Texas Statewide Roundup April 28, 2007-TRADES

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

silverfluter........thank you. did you have black jack sedum? and what is angelita daisy? i have to look that up. prob. would like that or any other native. did you want anything besides the red hardy glads?

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Mamajack, Sorrry I don't have blackjack sedum. Angelita daisy is an incredibly tough wild flower, makes a yellow daisy and spreads very slowly. Don't think I need anything else on your list. Can't remember, things are getting a little hectic around here.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

hello DAAAAAAAAAAAAAVE!! gocha on the bulbs.

silverfluter i would like the angelita. thank you.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

I just looked at PF and I'm not sure that what I have is angelita daisy, but we can ask Josephine or somebody at the RU and find out for sure. If you don't want it, that's OK. The tag that came with it said angelita daisy.

Thanks mamajack :)

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

mamajack....the japanese wisteria are seedlings, and I have battled mites on them so they don't look too good right now. I can send seeds though if you would like, they are easy to germinate and grow quickly.

I went through my stuff last night, and I found 2 yellow milkweed seedlings for you. I don't know anything about them, that's just what the seed packet said, they were from a trade.

:) Kim

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

pat rob............i added all of those things you just asked for.

blue eyes.......never mind on jap. wisteria seedlings. but yes on the milkweed.

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks, mamajack, but I really just meant for you to pick one! I'll owe you when we do the iris trade later. :>)

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

well patrob let's smoke 'em if we got 'em. lol.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

So I am hoping our pavilion is still in one piece.....an unconfirmed report of a tornado through that exact area. A labmate of mine that lives over there said there were trees snapped, a roof displaced into another parking lot, and the middle school there had quite a bit of damage. I hope no one else had tornadoes or such.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Bad storm coming I can hear the thunder. I need to be outside working.

mamajack I can bring you some wisteria. I have plenty I am sure. will dig them for you when I can get outside. Rain never bothers me makes it cooler.

Smockette does your lady slipper live in the ground?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Be careful, Sandy! Lightning is nothing to mess around with, and if it isn't there yet, it's definitely heading your way.

From http://www.uswx.com/us/wx/tx/77024/?stn=KSGR

Quoting:
Right Now Issued 10:00am CDT -- Wed, Apr 25, 2007
A tornado watch is in effect. Through noon, a line of storms along a Matagorda to Houston to Liberty line will move east and should be along a Freeport to League City to Liberty line by noon. Rainfall rates around one and one half inches per hour will accompany these storms. The stronger storms will be over southern Matagorda, Brazoria, Galveston and Liberty counties and will be capable of gusty winds and possibly a brief isolated tornado. Over the coastal waters these storms will bring gusty west and northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Sandi, yes, it can grow in the ground. I have mine in pots but I have DEER!!!

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Please make sure to visit the head count thread I made so we can get an idea of how many people to expect: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/716231/

Also, for those coming for breakfast.....I couldn't get the back room reserved but they will be setting aside a table section for us. Tell them you are with Dave's Garden when you arrive to find the seating.

Last but not least.....who has the nametags from before or should I be making these this week?

Thanks! Kim

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Kim, I brought them last fall but I don't remember if there were any left. Maybe we could ask Marylyn?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm making nametags, so I'm glad you are getting a head count. :-) I'm going to start those tonight...

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks so much Marylyn!

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Notice for the people who wanted my irises. I think I might have iris borers. Something made the foliage do weird things and some of the leaves are hollow. If you don't want them, I'll understand.

Iola, TX(Zone 8b)

Does anyone have any of these canna's that I can get a start of?
Australia
Autumn Dragon
Bangkok
Chocolate Cherry
Herbs White
Journey's End
Princess Di
Striped Beauty

Thanks a million!!
Trishann

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Mary Lee, what weird things did your iris foliage do?

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, some of it twisted, some of the leaves got caught inside other leaves and didn't grow. And on some of them, the stalks layed down on the ground.

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Have you checked the rhizomes for rot beneath fallen stalks? Hard wind, of course, takes them down too. The twisted foliage and leaves caught inside others sound like weather-related anomalies. We've had lots of cool, cloudy, wet days. I've never seen an iris borer and don't want to. but I have been told we don't have them in Texas. Hope that's right! Maybe someone on the iris forum who has seen borers can help more than I.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Patrob, do you think I should bring these? There's no soft spots on them. I guess I'll bring them and you can look and see what you think.

I remember somebody want redbud trees. Well I found a couple, but I can't remember who wanted them and I don't have time to go through the thread and look. Things are getting really nutty around here. DD's boyfriend thinks I don't ever cook, because every time he's been here, I've been diggin' in the dirt.:)

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Go ahead and bring me some irises.....I bet they will be ok.

:) Kim

Dallas, TX

Marylee I think DBF should care more about DD cooking than yours . lol
I will take a Red Bud tree... if you dont find out who wanted it.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

OK. Anybody for redbuds?

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

You're right Sylvia.:) I wish DD would cook. Unfortunately she's just like I was at 22. The kitchen is a room that holds the refrigerator. Once in awhile she'll cook, but it's rare.

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Mary Lee, I have had all those problems with my irises from time to time and I'd bet that yours are fine. This cool, sometimes cold, spring weather has thrown mine for a loop. A lot are not going to bloom at all. The others are blooming all at once, regardless of whether they are supposed to be early, midseason, or late bloomers. Bummer. The rebloomers have done nothing this spring, so perhaps they will bloom in the fall.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

I have come to the conclusion that irises are hard to figure. I guess they are moody?:)

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Iris, goddess of the rainbow. Female, moody? Hmmmm

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Are you suggesting the irises have PMS? LOL

Meadows Place, TX(Zone 9a)

Marylyn, having been raised by a Mother and two Sisters and now with a wife, daughter and 4 female cats......you can suggest ANYTHING you want, Dear !!!!!!!!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

ROLFOL

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

I'd like a redbud. We've lost a couple of trees this year and another is on the way out. Redbuds are my favorite.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

I forgot to count those, but I's pretty sure I have atleast 2.

Iola, TX(Zone 8b)

Does anyone have a pet rabbit? I have a bag and a half of cedar shavings and a bag of Timothy hay if anyone can use it...

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Would anyone be interested in cuttings of rose Madame Antoine Marie? My bush is going nuts so I could take fresh cuttings.

Kim

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

silverflutter I would love some Iris.

smockette I would like a ladyslipper.
