Your up early Gram! I was thinking we needed a new thread, but you beat me to it. We don't mind looking at your Aster again...it's beautiful! Did it rain up your way yesterday? It poured here and we have some people who saw funnel clouds in Maine, They are investegating the possibility a tornado touching down in North Berwick, Maine. I guess the damage warrants them to see if it was a tornado or micro burst. The weather also caused a car pile up on the I-95 yesterday afternoon.

Gram,
Do you have any fo theses.."Toad Lily" they are the cutest things. Mine just opened yesterday, Al's opened a few days ago...I just love the unique little flowers!

Pixie ~a fairy~, don't have any of thoses yet, but they are on my 'to get' list. such pretty purples, you know I can't stand it. it's been raining here some everyday, but nothing that extreme. I have 20 plants left to get into the ground (dh made me count them...kept asking 'how many do you have left to plant', i'd answer 'just a few'...told him if I had multiples of one plant I was counting it as one). so if the wind and rain lets up just a little this weekend, I'm done til the bulbs show up ;0)

the tiny bits of sedum mediovariegatum I got on sale from Wayside earlier this summer are in the ground and starting to bloom :-)

Gram ~ I really like that one! Never seen that one before, the flowers remind me of little stars.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Pixie - you were worried for days about your toad lily weren't you, looks similar to mine.

Gram - that sedum is nice - that's a light greenone?

So I take about 30 shots of this moth for 4 less blurry ones.

the sedum foliage is variegated (hence the name 'Mediovariegatum', I guess, think they could have come up with something a little catchier?). I think it will be really pretty when it grows up.

al, at least the moth stuck around for the 30 shots...classic fall pic!

pix, I meant to tell you I really like the self-portrait. you must have caught that one in the winds from that storm LOL

Gram, and anyone else, I put some pictures on the Photos Forum and thought you might find the 'credits' on the last one interesting.

Gram, is that ALL 'woods pink'? It looks like it might be two different colors but it might just be the light. I'm turning into a person who really likes asters. Everything else is so orange and yellow and brown and orange and black and fall-colored.

Nancy, no credit here, but that is a gorgeous collage. Your pics are all wonderful!

Carrie, you've got a sharp eye. the little bit to the left is 'Wood's Purple'. I planted the purple behind the pink because it was supposed to be a little taller. Not only is it shorter, it's smaller overall and blooms earlier, so it's kind of lost back there, but very pretty. the bottom one in this collage shows the purple at the left a little better.

Hi, everyone...
well, to be honest my garden is pretty empty ( all I see is grass and possibilities....lol)

I have been looking at an antique rose catalog and playing with the idea of getting 3 roses... can you believe this???? I am in trouble... but the pictures are just so wonderful...

Gram, is sedum easy to start??? I am not sure I did it right, but I forgot a cut of sedum in water and I saw many roots today... I planted in good fluffy soil... is this the way to start????
I am going to send you the pictures of all my cross sticht and crochet via email today... I have so many pictures...

this is what is blooming today.... my minis never fail me!!!

Very pretty pictures, Nancy.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Kassia, this is my first time with sedum, but it must be easy, because mine is doing well. I actually bought these plants, but they came as tiny dried up bare-root pieces. I potted them for a month or so to get some roots on them before I put them in the ground and they're blooming, so I guess it was the right thing to do.

I love the way the roses change color as they age. it's like having more than one flower on a plant. that's so pretty, Kass. can't wait to see your needlework. now, take a deep breath and repeat after me....the roses will still be there in the spring...just concentrate on school now!

anybody wanna see my new baby trees...7 dwarf conifers planted last week in my heather garden (they're a lot more expensive than they look LOL)

Thanks Gram... I was about to order the roses...

I just emailed you the pictures... 18 pictures, so it may take a few minutes for you to get it...

you have no trees at all at your new place???

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Loretta! Thanks!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Kassia, Thanks for the nice tour last thread! Are the first group of roses you posted all David Austin's?

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Kassia, we had no trees at all (or anything else but mud) when we moved in 4 years ago. We have planted some trees. But I am working on a collection of dwarf conifers in my heather garden. that's where these were all planted. here's a pic of part of the heather garden with one of the new babies, a japanese snow pine 'Tani mano uki'

Dave, you mean the ones I want to get???
so far I don't have any David Austin... I plan to get some... NEXT spring... (I have to keep this in mind!!!!)

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Hi gram, Hi Kassia! Someone else is awake!
Kassia, Yes, they were the first group of roses you said you wanted

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Dave let me check... I am not sure... my criteria has been Hybrid perpetual, very fragant, hardy for zone 5 ( I figure that they should be better for us) and color (of course), disease resistance and repeat blooming...

as I was studying the catalogue from Rose emporium I also discovered that they are old roses... let me look at my list again...

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

dave, so far the only one I know for sure is Reine des Violettes... Souvenir de malmaison (doesn'r say it is) and barone prevost is not,
angel face is weeks ... I am not sure I understand this yet...

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Boy, you guys have been busy. I love the pic of the Toad Lily. It is one of my favorites. I have two varieties in my yard.

Another favorite....

Pixie, Your first one looks like the cosmos was making a butterfly sandwhich (with a beetle on top) I like it!

Wellington, OH

Someone asked me if they could bring their pots of mums inside for the winter. These are new purchases. I didn't think so - but I really have never tried it, so am not sure. I put them in the ground and about 99 percent don't come back next spring. Could anyone help me on this?

Thanks, K

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Kayellen, just once I had one mum come back the following year... other than that, my dog nino pee in one of the new ones I planted and has killed it already...

Wellington, OH

Kassia - Awwwww, what a shame....but I know it happens :)

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Dave,
I like that one too, but the first shot should of been the best. I saw 2 monarch's, each perched on their own flower, side by side. I focused, froze, fumbled, and got a great shot of the 2 cosmo's they WERE sitting on!

The Bee's have been taking full advantage of the rebloom on my little shrub.

Pixie, your butterfly pics are very nice!! I am especially fond of the third one.

Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Pixie,

All of your pictures are really nice. My favorite is the one of the cosmos alone. It looks like a painting.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thanks guys! I like the cosmo's alone too but I still think it would of been better if I had caught the two Monarch's on them!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Nice toads Anita - they are such good gardeners.

I'll resort to cheating and post this fall picture.

Very cute Al! They're not related to you are they?

I'm cheating too. Finally got my camera to download its August pics.
