Just wondering, I love cottage gardening and am surprised there is not a forum for it here, unless I';m missing it totally.
Maureen
I don't see a Cottage garden forum here - am I missing it?
Hmmmm. I'm always surprised we don't have one, too.
And I'm surprised there haven't been any replies to this thread. Maybe it's just the wrong time of the year, and people aren't thinking about planning or tending a garden when autumn and winter are fast approaching for most of us?
Thanks for replying Terry. I know on Gardenweb it has a huge following on the cottage garden forum.
Thanks
Maureen
I'd love to have a cottage garden forum.
As would I. Great suggestion.
Me too...although I don't stand a chance of having one, I do like to look at the pictures others put on of theirs!! Jo
I just saw this. I'm planning a cottage garden. the plan is one of my winter projects. so I would love a forum. there may be a lot of folks who use their area forum or the perennial forum instead.
Maybe if we get enough people asking they might start one.
How do you define a "cottage garden"? I am assuming that it is one that contains annuals, perennials, bulbs, and shrubs in a casual atmosphere. If so, that is what I have. But I assume I would still go to the specific forum for expert advise about a particular type of plant (roses, DL, Hosta etc) I think this would be good for seeing interesting combination of plants and garden design. Patti
bbrookrd - yes, that is exactly how I would define a cottage garden. And like you said, it is really great for seeing interesting combinations and designs.
Maureen
Gosh I have nothing BUT cottage gardens here!!! Who knew? Sure would be fun to share in the bleak midwinter.
OK - I'm in. I love the exuberant & casual look of cottage gardens!
Cottage gardens always say "Home" to me, and I, too, would
love to see a cottage garden forum.
I would like a cottage garden forum.
A cottage garden is what I always seem to end up with too. Comes from wandering around the garden with a trowel in one hand and a new plant in the other looking for its new home. lol Count me in too please.
carol
Does anyone know what is required for DG to begin a new forum? It might be worth the inquiry and see if they'll begin it.
I'll be there a great deal too.
Jude
I think if Terry the administrator see's alot of replies she may start one.
There's no "magic number" or quorum/minimum (we used to have a very low threshhold - back when we were just a few thousand members, it took just five "me-too's" to get a new forum started ;o)
We look at two factors:
1) Is there an existing forum that could be used for the proposed topic. (If it's not being used, we have to ask "why not?". And if it is being used, we look to see if the subject is is overshadowing all other discussions in that forum.)
2) We monitor threads such as this to see if there seems to be lasting, sustained interest in the subject. (Some things are trendy, seasonal or otherwise "flash-in-the-pan" - they generate some initial interest, but after a few days the interest wanes rapidly.) With 200 forums, we're not so quick to jump in and create a forum as we might have been in the past. We'd rather take a little extra time at the brainstorming stage, rather than act impetuously and then watch a new forum quickly sink to the bottom of the activity rankings.
That all makes sense. Now, (laughing) when do we get a cottage garden forum?
Patience, grasshopper, patience.
rofl
LOL
I'd rather be the troll, if nobody minds.
Here's hoping cottage gardening will be next on the new forum list. I'll be watching!!
I have my crystal ball here and, as the mist clears, I see...
it looks very promising!
Now I know where my crystal ball must have gone. The shop I took it to years ago for rapairs vanished one night and the CB was never seen again. Treat it with kindness and it will reward you many times over.
Trolls don't have crystal balls do they? lol They aren't alllowed!
Now if you were a grasshopper, that would be a different story.
Hey hey, who makes the rules around here anyway? If you don't pay the toll, you can't cross the bridge!
Hmm so how many cottage gardeners actually live in a cottage (bearing in mind a house which is small to those of you in N. America is usually rather large in comparison to ours ;)
Running and ducking hehehe
Running and ducking was a very wise choice.
Not all your homes are small, ask ol' waht's her name with all those ugly hats! (gotcha)
Not me, baa. But my gardens all seem to organize themselves in that fashion.
We have new home on 45 acres with a blank slate everywhere I turn

Baa....can you show us your cottage and gardens?
Troll, I didn't mean to stir up any trouble. I'll pay your extorsion fee.
carol
I like my hats!
Thanks for the offer just4 but I have a get out of jail free card in my wallet......... just in case
"Not all your homes are small, ask ol' waht's her name with all those ugly hats! (gotcha)"
I haven't got you Pweelee, who do you mean???
Justfurkids
We don't have a cottage garden, (not just because we don't live in a cottage ;). We don't really have a garden as such, it's an ad hoc area that holds a plant collection.
come now, the lady who lives in that house with the guys in the furry hats out front.
I too pretty much do cottage gardening, even tho I make plans for otherwise, just seem to end up being cottage type gardens, so I would be interested in a forum for that.
Donna
Furry hats ugly hats??? No idea what you're getting at.
I think I'll stick to gardening chat, I never did fancy becoming a milliner.
Great look Debin.
Baa, millinary suits some but not most. Right, sticking to cottage gardening is best
That's great Jo, I wish Icould do that here. trying in my own humble way to create something on that order, kind of sort of...... well maybe not like that but lots of green and flowering stuff of many varieties.
