I'm not even that crazy about lemon flavored things but I love lemon curd. I hesitate to compare it to pie filling. To me it doesn't taste the same at all and is much richer. Heck, just go get some and try it. LOL

but you know ladies...........the name curd...............who names this stuff? curd. truly it sounds as though it is a spoiled thing. i am country and curd ain't never going to be in the diet. i am a near redneck as i had hushpuppies at the wedding buffet, you know. so if i made that it will be known as lemon filling or lemon icing. we have icing down here and fillings, not curd. lol. and speaking of poking holes in cakes have you ever added sweetened condensed milk to those holes?
and this is just a little clarification in case i offend someone. my tongue is ALWAYS in my cheek. just having fun.
LOL MamaJack. We had seafood gumbo at my wedding.
Like most of our single syllable words, curd is probably Anglo-saxon. So blame the Anglo-saxons for naming this stuff. LOL I'll see tomorrow if I can dig out my Oxford English Dictionary and see what the original source was for the word.
But curds (remember curds and whey?) are the part of milk used to make cheese. Think cottage cheese. I would guess from that it was used for anything that was thick or thickened.
And I had country ham biscuits at my wedding. nyah nyah
(We know you're just joshing, Barb.)
now we're talkin'. and hart, just curious, but are you a teacher?
Nope. I was a newspaper reporter. Whiz at research, you know?
but a word person, nonetheless.............i love word people.
when i graduated from high school i moved to texas and took a job at the dallas morning news......in the news dept. i worked in the reference lab. no money but i loved that job. one of the morris the cats came their once. and sal mineo. remember him? he was so cute. he came to the News to promote one of those supper club productions (dinner theaters.lol). he wore a white suit with bell bottomed pants. and danced to one of those instrumental songs that was so popular way back then. what a dream! oh well enough of going down memory lane.
Didn't we all have a crush on Sal Mineo when we were kids? LOL
I'm afraid all the famous people I met were boring old politicians. I was a political reporter. And, yes, I'm a word person for sure. You have no idea how some of the posts - you know, the ones with no paragraphs and ellipses instead of punctuation - are like nails down a chalkboard to me. LOL
oh, and my lack of caps and indentions etc., etc. must really drive you nuts. it's just such a pain for me to slow down and hit the shift button when i get to talking. and at least one other person expressed their disdain for me because i don't follow correct grammatical rules. and i am really bad about using all caps for complete sentences if i am wanting to stress something. she accused me of yelling. hahahahahahahaha
Barb it is considered yelling/screaming when you use all caps... I use to have a really bad habit of using them, because I couldn't see the print that well, ppl would say will you quit screaming/yelling at me. lol. I tried to explain but they would still tell me not to yell. So I quit talking to them. Now that I have bifocals I don't have that problem.. rofl
Uh Oh I bet you all really get the creeps reading my posts then.I am another that just types along til I'm finished and if it gets stuck on all capital letters theres where it stays til I'm finished.I never realized that mean't yelling. In that case I am surprised anyone is still speaking to me.LOL
It's read as yelling and it's also much harder to read than lower case and upper case. Yes, I've seen a number of people excuse using all caps by saying they can see it better. They can't.
Mamajack, I never noticed anything wrong with your posts. I'm talking about the people who write line after line after line after line with no punctuation other than ellipses (...) and no paragraph breaks. It's actually exhausting on your eyes to try and read something like that.
I don't care about grammer and spelling as long as I can figure out what someone is trying to say. Which in some cases I can't. Not talking about anyone here.
well if all caps are considered yelling how do you express "i want you to see this. look at me"? if i say I WANT YOU TO SEE THIS ...LOOK AT ME you do see it and you do look. right?
roflmho
Uh, yeah. That's what you're supposed to use it for. Now stop yelling. LOL
LOL You are all just too much. : )
Ya'll are funny:) I just type to fast, but not well, and constantly have to go back and reverse letters. Curd does sound pretty gruesome. Mamajack, I've tried the swt. cond. milk, lemonade concentrate and the best coconut cake I ever made had a can of that sweet coconut milk used for mixing drinks (Coco Lopez) poured and soaked in those cake holes. I keep getting talked into going out either shopping or dining after work and haven't gotten anything done! I have to work every day right up to 2pm Christmas Eve (7 days straight). We're off Christmas Day and I'm off again on Wednesday. Maybe I'll bake for New Year's instead:lol:
now connie..........."rolling on the floor laughing my WHAT off"? you changed that. last time it was x-rated i know and i can't think of a thing that starts with an "H". heart. heart out? is it heart out? i liked "bo" better. i am an x-rated kinda girl though. forgive me again for my vulgarity as i am but white southern trash of very common birth.
and on the curd........ and the nursery rhyme? rotten milk and some kind of cereal? is that right?
and tell us hart............did you ever uncover any crooks? never a shortage of those in your field. and how far are you from fairfax, virginia? and are people in the valley different from those in fairfax? those people are not friendly people, hart. they sure did not get me. at all. maybe i scared 'em. back in my black leather days i was on a sidewalk going into a restaurant and had just had enough of unfriendly people so i walked right up to this couple and said "HI!" they literally turned away from me. and i "busted" out laughing. folks don't do that in fairfax, i guess. lol.
and dmac........coco lopez........kinda catchy. i like the way it sounds.
roflm hindend off
so it WAS x-rated.
rofl
Fairfax is about 85 miles from here. I lived there for a couple of years, grew up in the next county over. I assume, btw, that you're talking about Fairfax City and not Fairfax County. Both the city and the county have the same name.
People in that urban part of northern Virginia don't speak on the street. At all. I would imagine the fact that you said hello set them aback rather than what you were wearing.
I never even noticed it until I started working out here and got into the habit of saying hello on the street. When I would automatically do the same back in northern Virginia, people would just stare.
Yes, people in the valley are different from people in northern Virginia but only as people in rural areas are different from people in urban areas anywhere. I would actually say beyond things like saying hello, the valley folks are more leery of strangers. But that's a story going back to the history of the valley. The valley was settled by Germans, not the English that settled the more eastern portions of the state. They didn't even speak the same language as the rest of the state until around the 1850s. And then the valley was devastated during the Civil War.
Also, everyone in places like Fairfax is from someplace else, nearly all of them came there to work in DC or for the military. So you can't say there are certain traits common there.
It's my understanding that curds and whey in the nursery rhyme is cottage cheese. Not so scary. LOL
Coco lopez - try using this in place of some of the water next time you make rice. It doesn't really make the rice taste like cocoanut, just gives it a delicious flavor.
see i am a hick. all of you have not only heard of coco lopez but you have actually used it. me i use things like turnip juice pored thru cornbread holes. lol.
i figured fairfax was that way due to so many cultures packed into a small place and no one really trusting anyone else. i enjoyed visiting that whole area though hart. it was beautiful and outside of that city folks were friendly enough. i enjoyed hearing the history of the area though. it makes all the difference.

i am up this late because i am trying to buy a lily off the lily auction. the blame thing ends at 4 am. lousy planning on the seller's part if you ask me. but it's a hot one so wish me luck. i am buying the thing with a guy from daves who is just a hoot. nothing like online buddies.
Fingers and toes all crossed for you, Susan. What a wonderful Christmas present that would be!
Mamajack, I hope you got your lily. They don't have proxy bids on the lily auction or are you just afraid it will go higher and you won't be able to respond?
I posted this in the Mid Atlantic forum, but I thought you all could do with a laugh this morning. This is my pit bull, Java, who is the biggest sweetie pie ever.
Oh Oh Oh Merry Christmas Everybody :o)
That is cute hart, and mama I hope you got your lily :o)
Hope all goes well for you and your dh Susan.
Well as dh and I were watching TV last night, I started working on sorting and filling everyones wants :o) I am just doing a little at a time while I am RELAXING and enjoying being able to watch the boob tube lol :o)
I am not going to be staying on here to long, dh is gone to the store and going to stop and visit one of his db's. So I am going to take advantage and clean this house up, really don't have that much to do, but it is so hard to do anything when Ken is under foot, worse than having kids home all day long rofl...
Will be back on in a little bit... You all have a great day/night
Connie
oh connie, i just realized that you are now pepsidrinker. i remember you saying you were going to change the other day but i guess i thought you were kidding. and thank you for wishing me a merry Christmas. i wish you one too.

Must be the angle because she's not a very big dog, Mamajack. Maybe 35-40 lbs.
Rats on the lily. Maybe the same seller will have another? Or your buddy can save you some offshoots?
hart, pinebeltman ain't my buddy. i don't know who he is except the booty butt who outbid me. lol.
Well, heck, let's go get him then. Take away all his lilies and make him cry.
MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY :o)
Connie

Well I got up this morning and expected to see snow on the ground, but didn't, I know the temps are dropping :(
I am sitting here with the little heater on that Ken bought me... I am FREEZING!
I started seperating the seeds and filling the wants list. Just a little over half way there :o) I figure if I get ana3 envelope this week I should be able to mail them out next week YEA :o)
I hope you all had a great christmas, I did, it was nice and quite and peaceful, then we went to my BIL's for about 3 hours... It was really nice. My oldest Grandchild and her boyfriend went with us...
Why do kids have to grow up :( Wish they could stay little longer than they do... ;-}
Well I hope you all have a Happy New Year... If I have my way, I am staying in on New Years Eve, unless Ken gets a phone call to preach at one of the churchs that will be having services to bring the New Year in.. I hope not, cause I really really just want to stay home.
Connie
Connie
tell him he can preach without you ... no use preaching to the choir now, is there?
Okay received Ana's envelope today...
So will be mailing out a few tomorrow along with lelan's, and the rest next week... still working on 9kittymoms :o)...
Okay, got to get off here and try to get a hold of Charter Cable Co and fight with them. Dang sent us a bill for a 125.00 and we just got it last week and wrote the guy a check for it. errrr I hate when the left hand don't let the right one know what it is doing... And trying to contact our local office is a pain in the *you know what* geesh...
You all have a great night, will try to get on a little later.
Happy New Year,
Connie
Joy
Did you by any chance send any chocolate cosmos???? If so what did you call it?
Thanks Connie
No. Sorry. Chocolate cosmos can't be grown from seed, it doesn't produce seed. It's a tubers or cuttings plant only.
