I have never seen that either. I pulled up IE and looked. On IE, if you go to 'view', then 'toolbar', then 'customize', that blue icon for 'full screen' can be added or removed. I do not see the same option on Firefox. Is it any different than using the icons in the very top, very right corner? There is a minus sign, box on box and of course the big red X to close the screen.
I went to IE and added that to my tool bar. You know, I accidentally do that (full screen) to my screen all the time and don't remember how. LOL
Firefox 2.0 is to be released today
LOL, Badseed! I did it yesterday to see what it looked like and then couldn't figure out how to get it back. I did finally figure it out though. LOL
In Firefox, just hit the F-11 key and it'll fullscreen it for you. :) Hit F11 again to make it go back to the windowed mode.
dave
berrygirl, if you just hit F11 on your keyboard, you get the full view. You don't need to go thru view and then scroll down. Just hit F11, very top of your keyboard, and you should get it. That's how it is on mine anyway. Hope that helps some. I was like everybody else, I pulled up IE and I don't have an icon to make it full view.
Ah Dave beat me to the punch!
Strange echo here. LOL
Actually, hitting the F 11 key doesnt do that for me, hence my gripe- LOL!
But thanks all for the tips, I'll just stick with IE.
berrygirl, if you click on view on Firefox and go down to Full Screen, does it say anything after it? Mine says F11. Not F and then two ones, but the keys across the very top of your keyboard. I don't mean that to sound like you're stupid, I'm thinking about how I don't know a whole lot about computers and one time when my dad was telling me to hit F something, I was hitting the F key then the number he had said, not the ones across the screen. So please don't take this as me insulting you :o)
Terry,
yes I knew all that and no I dont think you're insulting me. My point is I dont want to HAVE to do that in FF. In IE I just click on an icon for full screen view. I guess I am THAT lazy- LOL!!
Thanks for your help!!
:o)
Does anyone know if updating to the new version would have an effect on Thunderbird mail? Since I downloaded FF.2 I keep having intermittent troubles sending mail...keep getting an error message:
" An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: Error in writing spool file. Please check the message and try again."
At first I thought maybe my email was too big (had pics attached). But just now sent an email consisting of 4 short sentences and still got the error message.
Any idea what's going on?
Thanks.
Shoe.
Shoe, your e-mail is being powered by your #2 cylinder injector. Man this spell check is slick.
HAH! Best laff I've had all day! Thanks, Dyson! I really needed that!
(For those left in the dark...my tractor is also experiencing a malfoogerty, number two cylinder; posted in Farm Forum.) Dyson gets around, eh?
Shoe.
I love the new version, especially how it keeps the browser tabs in case it crashes and you want to restore your session. The spell check is slick how it checks as you type. Nice!
The spell check is great but I have had to teach it to accept peoples' names and abbreviations such as altho, and the like. It surely isn't too smart..........:>)))

I have another question. Right before I installed the new version, when I opened up firefox, it was opening up 2 tabs. One is my home page with my ISP, the other is for here, DG. Installing the new version still opens up 2 tabs. Is that a setting that I'm too blind to find? I have no clue why or how it started doing that.
Terry,
Maybe you have preferences set to do that. I have never had 2 windows open at the same time.
Interesting though.
Molly
:^))))
Thanks Molly, I'll check that. I didn't do anything, if anybody did anything, it would be, yet again, my daughter. I don't really mind it I guess, just wondering why or what was done to cause it. Do you still call them 2 windows when it's really the tabs? Just asking, I'm a computer dummy and the book my dad gave me, Computers for Dummies, didn't really help much :o)
HA! As soon as I did that, it all came back and my DAD!! I must of had my home page, plus DG opened in another tab and he set it to be the current pageS. When I closed all the tabs and opens options again, it only said use current page open now. We can blame it all on my dad! So if anyone wants to open 2 tabs when they start up firefox, have 2 tabs open of your choice, go to options, main, and it should say use current pages, not page.
Terry,
I believe that is correct, 2 tabs are the same as 2 windows being open. With firefox they call them tabs. With internet explorer, windows.
I noticed the new firefox allows more tabs to open instead of opening an entire firefox "package?"
Alright Terry, now I am getting confused on the terminology.
:^))))
Been playing in the dirt all day Molly....but I give. What's an entire firefox package? I haven't used IE in gosh, I don't know how long, so I never knew that about them. With Netscape, I didn't know tabs existed.....my dad, the same one as above who messed me up, taught me that handy dandy trick of hitting ctrl and n at the same time to open a new window and then by gosh by golly, I figured out how to open a new tab. I just keep getting smarter and smarter :o)
When I clicked to download Firefox 2 it said Firefox2 exe. Took about 1 1/2 housrs to down load, then said be careful might have virus. I didnot see anywhere to install. So I don't know what I did wrong or didn't do. or what to do now.
Donna
Mine downloaded in 2-3 minutes, but I'm on high speed internet and a Mac.
Mine took about 30-45 minutes to Dload (dial up).
Rutholive, is there a firefoxexe icon on your desktop? If so, click that and the download will install. As for the virus warning, that is just your virus program asking you "are you sure". You can be safe with firefox.
I installed Firefox 2 today and have had no problems except....I can't find an icon to put my Outlook Express email shortcut on the toolbar. There is a Gmail icon available but no OE icon. Anybody know how to fix that?
Gmail?? What is that? I've not heard of icons you can put on your toolbar for your email. I'm watching to see what anyone else says.
Yes, you can make a shortcut to OE. Right-click on the toolbar (up near the home button is a good spot) and select "customize". You'll see a button for Mail in the resulting window. Just drag that button up onto your toolbar. If OE is your default mail application, that Mail button should open it when you click it.
You can also just make a Quick Launch shortcut to OE by right-clicking on the shortcut and dragging it to the Quick Launch toolbar on your Task Bar. When you release it, select "copy here".
Have you tried Mozilla's e-mail program Thunderbird? It's more secure than OE. It's worth a try if you've not given it a whirl. You can get to it on Mozilla's site http://mozilla.org
I use Thunderbird...and have for several years now...will never go back to OE.
Hi Kim & Melody,
The only button for Mail that I see when I select Customize is for Gmail. I do have a shortcut to OE on my Quick Launch bar..... I am just used to using the one on my toolbar (can't teach an old dog new tricks, etc.).
I am interested in checking out Thunderbird. I just haven't had time to do it. I keep thinking maybe this winter. Is it better at managing spam? I never used to get any spam at all but in the last six months I have started getting 3 or 4 a day and I really hate it.
What version of Firefox are you using, guys? Click Help > About and it will show you.
Come to think of it, I might have installed an extension to give me access to a Mail button in there. I'll have to check.
I'm running 2.0. I downloaded it when I saw this thread come up.
I did that screen print out of version 1.5.07 -- my bad. I just upgraded the laptop to version 2.0 and my mail button is gone. It must have been an extension I'd installed, and it must not be compatible with the newest version.
So -- plan B! Stick a shortcut to OE on your Quick Launch Toolbar on the Task Bar. If you don't see the Quick Launch next to your Start button, right-click on your Task Bar and go up to where it says Toolbars, then choose Quick Launch.
Hope that offers somewhat of a solution for you. At least you can get to it quickly without minimizing Firefox or going to your Start Menu. :)
I tried that and the only things it brought up were IE, FF and Logitech Image Studio......no OE.
You need to add OE to your QL toolbar, that's all. Just right-click the shortcut to it from your desktop or in your program menu and drag it down to the QL toolbar. When you let go of the mouse button, choose "copy here" and your OE shortcut will appear there, too.
Cool! Thank you, it's there now!
Does anyone have problems with Firefox freezing up on you....not responding.....or coming up with a window that says Firefox has encountered a problem and needs to close? This happens to me several times during the day and it's really quite frustrating!! Any suggestions?
No problems for me here... but I run a Mac
Me neither and I don't have a Mac. :^)))))
Internet Explorer, on the other hand, does that quite frequently.
Molly
