Anyone have a purple calla lily, or one called Anneke?

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

The sandi site is a bulb broker site--and unless we can outbid some really big multinational companies that's out. I contacted Pacific to see what they require for wholesale selling. Most companies, like B & B for instance, require you to provide tax number and nursery license #. We shall see what Pacific requires. Not all companies require that.

I will admit the sandi site has some excellent photo's. =)

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

I have a tax number for my occasional catering and the dog rescue stuff, and other resale dabbling (never have done plants and don't expect to, but ya never know how the worm turns)
My business is "Leave the Flea to Me." I used to sell other people's stuff on consignment, or find things they wanted.

So, we could use that to order, eh?

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Any tax free # will work, just depends on if they want a nursery license. Did you also read the detail about $30 packing charge for orders under $300 (likely not a problem) and the additional delivery charge if you don't want to go to the airport and pick them up (this may or may not be that high). I, a woman of doubt, tend to notice all those pesky small details--lol. I asked them to quote me prices to give you an idea of what they run wholesale. We shall see how they respond. But that will be tomorrow night about 5 pm before I can get back with you. I just hate it when WORK interferes with my gardening....

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

lol
It is not an easy to navigate site.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Believe it or not--its a lot easier than many I used. It just takes a lot of time to read all the information. Go to the FAQ section. That's where the "pesky" little details are buried.

Thank you for all those links on the coop thread!

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

That link has some georgious callas Princess, such dark ones too I loved it.

Southern, United States

Yeah Kathy_ann, there are some real nice ones. I wish I could find places in the US selling some of those.

4paws.....I'm just itching to hear what you found out from Pacific callas!! I hope you asked lots of good questions!!

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

princess, haven't even called yet. The sun is out and it's lovely today, so I've been working my chainsaw (it's pooped now, needs sharpening and a tune-up, I think, and I don't know how to do that) and chopping some firewood. I want to start making the beds for my glads, too.... :-) But rain is coming (it always is - we've had 36" since October) and there will be plenty of time inside.

How about if you dmail me some of the questions you'd like to have asked?
dmj has emailed them, too, so I want to not duplicate her efforts. She'll be back after work...I think.

west Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I did not hear a word from them today--I'll give them thru tomorrow since maybe they had a Monday back up over the weekend questions/orders.

This is exactly what's on the Pacific callas site.

And Peter talked a lot about that on the telephone. He said his are of premium quality, not old and spent. He said the cheaper ones were often "worn out."

I have a question for ya'll. Why is it that some have the same name such as the Picasso and Vermeer and Black Forest and Schwartzwalder? Are they each their own variety? I see differences in the pictures, but I'm confused by the name change. Anyone know?

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

They use other names for marketing in other countries, I think. Roses are really confusing when it comes to that.

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

Schwarzwalder means Black Forest in German.
Gemini is right. too.

Picasso and Vermeer looked so different, even though Pieter told me they were the same (one is white, the other, Picasso, appears yellow), that I wrote to him about it.

Southern, United States

I was wondering about the Picasso and Vermeer. I like the look of the Vermeer much better than the Picasso.

I just found this purple one. I haven't seen it anywhere. I wonder if it comes true to that color.

Captain Rivera

I don't know; the Captain series, said Pieter, is from Holland.
I like Vermeer, better, too.

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

I found one named Captain Rivra (I think the same as Capt. Rivera) on a Polish site, Captain Prado is there with some others, they don't all have names in English but there's 7 pages of pics. The pics look pale if anything but colours are still good.

oh my gosh, that captain one is plain beautiful.

Only in my dreams though

Wallaby, how hard is it for you to get special bulbs being in Europe? Are there strict restrictions on importing between European countries?

Bessemer City, NC(Zone 7b)

Wonderful site, wallaby. I don't know *how* you do it!

Funny thing, though...a search on Hippeastrum brings up zip. They're hiding under "Amaryllis belladonna".

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

princessyfs, it's not hard to get any bulbs from the rest of Europe IF someone is offering them. I have come across a couple of Dutch sites that do sell to the general public, but their range is very limited. I have found many sites that deal commercially, so frustrating, the cnb site deals commercially. Some of the catalogues here stock mostly a range of 3 or 4 varieties only. Same with garden centres, and they tend to keep it cheap.

The amount allowed before added taxes is £35 on most goods from Europe.

raydio, I searched for Z Black Star and found it, had to do a search on the site though. I'll have to look further.

Anyhow, I found Crocus here lists Black Star, available in spring but not yet to buy, at £6.95, + £5.95 for any amount of plants postage. The list shows over £8, so we shall see, I can see I will be looking for more plants to justify the postage! I was searching for it yesterday, pot luck, haven't dealt with them before, they are a large multi online concern. It seems Black Star is always sold in pots, it was a sport from Black Forest found in someone's garden.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Janet, I'm curious if you've seen ferrymead's description of how she and her husband grow calla tubers commercially. I find the technique fascinating:

Bessemer City, NC(Zone 7b)

gemini~

I enjoyed reading that technique too. Makes for really clean tubers at harvest!

R.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Exactly! And what ease of harvest!

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

I did see some of it somewhere, what a way to go! I guess we could set up special beds in our gardens, I use lots of leaf compost and they like that but sawdust certainly would make it easy for selling. It sounds like a good way to make a living, I don't think our climate is suitable though.

I have found Black Star on Walkers online here, it's the retail side of Taylor's who supply garden centres. It will be a dormant corm, £5 but it's £5 p&p and I don't want anything else, so now hoping my local Pennells have it later.
