CLOSED: Easter Seed Swap - - It's Time! :-)

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

Belinda here is her email addy, if you would like to contact her aturner10@tampabay.rr.com

I had a lady in the last swap I did, that couldn't post, so I posted what she had and it worked out okay. You could email her and ask her if she still wants to send the seeds to you for this swap, but that is up to you.

Everybody, have a good day,

Connie

I came across this earlier and had to share with all of you. Dave is working on a new addition, sort of "a bloom a day" type of concept. Check it out: [HYPERLINK@bloom.com]; it is my understanding that he will also be adding a button at the bottom of the home page to view the new pics daily. I hope you all enjoy it!

Good Monday morning to all of you! So sorry I was away from my puter all weekend, but the weather was simply too nice, so I played outside in the dirt all weekend. Finally got a few more flowerbeds ready to go. Now only a couple more and I'll be ready for Spring! HOORAY!
I did return all my dmail to each of you this morning ~ thanks for your patience. :) I wish each of you a terrific week!

Question for all of you ladies ~ have any of you grown black bamboo or brugmansia from seed? I have tried and failed in the past and would value any tips anyone has to offer. :) Thanks a bunch!

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

brugs ( i think) are easy from seeds never tried the bamboo,i would prefure a plant unless the seeds where free lol
i have taken them out of there "shell" and they seem to germinate faster but will germinate with the "shell" but will take longer, they like to be warm to germinate i think it is like 75 degrees, ihave some coming up right now and they stay like 75-80 during the day and like 50 @ night, theyre in the gh so i hope this helps

Dublin, TX(Zone 8a)

moretz, thank you for that. I think that maybe I have kept my brugs too hot, maybe???? I had them over a heat mat and it seemed to stay 85+ when I checked it. As for the bamboo, it was indeed free; but seems impossible to start! Grrrrr. :0) I'll keep trying - - - - I simply refuse to give up!

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

texas see if you can find anything helpfull on here about the bamboo

silkie

Dublin, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey Silkie (gf) ~
I haven't received your BE yet - - - - maybe tomorrow???? I'll let you know as soon as I get it. I need to send your BE back to you early, because obviously it is going to take a while to get from Texas to PA! ☻ GGRRRR, the po. You just never know, do you!
ttfn,
Belinda

Reynoldsville, PA(Zone 6a)

it took a bit for yours to get here too but i think it was shorter. i think i sent it on the 29th, i'm glad i sent it early. hopefully tomarrow or soon. i have 2 international trades that have been weeks and still not come in yet so let's cross our fingers for the best they all make it safe and sound without crushed seeds. that would be aweful to wait so long and have something happen to them.

hey, just send our trade back with my easter be i didn't think to tell ya that before. since i'm sending yours back with my swap it will save us both on postage if that's ok with you.
lmk,
silkie

Dublin, TX(Zone 8a)

Hey Silkie ~
I'm hoping that today your BE will get here - - - good grief it is taking a terribly LONG time. I hope that it isn't lost and smushed up somewhere...........that would be the worst ever. :( About your seeds for the trade, I sent them to you on the 7th. I hated for you to wait so long to get them - - - and I didn't mind going ahead and sending them. Thanks for offering that. Hope that you have a great day and I 'll talk to you soon!
ttfn,
Belinda

Decatur, IL(Zone 5b)

So I see I missed out on the bunny hope....lol Guess my little wiskers radar wasnt working right.

Hi all and just so you all know Belinda will rub her good fortune of weather right in your nose.....lol

Guess what sweetie.....I received that package of weather you sent my way today, it was 64 degrees today whooooooohooooooo loved it. Grabbed the chaps and coat and jumped across the motorcycle today OMG it was so refreshing. Thank you love I needed that. Ofcourse we were so busy unloading all that rock for the pond that DH bought that I didnt get to enjoy it much. Told him if he bought another, just 1 more rock I was gonna kill him.

So hows the bunny hop going???? Hope everyone receives lots of goodies.

I walked the gardens today and My Tulips, Narcassus, Hyasinth, are all popping thier little bunny ears right up through the ground. :) :) :)

Hi All - Belinda has very kindly let me personalize the seeds I send in, so I've sent you all a dmail with my list - I hope you'll take a look at it and let me know if there's anything there that you would like to have. So many of us have swapped together that I'm trying to avoid anyone getting back any seeds they may have sent in. I have other seeds, and those of you who have your trade lists up with your wants may get something more interesting.

Thanks for making an allowance here, and I look forward to hearing from everyone via dmail - soon :)

Just wanted to let everyone know that List #3 is closed and that the following remain on List #2:

Althea (Rose of Sharon) - 1 trade

Ammi majus - 1 trade

Aquilegia "Purple Columbine" - 1 trade

Cynara - 1 trade - let me warn again that this has become a very invasive thistle in some places

Datura - single white - 3 trades

Heliopsis helianthoides 'Scabra' (- 3 trades (This yellow daisy is adaptable to such a wide range of conditions; it's a sun lover but does well in more shade than might be expected; very long blooming; would be pretty mixed with other yellows to set off contrasting shapes of flowers - for example, imagine this daisy with a yellow yarrow and a yellow daylily set off with misty green fennel and a white sage or bellflower. Gertrude Jekyll used to sow an early bloomer like poppies near her sunflowers and then pull the stalks over the poppies (toward the front of the border) when they went to seed later in summer - the sunflowers would bloom horizontally all along the stems at the leaf axils.)

Hi Belinda, I sent out my BE today. We had a touch of spring here today finally. I used to live in Missouri and this is the time of year I miss the wide open spaces for gardens and my chickens.
Lots of plotting going on here though for when the snow melts. ;) Thanks for doing this. This is my first "Big Swap" and I'm enjoying the excitement.
Cyndie

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

Belinda, I forgot to put on the note that I wanted confirmation when you send it back to me. Dang I knew I'd forget something rofl... You will have 2 BE coming your way. The one for this swap and the St Patty's one. I hope you get them both together ;o)

Okay gotta get. tty later,

Connie

(Zone 7a)

Just wanted to alert everyone I just updated my post of March 10, 8:37 pm.

Belinda, hope you got your dmail - the Gaillardia is yours...have been in touch with Allison but haven't heard back from her yet. I'm going ahead and making up packets for everyone whether I hear from them or not - the sooner I get these seeds off the sooner I can get out into the garden and back to wintersowing. We still have some snow remaining from little "Matterhorns" where we piled our snow shovelings, but the mice have left us one blooming snow crocus, and as far as I'm concerned, spring has finally arrived here.

Does anyone participate in other seed exchanges? I participated in the North American Rock Garden Society ( http://www.nargs.org/index.html ) for the first time, and they have a huge selection that includes many low growing plants that are great for a small garden or for edging or low carpeting or other more ordinary garden situations - not all are minute little tufts needing a morraine or scree - but you can make a rock garden in shade, and they have quite a few plants native to our Eastern woodlands (not to mention primroses!) wonderful for a shady hill (like mine). I would start studying their list now so that you can join and maybe donate some seed next fall and be ready to pounce on their 2008 list when it comes out in late December - everything's on a first-come, first-served basis.

Another one I've heard about but not participated in is the Hardy Plant Society, but I may not have the proper name here. The only one I could find was http://www.hardyplant.org/ , but they don't seem to put much, if any, emphasis on a seed exchange. Does anyone know of any other hardy plant seed exchanges?

Anyhoo, am including a small fraction of seed from some of NARGS' packets I just received to give you an idea about what they have - which is dependent on seed donations that come from all over the world. They might not appreciate a tall annual sunflower, but they did accept my seed of tall, mixed sweet william. A major contributor of seed is Panayoti Kelaidis, the director/curator of an internationally famous rock garden near Denver Colorado. In a picture of that garden I saw some years ago, people were walking through paths of blooming alpines while snow-covered mountain peaks rose in the distance. We can't all garden on a mountain top in the Rockies, but you will be surprised at the range and adaptability of seed available from NARGS.

Dublin, TX(Zone 8a)

cyndie - - - thanks for the heads up on your BE...........can't wait to peek inside! So glad you are enjoying your first big swap, I absolutely love these things! I absolutely LOVE this time of the year ~ my world is full of new things...........new plants, new blooms, new chickies, new guineas.......the list goes on and on. Too bad it doesn't stay like this!

Connie - I will add you to my confirmation list. Thanks for reminding me.......I might have forgot to ask down the road. I'll watch for both BE's to come zipping along - - - can't wait to open them! ☺☺☺

Karen, girlfriend do you ever sleep????? 4:28 am? I am an early-bird, but my goodness you definitely get the worm for that! :-) Thanks for the info on the seed exchanges, I am going to check into both of those today. Sounds like the rock one would work great around my fish pond - - - it is all rock garden out there.

Also, I received kat7 & silkie's BE's yesterday and you two BOTH did a fantastic job! :-) kat7, I have to ask..........did you make that "gift" that you sent? I peeked, and it is gorgeous.............fill me in when you have time..........I love that type of stuff! (trying not to give too much away here!)
Hope each of you has a wonderful day today..........Belinda

Reynoldsville, PA(Zone 6a)

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

The be is on it's way Belinda. You should get it in about 3 or 4 days. The mail goes to 2 or 3 different little towns before they even get to the big city to leave MO. lol

I hope I put everything in it. I had 10 different packages going out today, very confusing!! : )
