Anyone have a purple calla lily, or one called Anneke?

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Hmmm, if anyone should want Black Star, Brent & Becky's have it! More expensive, but delicious!

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

indeed!....like dark chocolate!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

oh dear... when callas were mentioned on another thread, I thought, no, I can resist, I don't think I "need" callas in my garden... and then you all had to go and post those fabulous photos, LOL.

I'm loving the purples....

Bessemer City, NC(Zone 7b)

Don't know where on the net I got this, but....oooooh..........

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6a)

Do these callas make good deer food cause they eat everything else I plant?

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Are you looking for good dear food?????????

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

Ah, good, dear, food....That would be...chocolate?
Oh, deer food....lol
Aren't they poisonous?

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6a)

wallaby...no I'm not looking for more deer food. They stop by for supper and don't even leave a tip. I was wondering if it was worth the investment or if I was just wasting my time and money.

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Now that just might not be fair on the deers if they can't eat them!

I don't know if anyone can tell you this, but there is one way to find out, and they are cheap to use as a trial!

Chocolate aside, I think I will do a google......

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

I searched for 'zantedeschia deer food', first link was this

http://extension.oregonstate.edu/catalog/html/ec/ec1440/

It's not labelled poisonous, but it does state:

Deer sometimes will browse the plants listed and sometimes will avoid plants not listed.

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

This site states they are not their favourite food

Do deer like them with a thick dusting of scented talcum?

I know the rabbits don't.

My first guess was it was farther south, down in the banana belt area (maybe Gold Beach area- don't callas like warmer weather?). Sorry to disappoint. Has anyone clicked on the Gallery at the top and seen the pics of the fields? Scrump indeed!! They grow and ship their own bulbs, always a good thing in my book when I choose mail order sorces. I wonder if they mind intruders with cameras in their fields...

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Here are some of mine...Have no idea what their names are though..sorry...

Northeast, LA(Zone 8a)

ahh Janet Your pictures send me over the edge. How long have yours been there and how many did you plant in in each clump beginning? This would give me an idea how many I need to order of each color to make an impact. Love you house by the way.

See, I told y'all JanetS grows wonderful callas! Those are new pics to me Janet- gorgeous!

As any of you run across sources with a good variety at wholesale prices be sure to post it here. Many have'nt updated their sites for spring '07 offerings yet. Which reminds me, I should check my email and see if Pacific has gotten back with me!

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Thanks everyone, I really enjoy a lot! I have other in other beds, just can't put my mouse on those pictures. they may not be on the computer. Cindy, I really do not remember how many I planted at once, most likely quite a few, as I normally buy too many of everything and just plant them and pray...LOL...but the callas I have do come up easily from seed, and do multiply very nicely. I have several "new" ones that I put in last year and I am hoping for blooms from them this year...so we will see. Janet, I love all of the pictures you posted! Those Red are beautiful and the Cameo is one of my favorites as well!

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Flame,Green Goddess,Gem Dark Eyes, and a Black Calla are the new ones I added along with some of the really large white ones that are supposed to mulitply really well. Just found the mail where I got them....so I am anxious to see those bloom!

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

Anita, I'll make sure you know - I'll post on the glad co-op.

I'm happy to do the work, though I won't be contributing much to the buying, this time. :-)

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Janet, your pinkish ones must be Gem Dark Eyes, just imagine that in a bed mixed with Captain Prado!

http://www.pacificcallas.com/CallalilyGemDarkEyesbulbs.htm

I am drooling over those huge clumps of callas, have you left them in the ground, and do you leave your older ones in the ground?

I am working up to putting some in the ground, hopefully a place will get itself dug this year! Isn't it great to be able to plan ahead now??????

Black Star would look great with a floriferous white, or cream, or pink, or all of those!
