My 27 year old daughter put on her Myspace that I am her hero. It blows my mind. I wish for you that great a daughter/mom thing too.

This was so Thoughtful of All of You and...So Greatly Appreciated...You Will Never Know.

I Could Not Beleive When I Opened the Mailbox Yesterday Morning...Here was a Package with Candy Canes on the Labels.
And...Oh My Goodness...If You Could Have Seen the Anticipation... to Opening the Package that was Sent...It Put a (Smile) on My Face and the Kids thought the Package was so "Awesome".
Everyone Could Not Wait to Go through the Seeds and See Everything...So at the End of Class...I Let them Have the Envelope to Go Through. Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

My seeds just arrived, and I am so pleased! Many of my wishes were filled. Thanks again for all the work you put into this swap. Now I am off to mix some seed-starting soil!

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

So far I have 22 1/2 gallon jugs ready to put my seeds in, once they drain some. I over watered a few of them. But hey, I am learning lol. Most of these containers are just for my Columbine, Oh my what have I got myself into rofl. I can hardly wait til spring comes and I can do the garden beds. I would have had all the beds ready had we not went on vacation the whole month of August, but it has been years since we have taken one... Woke up to a dusting of snow this morning and it got me in the mood to start my winter sowing, Not sure what else I am going to get to tomorrow, got a bunch more seeds to look up and find out the germination on.

You all have a fun day/nignt lol Connie

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Connie,
Today is in the 50's here and yesterday it was in the higher 70's I am so confused do I or dont I plant now? You said Columbine I also would love to start some of that. So is now good.. I am new to this type of stuff as strange as it may seem, but my husband always threw things into the ground. Now I started lastyear but what are these charts your looking at? Where do you get them? I did buy today a garden book from my son for xmas present.. He asked if we wanted on to a food store since we had bin on strike I said no I want lowes... :-) So much to read so much to learn... I am having FUN .... Really I am... :-)
Hugs,
Susan

Hello to all the precious people on this thread.

What a surprise I had today when I got a big package of seeds!!!

I had to get leaky faced (as we say on pets) to think that you guys would still send me seeds.

And what wonderful seeds they are too!!

Big hugs to everyone here, you are just too sweet for words!!

(Zone 7a)

To Connie and all you other wonderful enablers in this seed swap, a huge thank you . A treasure trove of seed arrived in our mail box today, and I am so delighted with what you shared.

Susan, our weather has been the same as yours. I think I may wait for later this month or February to start wintersowing, but theoretically, wintersowing should be okay to do during any period of time when the nights have freezing temps. I don't know if it makes any difference, but the first ones I plan to wintersow will be hardy to the coldest zones, and so forth to milder zones until I get to 4 weeks before last spring frost with hardy annuals I'm not sure about like Amaranthus caudatus (Love-Lies-Bleeding). Folks have sown hardy annuals like poppies in January successfully.

I'll be inverting wire fence sections or strips of chicken wire over the whole business to safeguard against high winds and roaming 4-pawed critters.

Here's a couple of links that I'm referring to for how to wintersow:

http://www.wintersown.org/ - there's a link on the first page you come to that lists which plants have been successfully wintersown by zone, including ours.

http://www.lakehousecreations.com/winter_sowing.htm (This one has a link to the DG Wintersowing Forum - there's a thread about whether to sow in this balmy weather or not.)

This one is so beautiful - there's another thread on the DG Wintersowing Forum where people are sharing their response to these sentiments: http://www.wintersown.org/wseo1/Solstice_Celebration.html The winter solstice may have passed, but this is something we can all do anyway this winter.

Thanks again everyone, have much enjoyed getting to know you during this swap.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

Glad to see the envelopes are arriving.

Susan, I have some garden books I am going to go thru, but I had seen on the WS forum or somewhere that someone in my zone was going to start their columbine now. Along with certain Clematises, those I will have to google. I google alot of my seeds :o) To me it is easier to use than Daves, but alot of the links I come across sends me right to DG's plantfiles anyway lol.
(I haven't even got my seed packets ready for sherans valetine swap yet) shhh don't say anything. lol

I am not sure if I am doing this WSing right or not, but I will learn. Well I am off to finish my columbines, so I can get them out side b4 it gets dark...

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

I also received my seeds today! I am so excited to have gotten quite a few seed varieties that I wanted to try in my yard! THANK YOU to everyone who shared your seeds with me!

A special THANKS to Connie for organizing this wonderful swap! You did an awesome job Connie! I don't know how you kept it all straight with so many of us! Truly amazing! I hope your garden is just bursting with all kinds of plants and flowers this spring and summer. May you get a good harvest of seeds from ALL of them to get your seed business off to a great start! Wishing you much success in your business endeavor! :-) :-) :-)

Now the hard part comes ..... waiting for Spring to arrive or giving wintersowing a try!

Bluespiral - THANKS for posting the links to the websites on info about wintersowing! Very, very helpful! That was so nice of you to find all that information and share it with all of us! :-) I've never done wintersowing before and may be giving it a try here in the next couple of weeks! I will probably do that with half the contents of each seed pack. Then save the rest for Spring in case my wintersowing doesn't work! That way I'll have enough seeds left to plant in the Spring to try to germinate all the great seeds I received in this swap!

Y'all rock when it comes to generosity and sharing your bounty of seeds! I can't thank each and everyone of you enough!

Hart - Thank you sooooo much for the redbud seeds! I really appreciate it! Your seed packets are so cute! :-) Loved the snowman design!

Mamajack - I can't believe you wrapped my seeds! I so appreciate the extra seeds that you sent me! :-)

Even though Christmas is over ..... it felt like Christmas all over again opening the envelope and seeing all the exciting seeds that I will be sowing soon! I will think of the generosity from ALL of you ..... for sharing your seeds to be added in my own little garden paradise! Thank you, thank YOU!!!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

I received 2 seed packets that didn't have a plant name on them. I am posting a photo of each of the seed packets hoping that whoever sent them will dmail me to let me know what the plant names are.

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

Hi Becky, There should be a white peice of paper in the morning glory pack, those are from my garden, the ones you asked me for and the pink corn is also the ones you asked me for. ook on the seed pack, its there but faint. I can't get on my laptop at the moment but I will look on the file on that one and see if it is still there... I deleted the ones I didn't keep on this Computer...

I know it is on one of the earlier threads, just not sure which one :o)

I got part of my columbines started today, I have to go get some more peat moss to mix with my organic soil to finish all my other seeds. Well I am off to bed, You all have a great night / day.

Connie

Austell, GA(Zone 7a)

Got my seeds yesterday too. What fun this was. Thanks Connie for organizing this. I'll think of you guys when these babies are growing in my yard.

Brenda

San Jose, CA

My seeds arrived yesterday! I was so excited to open this wonderful package. So many surprises and so many things that I had been wanting. It's going to be fun just looking everything up and deciding how much of everything to sow and which ones to wintersow. (I did wintersowing last year in Zone 9 and I was surprised by how successful it was, in case anyone is trying it for the first time.)

Everyone spent so much time, especially and foremost Connie. Thank you so much for your tremendous effort. Seeds are always so much more special when you know someone collected them from their garden.

Thank you to everyone! I think we should start a thread later in the year for people to post pictures of some of the things they grew from the seeds.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

oooooooooh, lilystorm........when did you winter sow? what month? did you do it completely outside? do you have freezing temps at all?

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

hmmmmmmm I can't winter sow because they start growing and then die when we get another freeze. I just start things inside

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Received my seeds too yesterday, thanks so much for organizing this.

Kalama, WA(Zone 8b)

mamajack, I started wintersowing last year around the third week of January. I tried some in December of last year and the poor seedlings got confused by the late warmth, but the ones I started in late January did great. We sometimes get a light frost, but it doesn't freeze very often. However, freezing temps aren't really required for wintersowing. It just needs to be whatever winter is for you. BTW, I did the wintersowing outside in a cheapie vinyl greenhouse. The greenhouse keeps the humidity up a bit and makes the whole operation a bit tidier to manage.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

o.k. then they were protected by greenhouse cover but without heat. you did it late jan. so i bet i should wait till early to mid. feb. what do you think? because our worst weather here is usually feb. if you don't mention the snow we got thanksgiving a few years back. lol. so i need to go thru my seeds and refrig. the ones that need long periods of cold so i can plant in feb. thank you all for letting me think out loud. i am with donna b though on thinking that if i plant too early the seeds will germinate and then die with the freezes we will prob. get in feb. i am going to do this in a kiddie pool with a plastic cover that can be removed on hot days if needed. does anyone see any holes in this plan?

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

mamajack (barb) thanks for the feedback :o) and to the rest that left feed back too...

I am fixing to hit the sheets, I can't keep my eyes open much longer lol...

Ken bought me another new garden book today for only 10 bucks, If they would have had that there when he bought me the other 3, I would have gotten just this one instead of paying 75.00 for the other 3 :( geesh. but they are really all good and focus on native plants for Michigan.

My grandaughter may be moving in with me for a while :o) I hope she does, since she has hit the teen years I haven't got to spend a lot of time with her. She use to stay with me alot when she was little. I sure do miss those days... Shame they have to grow up...

Well you all have a good night/day chat with you all tomorrow.
