Get Ready Everybody =o) Envelopes are being mailed out today! *smiles* Please post when they arrive.

You all are such a great group ;o)

I will be starting a thread for the St Patty's day seed swap soon. so keep your eyes open *grinning* I am going to keep it simple enough. not sure but may limit it to 20 to 30 ppl. will have to wait and see...

Also I have got a website now (still working on it) and was wondering if some of you would check it out and dmail me the results. its called conniesgarden.com just put the ( http:/ ) in front of it... I need to know how it appears and how the links work. Remember its still a work in progress... It isn't ready to publish yet.

Connie

I found the person who asked for the Dwarf Burning Bush Seed, it was LeBug...

Connie - I took a look at your website. Are you selling the seeds on your website from this seed swap?

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

Now why would I do that lol ???

I won't have the site up and running for a little while yet, and the seeds come from my flowers I grew this past spring and will also come from the plants I grow this spring (I hope anyway)

All the seeds I have received from the various swaps I have been in, are for my gardens.

Connie

I'm happy for you Connie in your new enterprise. Good luck!

Connie it looks great and the links work. The only complaint I have is the black background is hard on the eyes for people with bad vision or at least my vision lol

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

What a funny question, Becky! Who on earth sells seeds from a swap? I can just see Connie's next link: "On offer today are some seeds in a little plastic baggie from summerkid. She scribbled something on it with a Sharpie, but I can't read her handwriting. $10 per packet."

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

I just want to take a moment to thank each of you for participating in this swap. I got all the envelopes mailed out today :o) I also want to thank those of you that sent extra postage, It really helped... So THANK YOU.

Also thank you for checking out the website. and Barb for checking the shipping email link :o) Took me forever to get that working right... Each page has its own email title link. But if one works they all work *grinning* I have forgotten alot of the html I learned, so it took alot of time.
There is still loads of work I have to do with the website, and I only work on it in my spare time now... I still have to figure out how to apply the shooping cart, not sure how I want to do it yet...

Thanks again and don't for get to post when they arrive :-}

Connie

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

JoAnn Thank you so much, now how do I plant them :o)

Connie

Winterville, GA(Zone 8a)

Connie,
You can wintersow them now at a depth of about 3 times the size of the seed, or wait til spring and peel off the outer shell then plant.

Okay update on envelopes...

PO called me today, and boy am I ticked... there are 18 BE being returned to me. My scale was off (some were off a few cents) errrrrrr But the post master accused me of using used stamps AND I DIDN"T, I told her that to. Also I have to redo a couple because I put some tape at the edges because the sticky stuff wouldn't hold, she refused those because of the little bit of tape I used grrrrrrrr

She said any envelopes that the stamps have tape on, they can not take... That is soooo bull...
So my mail lady is bringing them back to me and I will be taking them in to Monroe's P.O. tomorrow and mailing them from there... That just burns my (you know what)...

I am sitting here looking out my window and waiting for the mail lady now. I never know when she is going to show up. Sometimes shes here by 1:30 and then again doesn't show up til 4:00...

I wish my other mail lady hadn't retired, she was good and came the same time everyday...

So some of the BE are going to be a little longer getting to you... I won't know who's they are till the ding bat gets here :(

Will let you know then.

Austell, GA(Zone 7a)

Connie, your story made me think of one. I got a wedding invitation from my DH's cousin's daughter. I had to pay additional postage. The funny thing is the cousin had taken them to a small post office where her sister is postmaster. Isn't that a hoot?

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

That is a hoot... I am getting so sick of the Postal Service... What ticked me off was her calling me a liar... she must be PMSing really bad... And just think, if dh and I stay here another 6 years I still have to put up with her :( Oh well life goes on, trying to be like a duck and let it roll right off my back... Mail just run... I am ticked forget about it running off my back grrr...
She pulled each stamp loose. Do you believe that bull. grrrrr

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Connie, you need to call the postal service (1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777) and complain about this postal worker. If a stamp doesn't have a postmark through it, it's not used. Not to mention she has no business being rude to you. It doesn't matter what you used to stick a stamp on. (And if I were you, I'd be tempted to stick them back on with superglue. LOL)

I've found stamps often don't want to stick to the padded envelopes. I've used tape to make sure they didn't fall off and had no problems mailing them that way.

I absolutely loathe the postal service. Like you, I never know when my mail is going to show up. I had a late Christmas present I ordered, the seller went out of her way to make sure it was mailed in plenty of time to get here by Christmas. Now, I have complained at least four or five times because my lazy mailman will make no effort to deliver packages, just stick a pink slip in the mailbox claiming he has tried to deliver. I don't always have a car so that I can drive to the post office to get them.

The day before Christmas Eve, I watched that mailbox like a hawk to see if the package arrived. I went down just before five and mail had finally arrived but instead of a package, there was a pink "we tried to deliver" slip.

Of course it was too late to go to the post office and pick it up. Luckily I had a car the next day, but I'm telling you I went ballistic over this. If the package had arrived the next day, I wouldn't have had that gift for Christmas because it would have been too late for me to drive up and pick it up.

If I order anything and have any choice in getting packages I opt for UPS over USPS.

I need to by me a new postal scale :( what a pain...

One enevelope, when I was taping it up, I got tape over the stamps and they won't take it like that.. and there was no way to get the tape off the stamps without ripping them up... errrr
So if you guys send out anymore BE to anyone be sure NOT to get tape on them, not even on the corners, She pulled every stamp loose and said they were used because the envelope stuck to the spots that did stick...

I should have known today wasn't going to be a good day, I woke up with a sick headache and had to lay back down after taking something for it... With a ice pack.... geesh when it rains it pours... Now I am getting my headache back from stain fumes and Postal Blues rofl...

Well all the envies are correct now so shouldn't be no problems tomorrow mailing them...

Sorry about that... You all have a good night. I am getting off the computer now, got to fix dinner...

Connie

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

I don't know if it is just the state of michigan or what, but they refuse to take envelopes now that have tape on the stamps. What I am ticked off really about, is she lifted the corners of every one that had tape one them and said they were used, and none had postal marks because they weren't used... Thanks for the phone number... Making a note of it and will call tomorrow... This is such bull... One day last week we didn't get any mail because the tree cutters had there big truck on the road, her claim for not delivering was she couldn't get around it... That was bull to because my hubby got in and out just fine, and our house is the very last house on this dead end road.... I hate living here, I really really do... Would love to be off this deadend...

It's wacko dealing with the post office. I have a good carrier & friendly office here. But up in Brookfield, those folks were a nightmare. They all LOOKED like trolls & acted like it too. I stop selling on ebay around Christmas now every year because one year people were buying gifts & paying for Priority Mail & it was taking THREE WEEKS to deliver these supposed 2-3 day packages. It was a nightmare, and the manager in Brookfield said she couldn't do anything because each office is run differently.

WHY???????

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

I have no clue, they should ALL have the same policies. But don't...

And just think, I use to want to work for one roflmbo, Glad I changed my mind lol

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

yes I would think they are all the same to but have found out some are not. Living here in the country now it is run by subcontrators!!! They close for lunch and are not open on Saturdays although we do get saturday deliverys

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

Our post office is open til noon on Saturdays, and they close M thru F from 12:30 to 1:30 for lunch... It still shouldn't give them the right to do the things that they are doing, they should all have to follow the same rules, but then again, well won't say no more...

Connie

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

got you beat Connie lol. Ours closes for lunch from 12:30 to 1:45 and they close at 4:30 p.m. geesh!!!!!!! not sure what time they open. Have to check that out

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

I think ours opens at 8, may be 7.. not really sure myself lol

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Sorry to hear about the postage issue! Do you need me to reimburse you with some more stamps, Connie?

Often, I get so annoyed with our small town post office, too. I have heard that they hold certain mail for certain days .... catalogs, ads, etc. get lumped together and delivered like once or twice a week from what I can tell. And I have seen mail to be delivered in the same town take 5 days! Ridiculous!

BUT .....

I got a shock on SUNDAY, Dec. 24th ...... I had ordered some late gifts for my kids and didn't expect them to arrive until after Christmas. But, to my pleasant surprise, the postal worker rang my door bell that Sunday afternoon and there sat all 3 packages! I was dumbfounded! So I wrapped them up and put them under the tree ..... still in disbelief! LOL!

So .... right now I can not say anything negative about my little local post office. And I will say .... All the folks that work there that I have met are so very nice as is my mail carrier! So at this moment, I can honestly say that I am happy with my postal service. :-)

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

connie i can send you some more stamps to cover mine, how much do you need? any idea
plmk
moretz

hi connie...our postoffice refuses to accept postage with clear tape over them because one can wipe off the post mark from the tape real easily and reuse..he showed me how so now i know..i never thought to do that but i suppose other people have done that...so i am careful about sending envelopes putting tape on first then the stamps on the very last...it is not a new policy it is to prevent abuse...is what i was told.
pamsue

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

Oh lord NO I have plent rofl, don't any of you send extra postage. My scale was off not by much at all and you all sent plenty of postage but 1 and I had already told her not to send any that I would cover the cost to return to her... Besides hart sent lots and lots of stamps :o) way more than what was needed.

It just ticked me off that the post master called me a liar and took and lifted all the stamps up and because the envelope stuck to them she said they were reused... (just the ones that had the tape on them. I put the tape on to keep them from getting caught on something and ripping them off... I should have used glue (which I did this time) rofl

Well my grandaughter is here to spend the night with her granny, (boy that makes it sound like she just a tiny thing, doesn't it?) lol She will be 16 March 8th... Boy do I feel old rofl

She is playing games on my laptop...

You all have a good night / day =o)

the same thing hapened to me. i was so mad and told them so. they s
keyboard is mesed up and double leters don't type and mistakes can't be corected. this mesage is not that improtant. lol.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7a)

To be honest I remember I had a hard time getting those self-adhesive stamps to stay completely "sealed" to the envelope I sent you. I almost whipped out the glue stick to make sure all the edges were sealed down flat. I remember the edges of the stamps were beginning to lift a tiny bit.

I've also noticed that on alot of the packages I get the stamps are not cancelled anymore. Weird.

Austell, GA(Zone 7a)

Normally I don't have any problems with my mail service. In fact, my carrier is really super and brings packages to the door and leaves them if we are not here.

I've heard for years about taping over stamps - they do not like that!

I had an experience at the post office before Christmas. My son had bought a playstation I think over the net and it was faulty in the beginning. Since he could not get to the post office, I took it for him. Sent it priority mail - she asked the usual question - hazardous, etc. - no, insurance - I said yes - she said how much, I said $300 - she asked what it was - I said electronics - she saw it was going to a repair center. She said we won't pay that because it is broke. I said what? She said it is going to a repair center and it is broke, right?

Does this seem right? I mean, if it gets lost, he's out the money, broke or not. I'll try not to use her window in the future cause we do tend to get sideways sometimes.

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

I pound the stamps down really hard. I'm always looking for things to beat on that feel illicit (take THAT, post office!), it's such a release. I often take prescription sleeping pills, which have the bad side effect of being uninhibiting AND causing sleepwalking. Sometimes I get up & cook things, which is disastrous because I'll wake up with a couple of BandAids & the kitchen will be a MESS (motor skills suffer in these instances). Occasionally I get a burst of sleepwalking ambition & take a sledgehammer to random walls that bug me. Drives my b'friend nuts because he technically owns the house I'm living in.

He made me sign up for welding & AutoCad classes this winter because he says I'd better start learning how to put things back together right quick!

But if I can't sleep & don't resort to the meds, then I just stay up all night & order plants (in the dark night of the soul a person really really NEEDS a staghorn fern. And maybe 5 kinds of bamboo).

Which do you think is worse?!

(Zone 7a)

Summerkid, I've always found pondering "who are we in the dream state" a fascinating thing. But one avenue of discovery with regard to the mysteries of sleep, in particular, occurs to me: how about visiting one of those sleep centers where they get a diagnostic handle on why people who visit them can't sleep? Gardenwife did, and said it really helped her. Maybe they could find an alternate to those sleep pills for you.

I love bamboo - Asian artists evoked so many moods with it - can't find the moody one I downloaded with a tiger in a misty grove of bamboo right now, but here's another one I like. I have labeled it in my files:

GessoYoshimoto_PrimroseMtn_artlin_c1930s

The source of this image as well as this and many other images of Gesso comes up when you type Gesso + Yoshimoto into the search bar of www.google.com I like to just collect these images on my hard drive in order of their respective historical eras - a wonderful tool for studying the nexus of art history and flowers, plants, landscapes, gardens, etc. Here's a great online website that provides much food for thought on the subject for starters: http://witcombe.sbc.edu/ARTHLinks.html

If all goes well with Ye Post Office, the seed I ordered when I joined the North American Rock Garden Society this past fall that resembles the primrose in this woodcut will arrive in my mailbox sometime in late February. It looks a little bit like Primula sieboldii, except that P. sieboldii's petals are fringed like pinks.

Well, summerkid, what gardener can stay on topic when a favorite plant is mentioned?

Thumbnail by bluespiral
Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

Oh, isn't that just perfect. I collect old kimonos (have about 2,000 of them) and of course Mt. Fuji is a common motif, but generally only on the men's kimonos, and then just on the lining, which was often a handpainted masterpiece that no one ever SAW! Isn't that odd to our ostentatious Western way of thinking?

(Zone 7a)

Summerkid, hold on to your kimonos, I'm about to get up on my soap box -

Sometimes I wonder exactly what "Western way of thinking is". I think that phrase may have more to do with who's purporting to represent it or who's paying attention - as opposed to who actually comprises it. It is such a melting pot of so many different ethnicities and cultures, and there is such a richness of spirit here one would never suspect existed if one's main source of information were just the political or commercial interests that speak loudest. I guess I think this is true of all parts of earth, actually. I really think it's so important to look beyond the noise of divisiveness to the common humanity that unites us all.

So, with regard to masterpieces that no one ever sees, well, that's one of the great things about the internet - it has become a vast repository of hundreds of thousands of images of art and artifacts going back thousands of years from every corner of earth - available free and online to anyone with an interest. If commercial interests have their way, we will lose that free, online access to these masterpieces (as well as to countless books) - I can't think of a harsher blow to education for anyone with access to the internet, but without economic resources to pursue education very far.
