Tam, that's a pretty nice picture! good choices
if you could only have 3 plants..........
gram, I'm with you on the spinach. I think it's from third grade, when Mrs. Wilson FORCED me to eat cooked greens. Just the thought makes me feel yucky. I'll eat raw spinach until the cows come home, though.
brig, it goes back further with me. my mother made me eat it when I was a toddler and I threw it right up on her. she never made me eat anything again!
Oh, if ONLY I could have thrown up on Mrs. Wilson!
shall i say this or not? hmmm, i peed on mrs. leimbaurer in kindergarten. i'm sure she would rather have been thrown-up on....or maybe not! LOL
At least one of us got one of them! You're the hero, tracks!
LOL, tracks, (bowing) we're not worthy, we're not worthy...
don't be silly, vomit is a close tie with pee! lol those poor teachers.
Oh, I'd never survive with JUST three plants! I would turn into a liar, and cheat .... hiding so many more plants!
I love ALL plants as long as they DON'T have thorns!
Lin
If I had to choose three it would be an iris a canna and a daylily since these three were the beginnings of my garden in '06. And especially so because they will multipy!
Deborah♥
If I can just cheat a little... how about flowering, fruiting, and vining?
Oh I like Brigidlily's idea!
The devious mind always finds a way... ;p
Lilac, Lily of the Valley, and Vinca.
I like brigidlily's answer; it covers all the essentials.
Hmmm...
I'd have a pepperwood tree for shade and year-round green;
a beefsteak or beefmaster tomato (each is a meal on it's own!);
and a Tuscan Blue Rosemary for flavor and fragrance.
How hard it is to pick 3!
it would have been hard to pick, even if i would have said ten! it really narrows down your favorites, doesn't it? lol
It's probably a good rule to use when at a nursery, so as not to get carried away.
:-)
are you saying we get carried away? LOL
noooo, not me....lol
(look how controlled I am with my co-ops!)
LOL
I hate rules. No rules for me. And I thought the rule was supposed to
be to buy at least three of EACH TYPE of plant anyway?
I think its very important to keep our nursery businesses going so I am careful
to spend lots of money at all the good & even mediocre ones. Can you imagine
life without them?
:-)
Tam
WHere I live, there are very few nurseries, so I buy a lot online.
Guess that saves me money; course, online one can shop 24/7.
Tam, got to keep the economy going, right? it's our patriotic duty to spend money on plants that generate oxygen to improve the environment.
there you go!
:-)
i believe in the nursery economy whole-heartedly-that's why i spend online (like a crazy woman) and spend locally (equally as crazy)!
Oh yes - those on-line nurseries are just as important as the local ones!
LOL
Tam
I should say a double lavender brug , not a datura but a brug, a hot pink double brug and a cherry red double brug..
A nice juicy heirloom tomato so I could save the seeds, a lantana just because I love them and a sunflower for me and the birds.
Joy
this thread has been so surprising. it's amazing to me the amount of people who picked a tomato. i never would have thought of it.
I answered so long ago I've forgotten what I said, but I want to change one to a daffodil. It's my favorite sign of spring. I know it's not the earliest, but those bright yellow flowers just say spring to me and I could use a dose of that right now. Someone in Buffalo, NY got a grant and planted thousands of bulbs along some of the public highways and I was absolutely delighted.
Thanks for starting the thread Debi!
Joy - I love your post.... true to your handle!!!
And I sure am ready for spring too. Burrrrr......
Tam
Grampapa ~ what a delight that must be to see... This one is for you. In the woods where I have the pet cemetery, I plant different perennial blooms to mark the grave sites. This morning I discovered this... For some reason the daffodils in the woods open first. The flower beds are slower but what a delight it was....
Blooms? Now? It was 3degF here this morning!!!
Tam
pod, thanks so much...my first daffodil! you have renewed my faith that spring will come.
gram
Tam ~ I am sympathetic but we have had days in the 60s - 70s. Nites touch into the 30s. The rule of thumb here is to have potatoes in the ground by Valentines day.
I have had and still have Jonquil blooms since Dec 30th. Grew up in the North so I do understand but won't apologize for the warm. Could not go back!!!!
Debi, cute!! Proof of life on our planet!
trackinsand ~ he looks a little chilled... moving slow?. What is your temp? We are warmer here this am than last nite when I went to bed. Expecting rain...
45 at the moment. we've been in the 30's at night and 50's in the day. today we will be in the 70's, the way it's supposed to be for this time of year. the outlook for the rest of the week looks good. we had frost two days in a row about a week ago, before the tornado hit. they say we are in for some more wild weather in the coming spring months due to el nino.
