Firefox 2.0 is to be released today

A huge upgrade for Firefox is scheduled to be released today, and I encourage every person who uses a web browser of any sort to upgrade to this new release. I've been using Firefox 2.0 for a few days now and I can say that I am blown away by its excellency.

The built-in spell checker is phenomenal (it even helped me spell that word).

When it's available it'll be at www.getfirefox.com

Got it and done! Thanks Dave!

I see the tool bar got a new look too. ;)

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Ahah, finally got it downloaded. (And now I see that "ahah" is not a correctly-spelled word!)

Haven't checked out all the new features yet, will do that when I come back in to warm up.

Thanks for the heads up, dave!

By they way, I seem to have lost my dropdown menu for PlantFiles, Garden Watchdog, etc. All I have is the Google box. Do we need to add them under "manage search engines"?

Shoe.

Hi Shoe,

I think you can just re-add it at the various search engine locations at DG...

Thanks Dave, I did it too, but I think someone needs to tell the spell checker how to spell bougie.

:^))))

You can do that by right-clicking on the word and clicking on "Add to dictionary".

Dave, you are quick and on the ball!!!!!

Thanks,

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

I just downloaded it. It wouldn't let me keep the Google tool bar I had. Said it would search for one that might work but I didn't' have it do it. I used it mainly for the spell check and I did like the auto fill. I figured I would see what the spell check was like on this one before I checked into it. Haven't got to play with it much yet but I already like the close tab X.

Thanks Dave for letting us know of the update.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

This may be a 'duh' question...but,

Where's the spell checker???

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Mel I did the same thing. It's automatic it checks as you type like Word does. It will underline the words spelled wrong.

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

Here's a dumb question. It says it downloaded, but it didn't install. How do I install it? I have an older version and it should upgrade to the new. But how do I install?

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

There will be an 'install icon' on your desk top...click on that and it should go right to it.

Thanks Mystic....I had to mis-spell a word and it showed up..

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

Nope, I installed again to see where it put it :). I found it in a file in Videos. I've still got my Google tool bar. I don't understand though, if it underlines the word and you don't have the Google toolbar to hit spell check, how do you check the spelling of a word?

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

terryr if it underlines the word, use your mouse and right click on the word it will give you spelling suggestions.

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

ohhhh.......o.k. I get what it does now. I was trying to get it to do it like the other one did, just by left clicking. I never even thought about right clicking. My brains been on vacation for awhile. I'm hoping it comes back sometime soon :o)

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Hey Dave, since I know you're watching this thread.....do you know why my scroll wheel won't work when I am using Firefox? It was working just fine and then a few days ago the scroll wheel wouldn't work. It works in all my other programs, but not Firefox. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Never mind, Dave. After being frustrated for a week and going back to IE, I finally figured out what was wrong.

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

I have a couple of Q's that I can't find answers for.

Is there a button like on IE that lets me go to full page view w/o scrolling on to the View button and then selecting it? I guess I'm lazy and IE has spoiled me all these yrs.

Also I find that the tool bars take up so much page room. In IE I could scrunch them all together on one line by clicking and dragging. Can I do this with fire fox?

THANKS for any help!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

It told me okay was spelled wrong! LOL Matter of fact, it just told me again!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Okay....hehehe...that's cus it's persnickety, Badseed!

It prefers you to write OK, not Okay! (Methinks it doesn't like the drawing out of syllables...it makes you sound Southern! :>)

Shoe.

Sign me the Dictionary Teacher, cus now I gotta teach it to allow "cus" and "hehehe", too!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

terryr, you may have to uninstall the older version, then install the new one. Some computers, are just plain picky about that.

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

No, it installed over the old one. It said it was looking to see what add-ons I had that were compatible. All were I guess.....coz I've still got the google toolbar and the java script thingamabob. Ha, that's funny. Thingamabob is word? It sure isn't underlined! :o)

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

My google toolbar is gone also. I wonder if it wasn't spyware anyway.

Okay, spellcheck says that google, toolbar, spyware, okay and spellcheck are all spelled wrong. Hmm.

Oh, and Hmm is also spelled wrong. LOL

LOL is also spelled wrong. I guess I can't spell worth a hoot.

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

Now why did mine do a search to see if my add ons were compatible, but it appears nobody else's did? Why do you say you wonder if the toolbar was spyware? I got mine straight off from Firefox.....?? The one that has a search, pageRank, ABC Check, AutoLink, AutoFill etc etc??

Toolbar is underlined, spyware is underlined, google is now underlined (ah it wants to capitalize google, big g, not little g).......don't worry Joan, you're not the only who can't spell!

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

LOL. Thanks Terry.

I don't know that the google toolbar is spyware. I was just guessing. I know some toolbars are spyware. but not necessarily the google one.

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

I actually wonder about the yahoo one. My daughter installed it, I complained so she uninstalled it, yet it's still here. You know how you highlight a word, then right click and tell it do a web search? I had it so it did a google search, now it's a yahoo search. I can't figure out how to get rid of the dang thing. And that was something it was checking if compatible, yahoo toolbar, google toolbar......

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

I installed Firefox 2 and it's working for me, the illiterate emailer and I've taught it how to spell, too.

Ann

Kellyville, OK(Zone 7a)

OK, I have installed firefox, now how do I use it? John

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I found this article on the google toolbar. It doesn't actually say it's spyware, but as far as I'm concerned, it -pretty much describes it as spyware. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,904096,00.asp

I noticed that I have that toolbar on my office compter, and I know I didn't download it.

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

Wow. I had no idea. Very informative article. I always wondered about that green line on the page rank, or even what the page rank was. Now I understand. I've uninstalled it. Thanks Joan!

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

I installed it and now it says I am having 'proxy server' problems. Oh gads....what do I do now??

Los Alamos, NM(Zone 5a)

I have installed a lot of software in my day and did finally get this one to go, but I had to search for a couple of hours in FAQs to find out where the installation file went after I did a download. I finally found it in windows temp and learned how to find it from the FAQ ( Go to start menu, click on run then type %temp%) That was a new bit or trivia for me. Then the installer popped up, I clicked go and everything was okay. It installed perfectly once I found it, but the installer was not on my desktop as described.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Thanks for providing that link, Joan. I found out about the Google Toolbar being spyware awhile back from my DH's place of work and immediately got rid of it. We had a Trojan horse on our computer and I blame that on the toolbar. I went looking on the web for something to get rid of spyware and found Spy Sweeper. We like that one a lot and run it every night!

Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

I must be getting old.

I don't have Firefox installed now and I truly don't feel like installing the newest version, either. I could probably do it but learning new add-ons and fighting with the program to bring back features I enjoy, like my Google toolbar is just too much for me now. I have other things to attend to first. Thanks for the heads-up. Maybe one of those days.

Sylvain.

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

Lately, I've been having problems with my computer running incredibly slow. I've done various things to get it to run better, but nothing was working. After I uninstalled the google toolbar, it's running like it did before. Which is fast.

mgh, can you give a link for Spy Sweeper?

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Ok so can ANYONE answer my previous Q? LOL!!

TIA!!!

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

berrygirl, I guess I don't understand what view button you're talking about.

terryr, here is a link: http://www.webroot.com/ We did the free version for awhile and then decided to subscribe.

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

mgh,
In IE you just hit the 'blue arrow button'- its called "Full Screen"- to get the full page view. That button is not available on FF. You have to click on the word 'View' and then scroll down to get that effect. Like I said, guess I'm just lazy- lol!

Thanks for the help!

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

mgh and all:
Here's the full screen icon on IE toolbar:

also mgh I responded to your dmail- rather badly describing it- LOL!!
