps.

i'm going tomarrow to get my gifts and goodies for decorateing for my 3 be's. i don't know what to do for decorateing, omg i know that sounds so bad, lol. but i'm drawing a black right this second on how to do my packets. ok you guys are all better at this than me, send me some good decorateing vibes here cause i'm craft with many things but need ideas to get me thinking.

suzy, rotfl, you are to funny. i love your spirit!

Reynoldsville, PA(Zone 6a)

forgot to add my addy is in the exchange if you need it just d-mail me. you can send the be's as you get them done if you want. just make sure you put wonka swap on the outside so i keep it seperated from everything else that comes in.
thanks,
mary

(Zone 7a)

ROFL, Suzy. At the rate we're going here, we're all going to turn into chocolate Wonkas ourselves by the time we wrap up this swap - I wonder how that would look wearing our DG t-shirts? Group portrait, anyone? lol

So, is everything supposed to be edible for #6? I fixed 6 packets of seed - all edible - but it was too boring to leave them like that, so am tucking seeds just for pretty (but Wonka-ish) in little squares inside the baggies of edibles. Hope that'll be alright.

I also went beyond what I'se s'posed to be doing. This swap just seems to be a natural place for me to bestow my seeds of the black-purple, grassy leaved Pennisetum & Ophiopogon I mentioned above - the amounts of seed will be small shared among the group, so if anyone has more seed to share of this Pennisetum, share away!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Yay!!! Ophiopogon! I love this stuff, but never knew the name of it.

I'm almost positive I have Pennisetum Purple Majesty, Blue. Can you give me until tomorrow to see how much I have? I might have enough for 5, keeping one serving for myself, just not sure.

Suzy

(Zone 7a)

That would reallty be a nice thing to do, Suzy. I divided my Pennisetum into 12 packs of 8 seeds each, leaving me with 12 seeds. So, if we put our seeds together, we can provide everyone in this swap with more respectably sized packets. Lemmesee - I could send in 7 packs of 12 seeds each, and you could possibly send in 5...???

I always poke my ophiopogon seeds into the ground in December and they appear kinda late in spring - about 80% - 90% of them will have the black leaves. It's a good idea to bag the developing seeds to protect them from errant bird beaks. I would recommend everyone to wintersow these seeds as soon as they receive them in northern states and stratify them in their refrigerators for 1 - 3 months in the south.

I realize we're supposed to be surprising each other, and most of my seeds will definitely be a surprise, but it would be a shame for anyone participating in this swap not to come away with these 2 plants in particular.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Yes, Let me d-mail you.

Suzy

Reynoldsville, PA(Zone 6a)

wow! that's really sweet of you guys, thank you for shareing. when you send your be's if you have extra things for someone else just put what it is and who it goes for so i can make sure to get it into their bubbles for the return home. that way i don't miss anyones.

today my son is 11 so i will be busy again today. right now i'm bakeing his CHOCOLATE cake, lol. yummy yummy i can't wait! i got trades to get out to if any of ya need me d-mail me cause i won't have much time to keep checking the forum.

you all are the greatest!! i can't do the choc with ya though i'm without a dave t-shirt, bummer to cause i love chocolate!!

Reynoldsville, PA(Zone 6a)

alright i went shopping finaly and got alot of cute things for this swap. i started to decorate, i finally got an idea, lol. so i'm working on my be fineally. i got all my seeds picked out for my decorated pkts, got my gift and i got my newbie goodies too. now i just got to pick out some other little things for everyone for the bonus. how is everyone comeing along?

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Well, it was hard deciding on the seeds. Suzy helped me make up my mind, though and my seeds are now on order! Thanks! Suzy. Hope they quickly arrive. How long does it take Thomson-Morgan to ship?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Dawg,

I'm not sure, but not too long. We can wait, well I can wait. LOL!

Suzy

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

You're right! We can't wait! This is such a cute swap!

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

Mine are almost ready. Picked up the gift today and have been making seed packets for the last half hour LOL!
This is a fun one, thanks Mary.

OH NO!! I forgot to buy a candy bar and I need a chocolate fix!!!! HELP! I'm going to have fits. Yikes.

Coaling, AL(Zone 7b)

I have my seeds, but am trying to come up with cute decorating ideas... My son turns two on Thursday, so I am probably going to have to put all my creative energies into a Thomas the Tank Engine birthday celebration. Maybe that will give me some great inspiration for Wonka themed packets :-)

Reynoldsville, PA(Zone 6a)

alright i'm almost done with everything. i've been making stuff all day. for my pcks i just decorated them and added candy to it. i'm not the greatest at that part but i hope ya all like them.

to make this swap a little more fun and exciteing i have made you all wonka candy bars. there cute to!inside ONE is a silkie flower ticket(sorry didn't have anything gold to do it,lol). i mixed them there is no way to tell which one it's in or who will get it. the person who recieves it will get something free from me it will tell you what but not details. you must post you got the silkie ticket on here so everyone knows who won it and d-mail me your addy so i can send you your surprize goodies!!

i'm so glad you are all haveing fun with this!!!!

Coaling, AL(Zone 7b)

How creative and fun silkie!

Reynoldsville, PA(Zone 6a)

Nice touch with the silky ticket LOL!! I love it!
Caren

Reynoldsville, PA(Zone 6a)

i just finished mine tonight. woot!! i finally made it,lol

Dublin, TX(Zone 8a)

silkie ~ I have sent my package out to you this morning............it was REALLY hard not to open & eat the goodies, first! LOL Temptation is a terrible thing and chocolate is a definite weak spot of mine!

Reynoldsville, PA(Zone 6a)

oh, i can't wait to see them!!!

lol, i know i bought extras so the kid's would leave the swap stuff alone so they were tickled with that. they were really into it that we were doing wonka, it is their favorite movie. i'm really excited to see all the creativity with this swap it will be lots of fun and full of yummies for everyone!!!

Coaling, AL(Zone 7b)

OK, I am far behind. As soon as I get through the birthday weekend with my son, I will get to decorating and get seed packets out!

Reynoldsville, PA(Zone 6a)

that's ok we will wait for everyone, not a problem. we found out someone broke into our shed and stole a bunch of things so i have been dealing with all that. tomarrow the police are comeing to investigate. so all bare with me if i am not here much for a few days till things are better.
silkie

(Zone 7a)

The louts! Too bad we haven't figured out how to domesticate Guard Arachnoids in our tool sheds. Seriously, very sorry you had this experience.

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

How awful! I hope you get everything back. They didn't get any seeds did they? We all just might have to take a trip to Mary's house and the scan the neighborhood, garden by garden, to see who the perps were.

Reynoldsville, PA(Zone 6a)

lol, i wish it was only seeds. those are in the house safe. i think the dogs scared them from the house. bad part is they whiped us out of about $2700 in trapping supplies. thank god for insurance they are comeing to investigate the break in. we took pics and such. the police filed the incident report or whatever it's called. hopefully they catch who it is. it is a least the 3rd serious time of it happening in the last 6mths within 2 towns here not counting the minor takeings of them. one of which happened to my father in law in broad daylight, right in front of his house. they even took his hanging furs and all. it has been a bad year for all of us with thefts, it's aweful. the worst part is it's not the traps missing that bothers me, it's the fact we feel violated and the kid's are really scared and so am i.

Coaling, AL(Zone 7b)

I really sympathize with the feeling of being violated. I was mugged at gunpoint years ago in an urban area I was visiting for work, and it took me a while to get over feeling skittish about going out into places I was unfamiliar. You will get to feeling normal again. I will pray for peace for you and your kids...

Dublin, TX(Zone 8a)

OH Silkie! YIKES..........I am so sorry that happened to you. Sounds like theft is a real problem in your area. Hopefully the police will be able to offer some insight to the perps and thank heavens for insurance. I can only imagine how horribly violated you must feel. You and your family are in my prayers.

lizren, that is AWFUL. That is one of my absolute worst nightmares ever - - - I can't imagine the fear it must have instilled in you.
I live in "the sticks", literally............one of those great remote places where we still leave our doors unlocked, our keys in the trucks, etc.; hearing these stories makes me thankful and grateful for my serenity I treasure here at home. I often grumble when I'm out of a basic kitchen staple and have to run to town and it takes me almost an hour (closest little store is 23 miles one way). I guess everything in life is a trade off for something else, right?
silkie, keep us posted on any news with those dreadful perps!
Belinda

Coaling, AL(Zone 7b)

Belinda, I too, now live in a rural area where it takes a while to get to the nearest store, and I have walked off and left my front door standing literally wide open for several hours. And while I do grumble about the driving distance sometimes, it is really nice to not have the hustle and bustle that I've had in previous locations!

Dublin, TX(Zone 8a)

lizren, I couldn't agree more. It is SO peaceful here. That alone is worth so much to me. :) I'm glad that you found a nice rural area that you feel safe in. You deserve that! :)

Reynoldsville, PA(Zone 6a)

wow, i'm so sorry to hear that. that is really aweful you are a very strong person to get through that. i live in town with about 8,000 people but usually the only crimes are people turning you in for things. like tatleing to the code enforcement, lol. noone saw a thing imagine the odds of that, not one of my neighbers even ones that are always home.
