I wonder if Pacific Callas buy their bulbs from flowerbulbs.com

They do seem to have different varieties to flowerbulbs.com, perhaps they deal with a different supplier.
Anyone have a purple calla lily, or one called Anneke?
Yes, I leave them all in the ground! They say ignorance is bliss, well, I didn't have a clue when I planted them that they may be unable to sustain with our Winter weather, so I just planted them in the ground and they have flourished! I have very little that I baby, most of which is on my porch, and sometimes I do little babying with that! I just don't like most of it inside during the Winter months. I guess I am too lazy to garden much inside..LOL..my love of it is the fact that it is OUTSIDE...if it is INSIDE it is more like "house" work...which I am not that fond of at all...LOL
I think you are right, those do like the Gem Dark Eyes! How exciting to have a name for them. When I first started the gardens at this home, it was already HOT Summer months, and I really bought whatever I could find that was still available and just stuck it in the ground and prayed it would grow. I didn't even think to remember where it was or "if" it had a name, just trying to get something going and blooming, and I have had a lot of moving around in the seven years since. BUT I was very blessed in that I planted the Calla, Canna, Sprecklia, Amaryllis, Crinum, Iris, and Peruvian Daffodil... some of which; are supposed to be "tender", and they all did beautifully!
Neal, any new news re: prices?
Just wanted to suggest another source. I haven't ordered from them and they're only listing one calla right now, but earlier this year they had oodles. I understand their bulbs are larger and note the prices are for multiples. I would guess they could do better for a coop.

Check out this giant squill. Now that's a bulb!
http://www.easytogrowbulbs.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=676
They have'nt emailed me back yet; keeping my fingers crossed.
I keep checking easytogrowbulbs too, but they still have'nt updated their site for spring. It's likely they get their callas from one of the sources above or similar. I'd love to find a grower to buy from- direct from the source!
WOW
I'd be very interested in a co-op on Callas
That Captian Prado is awesome
What about bloomingbulb? if we were to get in the 50's range they run about $2 or so. I'll help 4paws with what ever she needs. LMK if you need me.

Robert, this has the Captain Prado pic on CNB, they have so many more new ones now but who sells them?

Oh Captain, my Captain, we who are about to drool, salute you.
I'm tempted to just get those (cameo and mango from BB) and be happy for this year. Not purple, but I do like those two a lot. 5 of each with shipping would be about $2.60 each.
:-)
There are at least two other folks willing to take on a co-op, but I'm not bowing out... I do want purple! And dramatic pinks...

I would definitely like to increase my calla selection. Do the colored ones increase as quickly as the whites? I have to dig them up each fall and replant them in the spring and it is a lot of work.
Also, do the colored ones bloom easily? It seems to me I read somewhere that they only bloom for a year or two and then peter out. (The colors are so beautiful I would buy them even if they did stop blooming after a year or two. LOL)
Oh that Captian Samos is beautiful http://www.cnb.nl/zantedeschia/english/catalogue/cultivars/011.htm
YUM!!!!
Oh, yes, Riverland, that is just divine!
So many on that site that are just gorgeous.
Makes me join in with wallaby-- "Who's selling these!?"
I have always planted my callas in huge pots. Then dig them and store them for the winter. Last year is the first year I actually knew the name of the ones I had and had markers for them. LOL Wonder why that is??? Anyway, when I stored them this year I put the tag part of the marker in with the bulb so I can know again next year. I have two or three big pots of callas that I don't know the names of course.
Any new ones I get here will be marked for sure!
I was just looking at the Anneke at AmericanMeadows. So you are telling me that it isn't really like that??? I sure do want that one, I was just about gonna order it anyway, but I would be po'd if it wasn't purple like that.
Susan
=^..^=
That CNB site has some awesome callas. I had no idea they got that dark and georgious.
I about shorted out my keyboard drooling. I must have some of those dark ones!!

9Kitty, I was about to buy it, too, but posted here first....
Buggy Crazy is selling Anneke. In her description she gives her honest experience with it growing under the conditions here in the Willamette Valley... No flim flam here...

Which, which?
I got a response this morning from Pacific!! What do ya'll think of this?
Thank you very much for your request. We are familiar with the Dave's Garden website.
In fact, we even advertised on it a few times.
We are able to provide you with one large bulk order. Best delivery time would be around April 2007 as we will have more in stock. Pricing
for a quantity of around 500-750 (10-14 colors x 50) is $1.48 each tuber. The size on the tubers is 1.5-1.75". You will have to put 3 bulbs
of this size in a 6" pot. (2 would be the low end). 1 bulb in a 5" Pot and 3-4 bulbs in a 8" pot.
We will also have the black schwarzwalder available, imported from Holland. Bulb size on this is 2" and larger and pricing is $4.24 each tuber with larger orders.
We are also trying to acquire colors like "Red Sox" , "Renoir" and other brand new colors for 2007.
I hope this information was helpful. If you need anything else, please let me know.
Thanks again for contacting us.
Regards,
Peter Rotteveel
Pacific Callas
Now I can't remember which sites said this, but a couple said gardeners are better off starting with a smaller, multi-eyed tuber than a larger one with fewer eyes, to end up with a fuller plant with more blooms. Do you guys and gals agree with this? If so, this is a good deal from Pacific. So, what's everybody think?
Neal
Is the fact that theirs seem un-named going to cause an issue?
I know how some people are .....I don't know how to say it Kindly .....obsessive about names
Sounds good to me, but how much is shipping to the first address?
Should be easy to get that number of bulbs ordered, in fact, I'd be surprised if we didn't get double that number. 1275 lilies were ordered on the glad/lily co-op and it could have been more.
Once a vendor is chosen, I want to contact the person who will be handling our order myself with questions. But, Pacific Callas isn't a grower, right? I wonder when he will know what varieties they will offer. April is perfect for me to do the sorting/packing/shipping.
Edited because my fingers are not following my brain's directions. :-)

Do we know what shipping from Pacific to host would be? Let say 15% on 750 bulbs would add about $.25 per bulb. Does that sound right? I'm interested if we stay below the $2.50 to $3.00 price range.
I'm so excited!! I've had both renoir and red sox on my wish list! I think it sounds pretty good for new and different varieties. Do they mean ordering in April or would they have the list available sooner?
Here's what they say about retail shipping charges.
The rate is determined by number of bulbs ordered as shown in the chart below.
Shipping & Handling Price per bulb
Up to 50 bulbs………….......… $8.10
50-100 bulbs......…………….....$16.20
101-150 bulbs........……………$24.30
over 150 bulbs…....................…$40.50
I guess that means it would be $40.50, if that means any amount over 150 bulbs.
I believe we can choose our varieties from this list:
http://www.callalilyshop.pacificcallas.com/allvarieties.htm
Wow, at $40.50 for 750 bulbs, that would be $.05 to $.06 a bulb - that's cheap! With most of us using a flat rate box for $8.60. That will keep the price down.
The selection looks rather limited.
I'd actually prefer Blooming Bulb's selection and pricing. http://www.bloomingbulb.com/CartBulbs.asp?Category=6&bulbs=Callas&parent=2425
If ghiagirl and I teamed up, and she placed the actual order and handled the money, and I handled the spreadsheet/distribution,
we could get an additional 10% off as this would be her first order after signing up for their newsletter.
I think we'd have to act fast, however, as some are on sale and could sell out as did some of the lilies we ordered from them.
:-)
I'd also bet, given the zealousness of this group, we'd make the 50 cut with no problem, on any of the varieties.
And now, as I look over Pacific again....they do have Black Forest and Amythest....yummmy!
I guess I misunderstood about Pacific Callas. I thought you meant they were going to add renoir and red sox as well as some other new varities and those would also be available to us when we purchased. I have most of the ones at bloomingbulb with the exception of 2 so I probably wouldn't buy any with the co op and try to get some different ones elsewhere. :(
Which two don't you have, princess?
I don't understand why Pacific's selection is limited they are a distributor for California Callas http://www.goldenstatebulb.com/pages/n_samerica.html#Anchor-UNITED-35882
http://www.goldenstatebulb.com/pages/callapics1.html
Which two don't you have, princess?
I offered Cameo and Mango from BB to the participants of my glad coop...they are not on Pacific's list, and are way cheap ($1.50 with shipping to me if we order at least 50 of each)
The red ones, I think it's majestic red and red galaxy. I got cameo and mango last year from brent and becky's.
Were they as lovely as the BB photos show?
If Pacific could get Regal that is amazing, it doesn't 'look' to be over colour enhanced.
http://www.goldenstatebulb.com/otherpages/regal.html
What they stated above is:
We will also have the black schwarzwalder available, imported from Holland. Bulb size on this is 2" and larger and pricing is $4.24 each tuber with larger orders.
We are also trying to acquire colors like "Red Sox" , "Renoir" and other brand new colors for 2007.
500-750 (10-14 colors x 50) is $1.48 each tuber
That is the reason they say waiting until April is best.
You can choose the named variety, as the numbers given for that price are a bulk order with quantities of 50 of each variety. I would assume they sell in lots of 50.
A suggestion, as they are trying to get more from Holland, could they be asked which ones they are trying to get?
Another suggestion, What a good idea it would be to get everyone here to say which their favourite ones are on the CNB site, then ask Pacific if they would consider ordering those if they can get them?
