My daffodils and irises are popping up. Azaleas are blooming in Central Park, I hear, too. I don't think we've even had a hard freeze here yet. Just so I won't worry, maybe I'll go buy a few zone 7 plants that I've been pining for.
Coffee Time 2007
Don't keep us in suspense like this, Sofonisba. What plants are you thinking about buying?
Yes, Harper, do tell. It's funny. you always think...if I was only ONE zone warmer, there are all these wonderful things......
Sheesh, so much pressure! Jasmine is one I've been really wanting. It doesn't do well indoors with me. I bought some Jasmine that supposedly zone hardy to 5 from Lazy S's Farm, we'll see how it does. It's in my garage right now looking pretty sad.
Let's see... camelias, ... I can't think right now. I'll add more to that.
All I keep thinking is that CANNOT be good. The milder weather might feel better but this really had to be affecting everything from the plants, crops, wildlife, water etc....I am a bit worried to see what our summer will be like.
Ditto
I'm with you on that one. Just saw that Al Gore movie. Scared my pants off.
Harper
Harper - hurry up and get some pants on! It's getting colder tonight and you'll freeze.
Today, I have fully grown daffs in bloom!!!
Wow, Dave. none of my bulbs have sprouted, except for the muscari and 'Rip van Winkle' daffs which always do that in the fall, but never get buds.
Oh, I have a ton sprouted. Just saw this little batch on my way out to work today.
Dave - do you have them planted in a warm, sunny spot? Enjoy them now!
Well Dave, where's the pics?? Please share, it's still very brown here, some green here and there. My hollyhocks look like they are sprouting new leaves, but no tulips or daffs.
Yes, Dave, please do share all the pictures we just know you've been taking ;0) seriously, I could really stand to see a daffodil about now. I wish one of mine had jumped the gun on spring
Come on - give us a break and a taste of spring!
Gorgeous flowers!!!!! Just beautiful....thanks. Those made me smile LOL
If you like that, you should come here and smell them. Just divine!
Harper
Harper, those are wonderful! I wish I could smell them.
Beautiful Harper!
Nice, Dave. I'm hoping ours will stay underground until April. You have alliums pushing up and I had gladiolus - about 60 of them. I planted some and I'm shipping some off to Indiana.
No Daffs here or anything else that even THOUGHT of pushing up. It -6 degrees here, so nothing will try to come out now, not even me!
We're at 28 and I'm firmly planted at the computer!
Nice flowers Dave, but I'm with Pirl. I hope mine stay in the ground until April. Well, the leaves are already pushing through... you know, I haven't checked on them in a week....
Nope. I just checked. No flowers. Just leaves: daffs and irises poking up about 2 or 3 inches. If they freeze now, will they still bloom?
Harper
It's a rare Dave(47) pic. Looks nice Dave. I'll post some of mine in 3 months - just sit quietly and wait.
Hi everyone,
I'm jumping into this thread about 5 days too late.
I've got iris showing new shoots and a forsythia looking suspiciously like it's about to pop.
My peach tree has white fuzzies on its buds but no daffs showing yet.
Harper, you can grow camilla's here???? The lovely, really fragrant kind???
LoraB.
Lora, I don't think so. They're offered just in the south. If my zone is suddenly going to get hotter, than before the Earth goes kaput from global warming, I want to get my camilla in my yard to enjoy it. I'd much rather keep Earth the way it is, though. Hey, I've got a beautiful bunch of Rhododendrons.
Harper
Harper - the flowering mechanism for bulbs should remain safe and sound beneath the soil, so if you have just leaves, as I do, the daffodils will be fine. My forsythia is looking like it's ready to bloom. I think I'll cut some branches for indoor forcing - something I've never tried but will Google.
*laughing* I didn't think so! I was hoping you had found a new, secret method for suddenly growing tropical plants in the north!
My rhodos are still babies. And I'm hoping that this warm weather doesn't ruin the buds they have on them.
Oh good. thanks Pirl. My mother used to force her forsythia all the time. I think it's easy. I have forsythia bushes, but they're just babies. I'm gonna let them have their blooms outside.
Lora, I'm hoping the same for my rhodies. Their buds are full and plentyful.
Hey, pirl and al!!! I've never visited over here, even though I'm NE. Al, since when is Wisconsin in the North East? LOL!
I've been complaining about our weather on the dahlia forum. Snow is SO important to the success of the perennials! It's January!!! Our poor trees/bulbs/plants need REST, and the water that comes with snowmelt. The reason I love it here is that the weather is always changing-- I may as well live in FL with this nonsense!
Pirl, my son is meeting up with friends at Halibut Point this afternoon. They're going to take pictures and soak in some sun! How lucky we are to live so close.
I did venture out with the hopes of re-writing names of daylilies but it was too cold and the ground does feel frozen - hurray! I thought, with the son, it would feel warmer than 32 degrees - wrong!
Jax - every other regional forum has kicked me out, this is my last hope for a home ;(
Awww, Al, why did they kick you out? BTW, I'm 3 strikes in the "naughty word" category; I am surprised that I haven't been kicked off Dave's altogether. My Mom is always asking me why I get fired and cause trouble everywhere I go (not real trouble; just a few small claims disputes, town zoning law problems; OK, real trouble.)... Maybe we should start a board for Outcasts, Rabblerousers and Misfits!!!
Actually, I once subscribed to a now defunct web site called "Pet Peeves" were everyone would vent their frustration with stupid drivers, inconsiderate shoppers, blow-hard bosses and the like. It was so good to type it out!!! Very therapeutic!!! We should have such a board and rate it "R".
What a cutie, but he looks like he could cause some trouble of his own!!!
He's not too much of a troublemaker. Kind of a begger at times - learned that from me.LOL
OMG Dave just look at those daffs!!! That would be unheard of here at this time of year. Yikes! Does this mean your daffs won't come up in the spring???
I forced forsythia last year. I hammered the ends and put them in water. They looked beautiful for several days!
