My be would have been on its way before the post office closed today, but I just fell down our hill moving my wintersowing containers to our porch where they wouldn't be so bombarded by predicted "heavy" rains - I don't think I broke anything, but my mobility is hampered right now. I almost had all the packets ready to go - this won't stop me, but I'm slowed down now. DH is finishing the job of widening the vents on those containers and moving everything to the porch - I don't know what I did to deserve a DH like this - he's such an enabler when it comes to dreams.
CLOSED: Easter Seed Swap - - It's Time! :-)
Hey Belinda
If you have any lungwort seeds would you mind sending me a few? I just seen a picture of some and it is pretty, it doesn't matter which either. They are all pretty :o)
Connie
Karen, are you going to be OK? Hope you didn't hurt anything like planting fingers.
Robyn - received your BE today and thanks for sending it so soon! Great job and yes, everything is inside.....perfectly. I know it gets tough when you juggle so many envies in one day! Thanks bunches!
Karen - OMG, gf - - - are you OK?????? Are you sure nothing is broke?? Good grief. You need to relax and take care of yourself. Sounds like your DH is a dream and wouldn't mind helping you in any way. Don't worry one bit about your seeds packets........still have plenty of time. Take care of YOU first. K? Let me know how you are. :-)
Connie - I think I do have some extra lungwort seeds and would be glad to tuck some in your envie. I love them!
Belinda ☺
Lord Karen, I don't know how I missed your post, I hope you will be okay... Man I hate it when that happens. Hope all your WSing containers are okay too.
Belinda, thanks so much appreciate it :o)
Connie
Belinda, be on the lookout for my package coming your way. Oh, by the way, if any of my seed containers pop open, please close them for me before sending out. Don't worry, seeds are contained in little plastic envelops though.
I was feeling pretty bad about taking so long to get my seeds in when I fell - I was lucky, everything is working fine, just sore enough to make me watch my cotton-pickin feet grrr. Thanks for asking, Robyn, Belinda & Connie. I don't know which container got jostled - it was a milk jug tied with a twist tie and things were rearranged inside, but it looked like the top was still on top - fortunately, I only sowed fractions of seed. Most likely it was poppies - I'm like Iloquin with respect to poppies - sow 'em every spring and somehow nothing happens. But am very optimistic about this wintersowing technique getting me over obstacles - if only to pay better attention - lol
So, to use Cordeledawg's expression, am I the one "wagging the cow's tail" here? Well, guess what? The seeds were mailed today, confirmation #0307 0020 0003 8475 6733. Since the envie weighed 13 oz, they would not mail it first class, so it had to go out priority. Next time, I'm making a gift out of stickers - lol.
Welp, perhaps I went a little overboard, but I do have fun enabling others' gardening habits, and everyone got at least 10 packets from 4 categories: trades looking for a home, tropicals as a subclass to trades looking for a home, seed harvested from my garden, and unusual NARGS seed - I'm hoping everyone will be intrigued enough by NARGS or the idea of any seed exchange and participate in one of those come this fall. Seems like there's a seed exchange for almost every type of plant or individual plants. (Mostly, very tiny amounts of NARGS seed were shared since I'm trying to germinate them myself)
Corde, looks like the cow tail's all mine - I see you beat me by about 3 1/2 hours today - well, today's a good day to wear a cow's tail - everything's covered in a couple inches of ice this morning - and no one in my part of the world is moving fast today. it'll be interesting to see what this does to the wintersowed seeds that already germinated
rofl @ Karen and Nancy (cow's tail)
Well I have been busy again sowing more seeds lol and I am no where near done... DH doesn't like me using my kitchen and dining room as a GH... But until he buys me one or makes me one, it will have to do lol... It's the only rooms I have enough space in to move and store everything...
I am also looking for some easter egg plant seeds (not the egg plant kind) if anyone has some for a sasbe let me know... I thought I had some of it, but must have either sent it in one of the swaps or read the label wrong :(
Ok I am off here, break time is over got to sow some more seeds...
Connie
Connie, in our 16' x 10' kitchen, the aisles between piles of wintersowing supplies require shoe sizes much smaller than DH's or mine - fortunately, DH is skinny - bit of a trip for the cats chasing the resident mouse, though.
Karen this is the area, I do all my sowing in, (attached picture)
And it seems to never fail, when I am busy sowing dh just has to go out side (he uses the garage door to go out of, off the kitchen) both of us can't fit between the cabinets and the table. (I use this table as an island :o) He complains every time I start sowing, but hey if I had a GH, I wouldn't be using up all the space in the kitchen! right ;o) I am still working on him and hoping he gets me one SOON...
Connie,
Don't go buying any easter egg plant seeds...........the cutest little bunny rabbit I have ever seen....just told me, that you and everyone else in this swap will be receiving some seeds of the........
Easter Egg Plant or Ornamental Egg Plant, (Solanum Ovigerum) (aka: Wonder Egg Plant).
Hippity hoppity Easter's on it's way!!!!
rainy~jane
Thanks Jane :o)
Man I woke up this morning to snow and it is still coming down :(
Connie
HAHAHA, that same bunny told me the very same thing!
Doesn't take long around here to get behind, does it????? WOW. You gals have been busy and I love it! ☺ Looks like lots of hippity-hoppity going on to me!!!!!
Karen, so glad to hear that you are doing ok. Those falls can be a scare and I'm glad you are ok. I'll watch for your BE, it will be here quickly at priority speed!
Connie, I love your WSing pic. Wish I could share my greenhouse with you - - - you would get wonderful use of it and DH built mine out of recyled lumber, masonite, scrap plywood and corrugated plastic.........ended up costing us around 45.00. I love it and would like to have another one since that one stays FULL all winter long. Leaves me no room to do my WSing in - - - which has to be done in my spare bedroom (turned into the growing room). lol
Nancy - - - your cow's tail sped up, didn't it????? lololol Looks to me like you are on the ball, girl! I'll watch out for your BE and fix anything that needs "fixing"........those darn little things pop open terribly! ☺☺☺
patrob ~ received your BE on Saturday.........great job and I LOVE your gift. Did you make that????? What a treat someone is going to receive.........excellent job. :)
I have to tell all of you that I have been SO busy for the last three days - - - as some of you know, I raise, hatch, and sell chickens, eggs, guineas, etc....... and I sucessfully hatched my VERY first hatch on Saturday!!!!!!!!! I hatched six little precious Blue Salmon Faverolle Bantam chicks and they are the cutest things I have EVER seen!!!!! Wish that I had more due today! lol I'll snap a pic this afternoon and post for everyone........they are too cute not to share!
Wishing all of you a wonderful week!
Belinda
Just went to the mailbox and it was FULL of goodies!!!! I received Dawg, Connie, Karen and C.Hooks BE's today. Great job ladies!!!! So cute and such clever packets! Way to go!!!! :-) I loved all of them.
Belinda
Finally got around to posting you guys a pic of my newly hatched babies.......they are absolutely precious and I had to share! :-)
Welcome to: Lucky, Ditto, Pete, Repete & Max!
I can't tell you how thrilling it is to hatch your own eggs........if you haven't ever done it before, it is so much fun and certainly keeps you on your toes for 21 days!
Belinda
Such cute chicks Belinda. I have never hatched chicks from eggs but I used to buy 100 chicks every spring and raise them. it was really enjoyable. They are so adorable when they are that size. I also named my laying hens that I let free range. I can't imagine how busy hatching must be.
omg, gf too cut!! i love it, i'm a chicken nut and a hatch aholic, lol!! you'll be hooked now for sure! here is a pic of my jelena with one of our silkie chicks her name is marsh mellow, we hatched her out.
hatching is one of the best things i ever did for me and my kid's you learn sooo much from it and it is pure joy to see babies you know you brought into the world, there is nothing else like it and so educational. they also grow up more socialized and make great pets and are such a joy!! i have hatched all kinds of chicks, keets, quails and turkey. i got 3 bators a sitten here empty, lol i think i will be gong threw withdrawels now after seeing your cutties, i miss haveing babies in the house a peepin!!
silkie
Silkie, (gf) what a CUTE pic! I love it. So neat to find out that you too are a chick lover! lol Yes, they are a joy to raise and hatch. I can't believe that you have three empty bators!!!!!! I only have two bators and they are both stuffed full of eggs. I have Cuckoo Marans and Welsummers due tomorrow and then another LONG 21 day wait. :( foohy. Everyone has told me that the chicks you hatch are much more social "pet" chicks. I am facinated by that.
Hooked on hatchin' ~ lol
Belinda
I used to hatch my own too. It's a blast watching them come out of the shells. My bator konked out and I haven't got the place here to do it anymore. So the chickens will have to do it on their own out in the pen. I wonder if that stupid rooster knows what to do. He's a year old and has just now figured out how to crow. I only have a few banties and game hens. No silkies or Japs this year. boohoo. But I'll get a kick out of watching yours until the animal swap meet in June. Hopefully by then I'll have a proper place to raise some again. Too bad Gooey Louie the goose is male and has no ladies right now. Poor Christmas got eaten by a coyote.: (
Great Look'n Chicks, Silkie ;) Wonderful Pic
Robynznest, I grew up in Iowa and NW Mo. and had to look up Stoutland. Great country.
You guys are all making me homesick for farm country. It's a great way of life.
hey I'm originally from NW MO. South KC, Belton area. Where were you?
I lived in Maryville, but several of my family still live in the KC area. I really liked KC. My daughter is an archaeologist and she was there doing some digs near the zoo last year. My mom grew up there- next to a potato chip factory. Kids dream -- the workers gave them leftover packs of chips. LOL. Still love it. The area I live in now in Maine is more like the Ozarks, hilly and we live on a lake. Can't complain, but you always have a soft spot for home. I loved being there and the gardening was great. I am pretty new so I missed a lot about the regulars here on DG. Tell me what you like to do best. Cyndie
I believe I'm newer than you here. I love the Ozarks too. Ive lived over 30 years now. Grew up in KC area. Love all the DGers I've met. Love these swaps, too. OH! and I guess I have to love gardening, huh? Yep I do. I'm trying to learn how to do all different kinds of flowers. Mainly I'm going for color, hummers, smell and butterflies.
Everyone chime in here about there likes and the gardens you want or have.
(I need lots of hints) hehe
How bout you Cyndie.
Small world, huh? Yes, Cyndie - - - the country life is a WONDERFUL way of life. So calm, serene, and peaceful..............as a sit here with my windows open listening to nothing but but birds chirping in the front yard. :-)
Robyn, I'm curious as to what type of garden you are wanting to implement. Is it a sun, shade or combo area? I can tell you that my favorite garden is my sun perennial garden. It is stuffed full of purple coneflowers, rudbeckia, butterfly bush (two diff colors), lantana, cypress vines, passion flower vines, and about 35 different cannas. :-) The hummers and butterflies LOVE this garden and at any given time you can catch a cool pic of hummers and butterflies sharing the same bloom. It makes me smile thinking about it. :) If you love things that smell good, you ought to try a passion vine. They have gorgeous purple blooms that smell very similar to honeysuckle. I'll see if I have a pic from last season I can tack on for you.
How about the rest of you? What is your favorite garden? What does it have in it? Please share with Robyn and I, we would both love to hear your ideas! :-)
Hope everyone has a terrific Tuesday!
Belinda ☺
I have very little area of shade so most of mine will be sun loving perennials. I have 2 types of passion flower started. Butterfly weed, butterfly bush, Rose of sharon, Hibiscus and lilies.. That is all. I'm just starting with the beds. I have giant red and dwarf red cannas. 35 different ones Belinda, wow, I didn't know there were that many. I feel so inadequate about my gardens. Mostly have weeds growing in them. I did buy a climbing red rose, Climbing Blaze. My dining room/green house is loaded with seedlings and numerous peat pots with seeds in them. I've even spilled over into the garage with them, I have so many started. Hope I don't kill any of them before I sow them outside. I also have loads of hosta and Live 4 Evers along with Yuccas and Irises. Can't forget weeds, weeds, weeds, everywhere.
Well Robyn, sounds like you are off to a terrific start! I decided that if my plants could communicate with my weeds, maybe they would learn a thing or two about growing rates! lol Weeds, UGH. I strongly dislike them. I try to weed a garden a day (or so I try), to attempt to keep up. I started with only one garden and now have grown to 11 and counting. LOTS of work, but fun work. DH thinks I have lost my mind with ALL these plants. He won't admit it, but during the summer when they are all have their prettiest face forward, I catch him walking around looking things over VERY carefully, followed by a comment like "that red thing in the back garden sure looks nice"! LOLOL Who says men don't notice things. lololol
Best of luck on all your seeds and seedlings - - - you will be a busy gal planting all of those! Have a great day, Robyn and thanks for sharing.
Happy SPRING to ALL of you!!!!
Belinda
Hello and GM everyone (specially Belinda)
What a wonderful day. It started off horrible. Yesterday I worked a very busy 24 hr at work and got 2-3 hrs sleep. Come home and got another 3hr and by golly I feel terrific. Dont understand it guess it is this spring fever thingy.
Speaking of the DH's Mine says that I am totally crazy. However he never complains about how much I spend and yes just like Belinda's DH he does notice and I have caught him taking a walk about.....lol
Yesterday he went into my plant room and set up a overflow for my to containers of pond plants so that the water would flow and not stagnate and also help oxygenate the plants. Three weeks ago he was at an auction and bought me this 7yr old Banana Tree that I have been trying to get the owner to sell me for 7 yrs now. He called me and said how much would you wanna pay for that tree, I asked how much it was going for and he said it was already sold which at that point I knew he bid it and won. He was alittle sceptical to tell me how much. HE** I would have bid atleast $100 or more. He finally told me $35 and I said your kidding he said no...I told him he did good and he said reaaaaally. I said He** yeah you did and told him what I would have spent, he felt better......lol.......Last week he found a Canna that I wanted on Ebay and bid it and won then told me about the guys Ebay store. I told him what I would like to have and he bought everyone of them for me to the tune of $90. Yesterday called me to let me know that I received a different package in the mail that cost about $50 and he knows all of this....LOL now that is a wonderful DH.....gottta love him. However he did tell me that he would kill me if I paid $45 for 1 pond lily...lol
Belinda I used up all of that weather you sent me in just 3 days then it got down right cold again. It is only 48 degrees today. However I think you might have sent a secret package that I didnt know about because the temps are gonna rise starting tomarrow supose to be in the 70's, the rest of the week in the mid 60's. So girlfriend keep it comin until this stupid silly climate here realizes that it is supose to be up for PLANTING....lol Some of my spring bulbs are popping there little heads out of the ground. Cant wait my daffodils are usually up and beautiful at Easter.... They are all white and yellow. My neighbor loves them.
Well it is such an AWAKE day for me and my back doesnt hurt (yet) today so I must go and work on the starter pots & plants.
Miss ya all and I will be back on regularly soon.
Love ya
Beck
Well, my favorite gardening bounces back and forth between flowers and veggies. ;) I guess I like it all. I am lucky enough to have just about any type of light available, sun, part sun, full shade. But my problem is my home is a new lot partially cleared in the woods and the soil needs a lot of building up. Basically a large blank canvas, Currently, the veggies are getting most of the sun space as we build new beds and the perennials the rest. I have annuals on my deck in containers. I have a large shade strip I am slowly filling. I am also lucky enough to have woodland natives such as Trillium and Jack in the pulpit. These swaps are perfect for me since I can't resist buying every plant or seed I like if I shop. When the snow is all gone, I will share pictures of where I am putting all the great stuff I get from you all. Just about anything you send will be put to good use. I am so excited to have the Easter Bunny visit. Cyndie
Howdy to my girlfriend, Beck! So glad to hear from you and thrilled that your back is getting a bit better. Hooray for that. Your DH sounds very similar to mine in the fact that they will literally do anything in the world for us. What a treat to have. I know we are blessed. :-) Now, about that nasty weather - - - you didn't realize that I sent a second secret "sussie" (as my kids know it!) your way via my guardian garden angel and she assured me that you would be thrilled. So, all is well! Those bulbs ought to take off and spout, sending up beautiful blooms soon. I would love to see a pic of your banana tree, girl. LOVE those things. I am a tropical-aholic, its just that my DRY, Texas weather is hard on them. I sure do try hard though. lol And, about that canna - - - you know I would love to hear more details.............fill us in when you have time! It's a messy, humid, rainy day in my world today - - so I'm catching up on my ebay stuff and lots of chats!
Cyndie - having a blank canvass is the best. You have every angle of flower gardening covered with the sun/shade/both areas. What fun you will have filling up those blank spots! :) I adore seeing other gardeners pics, so share with us when you can, will you? Thanks bunches.
You ladies have a good evening, I'm off here for a while. Gotta fix DH some supper, laundry, the usual stuff and hopefully tomorrow won't be a rainy, wet day. I've got dirt diggin' fever here!!!!! lol
ttfn,
Belinda ¢¾
Wow I dont know what happened this afternoon but so much for feeling well. I was right in the middle of spring cleaning my kitchen (in time to mess it up with all the planting thingy) when all of a sudden I got deathly sick and kept trying to pass out. I had to leave the polish on my countertops for hours. But 4hrs later I feel pretty good sept for the back thingy it came back with vengence. However the kitchen countertops shine like a diamond in a goats****....lol
Belinda I see you ordered you canna's early and missed out on the COOP. I am looking forward to getting all my rhyzomes and planting them this year. Unfortunately with that little miss hap with the illness this afternoon I dont get to play with my plants. Not sure I will even get the house done now.
BTW here is a few Pictures for ya 1st off is the Banana Tree DH bought. You will have to turn your head sideways, cuz if I turn the picture you loose detail. Cant wait til it warms up enough to put it outside
Beck
Neat set up Beck, very envious. Maybe Icould borrow someone's DH to build me a greenhouse.
WOW back up girl Me first......lol wish I had a greenhouse then I could have my back bedroom back....lol......but I do share....lol
Beck, how are you feeling today??????????? Sounds like maybe your back pain threw you into a system overload - - - - mine would do that often a few months ago.......the pain gets to the point of making your heart race, your bp goes sky high, you get sick at your stomach and then poof, you are on the floor, just like that. Let me know how you feel today, K? When is your follow up with doc? Keep us posted.
Thanks for the great pics!!!!!!!! Loved them! I LOVE your tropicals - - - you really do need a greenhouse, girl. Shall we start you a petition for your DH???? lol I bet that your waterfall sound is really neat............how did the pond end up????
I am going to start our Easter Swap a "Part 2", so watch for the new thread. Those of us who only have one option of connecting to the world (which is turtle speed dial up); this thread is taking FOR EVER to come up. Ggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I wish the phone company would run some DSL lines in the boonies. I mean really, do they think we don't exist out here???? If I can get the thread to pull back up, I will post a link to our part 2 for everyone........if not, please look for a thread named "Easter Seed Swap......The Rest of The Story". K? Thanks bunches to everyone!
Belinda
Okie-dokie Easter swappers..............here we are from now on:
