Growing for pets

Gloucester, MA

Hello everybody. One of my pets is a Guinea Pig named Bob. I usualy grow grass, corn, corn husks, etc. for my guinea pig outside. When I change my parrots food I usualy thorw the old seed outside and see wha grows. I have sunflowers, Pumpkins, Corn, Many different types of grass etc. Since it is winter time in The Peoples Republic of Massachusetts and it is freezing out I decided to take some of my parrots grass seeds once again to grow Bob some fresh food. Next I am planning to grow some Dandelions , I grabbed some seeds before winter and plan to grow them soon. I have a picture of my Guinea Pig next to the grass I have growing for him. The realy tall thick one growing is corn.

What a great idea. Bob is a very lucky little Guinea Pig to have you taking such good care of him.

I read an article in a magazine once about growing annual grasses in a flat for pets. I can't remember all of what it said, but I do remember that they grew the annual grass indoors all winter long for their pets. As they would cut it off for the pets to eat, it grew back. You could also try leaf lettuces for Bob. If you have a bright window, they should do good, and Bob might enjoy them until spring gets here.

I have a pet rabbit, and we feed him pretty much all fresh veggies and greens, although he does get his slice of apple and alfalfa pellets every day too. He also really likes a little spinach now and then.

Thanks for the info. I have a lettuce growing outside for him right now. Thanks to el niņo it is still alive. I let all of my lettuce milk out and seed and I saved the seeds. I just have to find them. I should try growing that inside sometime. My guinea pig also loveds the corn husks. You should try to grow corn and feed it to your rabbit. In the summer all the parrots seed I throw outside gorws a bunch of different grasses. I take the different grasses, some clover, crab grass, lettuce, cornhusks, baby corn, the corn strings and make him a salad. I grew a crab grass that got about 3 feet in diameter spread all over the ground.

That's so nice what you are doing for him. Some years ago when my piglet was alive I had a little dog or cat harness that I would put on her to take her for "walks" in the yard so she could graze. She really enjoyed that. I realized what a mellow personality she had so I eventually gave up on the harness and let her run around in my fenced in backyard for hours at a time . She made her own hideaway cave out of the rows of day lilly leaves.

Ha ha I like the picture of your piggy. I can't wait for the summer I am going to make a 15ft x 10ft space full of clovers, crab grass, dandelions, and corn where my guinea pig can munch away all he wants. I am going to fence it off so my dumb dog will not go over there and eat it then pi*s and sh*t all over it. That is a really nice picture of your guinea pig, got any other good pictures of her?

I also have a Guinea Pig collar with a little bell, I can't find it though.
