It's that time of year again! The 2006 DG Photo Contest!

West Central, WI(Zone 4a)

I'm not sure that I want to know how many votes my entries get. It could be very humiliating. LOL

Maybe it would be best not to know the vote count until after the 2nd round of voting, so as not to influence the results for 'Best in Show'.

bivbiv,
Me, too!! Guess I'm just a glutton for punishment,eh?!lol

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I'm curious but not for my entries, but for the ones I voted for. If they didn't win, how close were they? How many other people voted for that certain one? ect...

Central FL, FL(Zone 9b)

Well, in that case, can we ask that Dave post the votes for all entries? I think that would be fun and interesting.

I wasn't planning to reveal how many votes each entry got, for many reasons (the first of which, I don't want those who got the fewest votes to see just how far down the line they got - Myself included!)

Aw, c'mon, Dave. We're all grown-ups and can take it. :o) I think all of us reached adulthood before the current trend to give every child an award, even when they lose. If you won't give the votes for every entry, could we at least access our own?

There's always exception. I've learned a lot in the last 6 years.

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

I 'm with Dave on the showing the number of votes thing. I wouldn't want to know. Besides, I just entered some of mine for the fun of sharing them. I don't expect to "win" but I'm not sure I want to know if nobody liked mine either! Can't take rejection. :)

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

DebinSC, I'm with Dave too.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Maybe we could compromise. Show the top 5 or 10 vote getters per category. That would save my embarrassment but also could be encouraging for the runners-up.
This would also be much easier on Dave than listing a thousand standings.

Well, since some of us don't want to know the number of votes we got and some do, I'll go back to my question as to whether it would be possible to access only our own if we wish. If you don't want to know, then you won't have to; but if you do, you can find out.

Northern, IN

I'm curious why we all wouldn't just agree with bivbiv...?

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

I agree with bivbiv but there is no way that I wouldn't look, lol.
I'm also thinking about the extra work for Dave.
Andy P

Northern, IN

I agree Andy. I didn't stop to think what extra load this might put on DG Dave.

I'm with you on lookin'...

Dave

Central FL, FL(Zone 9b)

Andy, that sounds like a good compromise.

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Curiosity killed the cat........

Northern, IN

Great to hear your fresh voice from the UK.

Smart cats should know better.

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Wise words dw!

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

I smell trouble. Don't do it, Dave!

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I agree--I don't think we should be able to see the vote count (except for the winners), even if it's limited to you viewing just your own totals. Some people are more sensitive than others and get their feelings hurt easier, and I guarantee that someone will look at their numbers and get hurt feelings because their picture didn't get many votes. We all say we could handle seeing our own numbers even if our pictures got no votes and I'm sure there are a few out there who wouldn't be bothered, but someone's feelings are going to end up getting hurt and that's just not what DG is all about!

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

You guys are right. I think that's a can of worms best left closed. Let's keep the fun in this.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

I agree with ya, gram..... :)

Melanie

There's a mixed view in this thread about the subject, so I'm going to have to cast the tie-breaking vote. :) You all already know what my view is and that's what I'm sticking to. Each category will have 3 winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd place) and the rest are "runners up".

dave

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Terrific!

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Dave, that works for me. I'm easy, lol.
Andy P

West Central, WI(Zone 4a)

As usual, Dave's decision is the right one. Thanks Dave!

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Dave, I like the "the rest are 'runners up' " part. :o)

Northern, IN

Me too.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Diplomacy rules! You are our leader, Dave!

Well put, Dave.

It's a win win situation for all. Kudos to you.
DeannaV

Central FL, FL(Zone 9b)

I see why that's the best solution, Dave.

I love all this agreement and happy smiles! Well done! 6 more days of voting, then we'll vote for the Best of Show. I think we'll only need to have that vote open for a few days, however...

dave

Grand Forks, BC(Zone 5b)

We'll be ready!

Wow! The photo contest has sure come a long way since that first one several years ago! But then this whole site has evolved into an amazing array of features and forums. I now often find myself lost in the options of things to see and forums to follow. But it is a very pleasant place to be befuddled in!

As for what I look for when I vote ... I just vote for what I like looking at ;~)

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Can I ask a stupid question? Okay, I already did... but here goes another. When is voting for the first round going to be finished?

Hollywood, FL(Zone 10b)

I think it's over on the 15th.

Yep, the 15th. Then we vote on best of show and the final results on or around the 18th.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

I was viewing the entries again because they are so great. I noticed that the photos for which I had voted still had check marks. May I change my votes and then hit "Register Votes" ?

Eesh, were it not for you mentioning that your votes still had checks in them... I wouldn't have realized that I didn't register my votes. htop, there's a place way at the bottom to click to register your votes. I don't recall seeing that before but I could be wrong. Anyway, I went back to each category and registered each vote so maybe this means that you can change your votes any type up until when you actually register them?

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

You could change them last year, I imagine it's the same this year. All you do is tick/untick your selection and register at the bottom, this should change any voting already registered.
