For those of you who still have jobs (and have weekends off) Happy Friday! To the rest, good morning and I hope it's a great day for you all.
We came from over here http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/650796/
Coffee and .... for Friday, September 15th
Well, I see that I am the first, 12:5 am here. Have gotten caught up on all the "watched" threads, am am ~~~~~ good night to all.
You are just a night owl Bonie, just like me but I am off to bed now
CARAT, you have to bring your new/old friend to a round-up. Maybe she will love it and become a gardner if she's not already one.
This is cool, I'm reading about tomorrow, and here, it's still Thursday night...I don't usually use the computer this time of night. But, sure looking forward to Friday morning, coffee and DG..Have a great day.

Ha, Just got done posting on the other thread. Knew I should have posted here instead. lol
I'm pooped, night all.
Kelly
Hi GG,
It's ok to post on the other thread - we read everything! You sure did a thorough job posting to everyone. Good to see you!! :)
I though I was going to get the family room cleaned out today. DH needed a ride to Sioux Falls to pick up his pickup. The tranny has been slipping and they were checking it out for him. Got a call that it is shot, $1500. for a rebuild or if it's too far gone to fix, $1600. to drop in a rebuilt the guy has in his backroom. They spent most of yesterday pm working on it before they got to the tranny. Put a bunch of parts in it, drove it around, more parts, more driving, etc. Decent guy, no charge for yesterday since he said, "I didn't fix it". So DH will drive it as is for now. Be really nice if it lasted till spring.....please? pretty puhlease? lol
Maria - I'll have a big piece of pie - that's one of my favorites!!
Oh, just remembered this... a guy at a booth at the fair was selling abt a dozen kinds of preserves and he had Black Currant Jam. Yum, yum! I asked him if he grows his currants, and he said he imports them from Lithuania. wow! well-traveled berries! I told him I made Black Currant Sauce and he was very surprised - didn't know anyone grew them over here. He said they have the most anti-oxidants of all fruits. That was good to know - hope he's right, that means I can justify my almost nightly bowl of icecream with Bl. Cur. Sauce, right? hmmm, wonder what the icecream is good for? calcium? ha!
Back to my day - spent the rest of the afternoon looking at and pricing trucks. I think we have decided on one of two - either the one we saw in Coucil Bluffs on Mon, or one we saw in SF. Called the guy in C.B., DH wanted to run down last night, drive the truck and run home again. Man, did I not want to do that! It's 3 hrs. down to Council Bluffs. Salesman said the price was going to have to be more since something was wrong with the engine and they tore into it yesterday. They might end up doing an overhaul and that would add abt $10 to $12,000. to the price.
So that knocks it out of the running and we plan on putting our name on the SF truck tmr. We hope we can run it for a year before we have to do the overhaul. It'll be just under $35,000. for a 2000 Pete. Also, I want to get a truck from the salesman in SF because he is a good friend and we've never bought a truck from him yet. Seems he looks and looks and finds us private sellers. That's great for us but all he gets is raspberries, tomatoes, peppers and black currant sauce! He's not complaining, tho. :)
The plan today is to move DD until noonish and shower and change and either ride with cousins to visitation or DH will go too. Kinda depends on how far we get with the moving. I'm dreading going but feel the need to be there. Nothing one can really say, just show you care by being there. No word on the autopsy results yet.
I made supper and ate a brat - first meat since Mon. The diver... crud is acting up big time - too much stress the past week, I'm sure. Tues was bad again but settled down a bit Wed. and Thurs. - down to the sore, achey but can function stage. Taking antibiotics and hoping and praying it stays at this level or better or they'll postpone the surgery until it's less inflamed. Almost completely blocked right now...bad, bad, bad. Drinking lots of fluids and eating a soft diet to try and get me thru till Monday. Definitely high time this got done!
I crawled in bed abt 8 pm to relax and read a book and fell asleep before 9. Now I'm wide awake. DH is snoring, lol, gonna take a bit to get back to sleep.
Good to see you are home safe and sound, darius.
Looking forward to those Japan pics!
Loved the EEs pic, Deanna. I bought my first bulb on clearance at WallyWorld and watched it anxiously for a few weeks. Decided it was a dud and had rotted and forgot abt it... a couple of weeks later, a large leaf was towering over the hostas and I never saw it coming. ha ha! It has abt 5-6 leaves now. I LOVE it! I'm gonna get more next year. Do you did them after the first frost? or right before? and do you cut the leaves off at the top of the bulb or leave the stalks a bit longer? (told you this was the first time I've grown them) and how much sun do your's get? mine are in full shade and I wondered if more sun would be better? thanks! :)
Oh, almost forgot, glad to hear your hubby has some options with the foot treatment. That's good news. Terrible that it has to be done that way -- this wonderful country needs a better system. Period!
One of these days I'm gonna be smart and jot notes as I'm reading posts but so far, no smarties here. Hope I didn't miss anyone that I wanted to support or commiserate with or cheer on. :)
gonna try grab a few more zzzzzzzzzs
Laura
Morning- foggy day here and many schools have a delay (DIL's has a 2 hr one) I used to love those delays, but it threw the kids into a tizzy.
Slept awful last night- tossed and turned - my pillow felt like a rock and I just couldn't get comfortable. Should have gotten up and done some worthwhile instead of laying there thinking how miserable I was.
After h/f today, I'm getting my weekly treat of a cappiccino!! Bad for you, but once a week is ok.
Gosh, you've all been so chatty...and my computer isn't working properly and won't let me open yesterdays page, so I can't remember what to comment on...
I'll go peruse some other forms and see if it decides to co-operate!!
Good Morning, all!
Laura, You've got a couple full days ahead of you! Sounds like the weather will cooperate, at least.
Ouch! That's a lot of moolah for a truck, but really cheap for a Pete, I would imagine. Neighbor just bought a huge dump truck--100 grand. oil change, several hundred, new tire-$399.98. I could go on and on. Then add the high Deisel costs and all the insurance, etc., etc-trucking is not for the faint of heart.
So glad you're getting Med. care, soon. It's such a bummer to be down. We pray your relatives will gain comfort and peace from your family's support.
About the EE's, you can wait till after the first freeze, but I usually try to do it a little before, after the first frost "melts the tops." I cut them off 3-4" above ground, dig them up, clean them off good, and store in a breathable basket in dark warm closet.
I have some in deep shade, partial shade, and the ones by the garage get 6 hours full sun (morning sun), but are in shade after 1pm Water, water water-that's the big issue, especially when the "Ears" get so big.
Darius,
I hope you slept like a log, last night. Sounds like you had a LOOOng day. what goodies(from storage) did you rescue. Hope everything was as you left it-and no damage to anything.
Bonnie,
How's Mr.B? Hope he's getting relief from the itching! Poor Sasha has that problem, too, off and on.
Maria,
Sad to say, it really takes much time to regain your strength after having pneumonia. Please take care and don't overdo.
Carat,
I'm with you on the light thing.
I remember when DH and I first got married, seemed like he was always turning lights off, in the wintertime, that I had just turned on. I took it for a couple weeks, then told him, in no uncertain terms, to STOP it. Those lights were critical to my sanity, in dark, dreary weather. He didn't understand it, but is supportive of my needs, Thank God.
In the winter, our nutty neighbors(grin) refer to our place as "The lights in the East"!!!LOL
I just tell 'em, "Laugh, you fools,, I'm the only SANE one in the bunch!!" hee hee.
Time to start slapping that pavement-it's a beautiful morning for a walk!
Later, Dudettes!
Deanna
Morning everyone. Foggy here as well. Had a big blow-up last night. Ds & DD decided to fight over who got to be on the computer and DH got into it. DS *****'d me off royally. I think I'll just remove everything DH has given him and see how he likes that. If it were'nt for Ed he wouldn't have 85% of the crud he has in his room. DVD player, Vcr, 32" tv, skate boards out the wazoo. Okay the skateboads are my doing but he wouldn't have them if it wasn't for Ed. I'd be still working, and child support would go to support and not extras like skateboards, trucs, wheels grip tape and what not. He's absolutely no right to be so selfish and rude to a man who has treated him as his own. He's more of father to that kid than his biological ole man could ever be. Heck he's only seen him once in 10 years. Last year at his grampas funeral and his dad didn't even know him or my other son. He WILL apologize today or the will be h*** to pay.
Okay, sorry bout that. I had to vent and I apologize for venting on here. There's so much more here that needs to be worried about than the selfish antics of a 15yo brat.
Hubby brought me home 3 mums from work yesterday. I don't know why they never come back for me. He has brought them home this is the third year now. A gut at work brings them in for his wife and sells them any who, I've planted them and they get lost over winter and never come back up. but he's so proud of himself by getting them for me I haven't the heart to tell him that if I wanted them I'd go to Wally world and get them cheaper than what he pays for them. I'll plant them and enjoy them now but I guarantee that won't be back. they'll end up going to plant heaven by spring.
Deanna loved your EE's. Mine didn't get quite that big but they are planted in containers. Next year I think I'll put them and the cannas in the ground and see how they do. I'll just have to remember to dig them up. In containers they are right on the patio where I remember oh yeah those get taken out and stored. In the ground............if I forget I'll just get new ones.
I'm thinking about starting the cleanup early. Would be nice for an Indian summer that lasts about 4 months then spring can start early and we won't have to think about ice and snow and temps beloww the comfort zone. Dreaming I know but just the thought of shoveling snow and de-icing the drive and the sidewalks are so depressing to me. I like snow Christmas eve and christmas day. After that I want it gone.
Need to get more coffee brb Cherie

Good morning folks,
Bonnie - you said you are in Eastern time zone. Is your state split into two time zones? My friend in Bowling Green is in Central but I thought most states tried to use just one time zone for the whole state. Maybe not.
Maria - I'm a night owl too, but DH shames me into going to bed earlier than when he's away.
Kiska - you're new to this thread aren't you? Please tell us more about yourself. My sister lives in Palmer, AK. Maybe you know her - Charlie Sartor.
Kelly - that's OK posting on the wrong thread. At least I found it. LOL
Kooger - sounds as though you've had a stressful busy day. Relax a bit and take care of yourself so your surgery can go ahead. Yes, I know. easier said than done when you have to help DD move.
Hi Deanna.
Cherie - go right ahead and rant. Better here than somewhere you might regret it.
~~~~ to anyone else who's out there. Hope you all have a good day.
Ann
Peasoup foggy here too, Sarv. Supposed to lift, and I see a glow over my neighbor's house and no smoke, so it must be the sun. You must have lots of self control to limit cappucinos to one per week! I use those flavored creamers in my coffee, and haven't had a capu for a long while. I used to pick one up on my way to golf, but I had to stop because they closed the "real" restrooms, and now just have those portapotties which are so revolting that I'll dance my way through the last four holes to avoid using one.
Maria, the dahlias look gorgeous. I might have to try them again, but I just hate digging a plant in more than once. I have to take out the EEs and Caladium this year too. I don't know about the shade thing for Clematis, we always mulch around our plants, and that's shade, right? Didn't save mine. I'm just the clematis serial killer.
Elaine, I hope the weather is good enough to be outdoors. Probably more passersby stop at an outdoor one, because they can see canopies and such. That would help sales quite a bit. You should put your link up again for our newbies, you make such beautiful things.
Deanna, how lucky you are to have such a vigilant guard cat. I'm afraid ours would be useless, they are incapable of roaring. Stomping all over us in bed doesn't seem like it would deter burglars or home invaders.
Bonnie, my burger fantasy didn't work out. Still was just a hamburger. In fact, if I had been served that burger in a restaurant I would have put them on my "don't ever eat there again" list. The only thing that kept it from being completely inedible was the big slab of Vidalia I grilled with it. Gotta clean out that pool, huh? You mean to tell me that fisherman DH of yours doesn't have a pair of waders tucked away somewhere? Poor Mr. B, he reacts like the kitties do when it's time for meds....whether it's pills or liquid, they just hate it, and I'm the bad guy so I get the fisheye everytime I approach them. And the resentment takes a while to fade away. Maybe more treats? Or since he likes a car ride, do it in the car? LOL OK I'm out of useless suggestions here.
Ann, looking forward to seeing your travel pics. Are you putting them on your website? You do such a nice job with your flower pics.
Carat, imagine reconnecting with a friend after 18 years....and now you'll be moving away! I highly recommend those lights, especially for reading or needlework, or anything that involves intricate handwork. I might have to pop for another one so I can stop dragging this one around from room to room.
Kelly, the sun was coming in at that low angle that shows every dust mote, cat hair, fuzzball etc.. and once I got on a roll I couldn't stop myself...In fact, I figured out I was kind of ticked off. When we had dinner with those folks from work on Tuesday, one of the women, used her "poor little me" voice,and said "Oh, Mike, my brakes are squeaking again...can you help?" That set my teeth on edge, after my go round with him this summer about my head gasket repair. (He told me he would do it, and then reneged and spent a week helping his useless half brother sell his junky car. Cost me over a grand to have it done.) I looked over at her and said, "If he can't work on my car, he sure isn't gonna work on yours!"
My hosta are so fried I'm tempted to cut them off just so I don't have to look at them. I won't do it though, as the leaves help protect them through the freezing temps. They sure are ugly though.
Mary, I was thinking along the lines of using a paperpunch for the tulip marking, you know, one hole for pink, two for yellow, three for ruffled!! I had them planted in groups before and now thebulbs are all mixed together, waiting to be replanted..
WS, you've been pretty quiet lately. Has the house clean up been completed? That was such a charming house, I'd love to see it fully restored, but I guess once it's sold we won't be able to see the final result.
Kooger, that's a major expense, trannies are always costly and a lot of work.
The reference to a "pete" means a Peterbilt, right? I saw a bumper sticker on one once that said "Old Truckers never die, they just get a new Peterbilt". Thanks for asking about the EE's, those were my questions too since I've never had them before. Maybe next year mine will get much larger, it took them soooo long to sprout.
Darius, we're waiting for details on your road trip...I thought guys always went from point A to point B. Your brother must be the exception! My DD went down to Indiana with her DH to pick up running boards for her van, (shipping was more than the rb's) She drove down, and he drove home, which she said made her nuts! She's used to driving the big van, and he's not, so she's watching him and trying not to back seat drive.....! Well, she sort of tried....
Where's our IO1? Get back here girl and tell us what's going on!
Cece, go ahead and vent, we all do it. Better than getting out the 2 X 4, teens are unreasonable and really know how to push your buttons. And are chronically ungrateful...make him grovel!
Time to hit the shower. Still foggy. What to wear? Sweat shirt over a tee, it's sure to warm up and I don't need a repeat of last week.
Later,
Sheila
Edited because I cant speel.
Eveybodies pictures are so pretty. I sure do enjoy seeing all the success'
Now if that made any sense I'm pretty proud of myself. Yesterday I took a whole bag of iris roots to the Salvation army Thrift Store.[the manager is my friend]
Any way we figured she could try to sell them and if that doesn't work she can give them away. Otherwise I'll just throw them out. When I thinned them out a few years ago nobody wanted them and they got thrown out. It was so wasteful.
Also had a bunch of green beans and took half of them there for the food pantry. I was hoping to have more produce but that didn't work out this summer. Will try again next year.
Will someone send the alien to my house. The laundry monster needs company.
Bow hunting starts this weekend. DH will go to his brother's to hunt. Our 40 acres and deer aren't good enough for him. He has always done that. I think he feels that they are pets.
Deanna your gaden looks so manicured and gorgeous. Mine just seems like a wild mess. I especially like the herd. Might have to try them again. Could be 2nd times the charm. Love your kitty. They have such big hearts. Heard mine in the porch talking a bit ago.
kooger hope the move goes well. Helped move my sister a lot so know how much work it is. Don't over lift.
Have to go and check to see if the alien has arrived.
Can't remember who all posted and what. So have a good day and hope all problems are soon worked out.
I was just looking out my window before going to get breakfast and saw a set of fawns playing tag. Mom was out of sight. How special! It lasted about 5 seconds but that was long enogh to enjoy.
Ah Vicki.........you are so lucky to be living on 40 acres where you can see stuff like that. I would love to be able to look out my window and see fawns playing even if it is only for 5 seconds.
Grovel???? he'll do more than just grovel when he gets home from school and finds all boards trus, wheels and grip tape suddenly gone wiped out of exsistence. I'll just tell him that the alien was here and he must of took'em.
Yeah I need to shower and get busy with my errands for the day. I kept the car for .................I forget why I wanted it now but it will come to me all at once. Oh yeah errands, food, cleaning products...bank..... Bank?:) Steins...................that will make me feel better Just to LOOK really just to LOOK.
I want to start looking for that something special present for the DGB's #1 b-day next week. I'll probably end up with b-day and christmas for the next year in the back of the car. Such a sucker for toddler clothes and toys. They're all so cute!
Best be gittin'er done. Hope everyone has a wonderful day gets accomplished what they plan and every one healthy and happy or on the road to recovery. bbl Cherie
Back from my garden walk- oh my dahlias are so gorgeous this year. I planted 40 of them in a bed next to my flowers. They are blooming their heads off.
Yikes, news break - school bus roll over - took several to the hospital, but no fatalities...scarey... Seems a vehicle lost its brakes and ran thru a stop sign and hit the bus.
cece- teens are incredibly selfish and self centered - can't see farther than their latest CD. He'll get thru it - just hang on. Mine were awful, but turned out decent in their 20's (I still get ticked at them tho!!) I would try to eek an apology out of him tho!! -
ves- I hear you about the deer hunting. DH doesn't hunt-altho sometimes I wish he would just to get him outta the lazy boy!! DS hunts and he just told me that his boss said he couldn't have the day off this year - he teaches and they have trouble finding subs. DS said half the kids aren't there anyhow, so why not cancel the whole day....didn't fly...
Carat - what fun discovering a long lost friend. I had the same thing happen to me. I was our back yard, gazing at my flowers and saw this person walking back - it was a friend I had in high school who recognized me -(how from the road?) but anyhow it was fun seeing her. We took up yacking like we were still in high school!
Kooger - that's a wad for a truck!! My pocketbook would be empty!! Be thinking of you - attending the funeral...hate those darn things. In fact, I've told all my family that under no circumstances do I want one.
M5- sun is shining here, so you'd had it some time before me. I'm putting shorts on for the last time today!! Then I;m packing away all my summer duds. Then I'm outside for the cutting marathon!!
Welcome to Kiska- join the group and give us the low down..Someone needs to put another leaf in the table - we've got a big group for coffee now...
Well, I've off to the sweat house to laugh and crunch a little.....
Good Morning folks, have done the usual morning routine, coffee/paper, and before starting my day of work, or non work haven't decided, thought I best see what everybody is up to. At least you all talk a good game, LOL
I guess I will start the process of closing the pool down. And no M5, no waders in this house, but it is a good idea, may make a couple of calls to see if I can find some, as that cold water doesn't really appeal to me. I think I will try your suggestion of putting the drops in his ears while we are in the car. Maybe that would make him not want go for a ride?
Kiska, welcome, please tell us about yourself.
ViAnn, yes, Ky. has 2 time zones. I am in the north central part of the state, and you don't have to travel far, to get to the other zone. Glad DH is home safe and sound.
Darius, we want a blow by blow of the trip.
Deanna, is Sasha a dog or cat. I know you told us about the cats, can't remember if there is a dog that lives there too.
kooger, wow, that is lots of moola for a truck. I know that they are expensive as I have a DBIL and sister who have a trucking company.
cece, don't worry about the rant. If I had a 15 year old, I would probably be writing from jail! Child Abuse charges.
Ves, that is so nice about the fawns. We have some acreage too, and we see all kinds of wildlife.
Sarv, is the computer problem an existing one, or is it something different? Sorry about the soupy fog there.
Maria, yes, I am quite the night owl. I don't even attempt to go to bed until I feel sufficiently sleepy.
ws, good Idea about Carat inviting her friend here. Always room at the table for another.
GG, looks like you jumped back in with both feet. Glad to hear that you got that tooth taken care of. Bummer about the customer who had to tell you about the horrors of an infection. We all know that is possible, but don't like to hear things like that when we are suffering the same thing.
Well, gotta get moving. If I failed to speak to anyone, sorry, will try to better later.
~~~ to all, and hope you have a good day.
I wish Sheila ould send me some of her sunshine. We've still got fog and lots of it, though now I can see at least 5 houses away. I am suposed to drying my hair, going to the bank and getting stuff accomplished but while in the shower I began craving an egg and cheese sandwich. I made that , ate it and now back to the lazies. I've got all day to get it done and I do better under pressure.
defoe I used to think that too. When DS#! was 15 he had quite the attitude also but he was working and buying his own stuff DS#2 thinks I'm supposed to just hand over money to him when ever he asks. I told him once to go out and pick it from the tree out back. I'm just upset that he said things to Ed that were not ture and very uncalled for. Lets see him ask for a ride to one of the skate parks now. When he has to walk to Delafield or Brookfield he'll be singing a whole new song.
Hello to Deanna, Kooger and Sarv. also a hello Kiska, ViAnn, Maria,wg Carat, GG and Darius.
Darius do we get to hear about your trip?
ViAnn Pictures of your trip put together yet?
I really go to go....... Okay here I go I'm turning off the computer now Bye Cherie
Good morning.
Kelly, it is good to have you back. Your life is as busy as ever.
Kiska, I lived in Palmer when I was about 8, that was about 1950. My sister went to Palmer this summer to look at the town again, she couldn't find our house but did find the school which is the Borough building now. I started 3rd grade there. She said the hotel is still there but I was thinking Baranoff all these years and she said Matanuska. Which is it? I remember that the whole town took refuge there during a big storm, everybody just brought their Thanksgiving turkeys and stuff and finished cooking them in the hotel kitchen, the bar was open nonstop, all the kids ran up and down stairs and halls and went totally wild, it was a great place to play hide and seek. I think we all just crashed in the hotel lobby when we got tired, I don't remember anything about being in a hotel room.
It's 36 here this morning but less wind than yesterday morning so it won't feel too bad, unless you ask my corn, tomatoes, squash, cucumbers and green beans. My few dahlias have just been blooming a few days so I hope this doesn't discourage them. We always seem to get a few nights of cold and then it warms up for 3 weeks. I might get out the garden blankets to put over a few vegies.
My yellow kitty was sure wanting to come inside last night. No dear, you sleep in the barn now. She and AmandaPanda got into a fight a couple of days ago and now I am doctoring a puncture wound on AP's side, and the bad stuff settles in a pocket below it. I have a syringe that I use to squirt hydrogen peroxide into the hole, she hates that part. After that is cleaned off I put triple antibiotic into the hole and hope she doesn't lick it off for a while. Twice a day. I've treated other cats with this system and eventually they healed up but I sure get cussed at while I am doing it. Yowwwlll.
Today I need to go check on all the neighbor's cattle. That will give Breezy a little exercise. I also need to ride Patch soon but might wait on that in favor of getting more done in the yard. Parts of it are starting to look good. Yesterday I hauled composted manure and started spreading it, but it will take lots more. I'll probably be working on flower beds until the snow flies. I do that every year and never get everything done. Speaking of snow, we could get some on the mountains in the next few days. No, no, no, I don't want snow! We would only get stray flakes here but it makes the air stay cold when the snow is falling in the mountains and I have so much to do outside.
Time to get dressed, feed the horses, get some breakfast and take Fritz for his morning walk. Yesterday I wore a jacket to do that!
~~~ to everybody. Have a great day.
Good Morning... I slept in, I have picked up a bug somewhere and feel like crap.
Our trip: We stopped, and stopped, and stopped, LOL. Stopped for breakfast. Stopped for gas. Told DB I wanted to stop for cheaper cigs in Asheville and he blew up, saying we had a plan that didn't include any extra stops. Then he calmed down, and it got overcast and cool. So he stopped at a Walmart for a long sleeved shirt. Then we stopped at an overlook so he could take pictures. Then on through Asheville where we did stop for cigs but they were more expensive.
Then on towards storage, stopped for a sit down lunch, steak for him and a baked potato for me. He has eaten as much since he's been here as I might eat in 2 weeks! Then DB saw a Harley shop and wanted to stop for a Tee shirt, which we finally did on the way back. Got to storage, loaded all we could in the truck, including MY COFFEE POT! He saw another Harley shop so we stopped there for tee shirts, stopped for gas, stopped for more photos, stopped at the first Harley shop he had seen earlier for more tee shirts, got to Asheville and stopped at the bank and then the Farmer's Market, 2 stops we actually planned! Back through Tennessee, stopped to feed him again, and finally got home, quite late. I'm still bushed.
For a man that wanted no extra stops, seems like we stopped everywhere!
We haven't unloaded the truck yet, but he got the smoker out of the barn and is cleaning it up to smoke the baby back ribs for supper tonight. He's going to smoke some corn too and I picked 3 gorgeous big Brandywine tomatoes to slice and there's still enough shrimp for shrimp cocktails.
He wants to take the bike and explore Hungry Mother State Park nearby, and the National Park several miles away. I don't want to be out in that much wind so I'm trying to duck out. Besides, I have about 100 plants to get in the ground, not counting the 300 Canterbury Bells seedlings I started.
I need to go helpp unload the truck.
BBL when I can read all the posts above!
Well, it is break time for me. Started the day by cleaning the front door and patio door. Then the windows in the kitchen/dining area. Needed a hammer and screwdriver, and DH had taken mine from the house. Grrrr, he has enough tools to build a house or work on vehicles, and I can't even keep the basics in here. So had to go find some in the garage, plus get out a ladder, which DH had put in the corner of the garage, and piled stuff in front of it, making it impossible to get out until moving the debris. Me working and doing anything around here involves more "but firsts", and takes me twice as long!! Okay my rant for this morning, notice I have reserved the right to rant in the afternoon and evening. Put the shock in the pool, have the vac ready, but will wait a bit to see how much it warms up. Gonna start hauling the patio cushions into winter storage. Have some pots that the occupants have vacated, so will get them cleaned and stored. Dang it M5, you are a bad influence on me. No, I would rather start the fall clean up when I can be out in the sun and warmth, instead of in jacket, and yukky weather.
Wow, Mary the thought of snow is not an appealing one. They are saying that our temps for next week will be in the 40's. Sure hope that we have some better weather after that.
cc, better get it moving, the day will be gone before you know it.
Well, break is over, so back out to do some more stuff. May even pot up some of the sweet potato vine today, to try to overwinter, ditto for the wandering jew. Does anybody want some of either or both?
BBL
Back from exercising- only did a slip shod job today - exercise buddy wasn't feeling well, so neither of us broke a sweat. My itchies returned there with a vengence and I spent the entire hour raking my arm. Got home and iced it and it feels great now. Lesson: carry ice pack with me...I'm sipping a delightful cappiccino now....
Darius- phew - all that stopping....have you ever rolled your own ciggies? My neice does that and she says it saves her tons of $$ - gave up puffing, so I have no need of that now. Sounds like your DB has a harley hang up - how many shops does he need to stop at. Well, I guess we could all say that about garden centers...I want to hit every one.... How long will he be staying with you?
Mary - the weather out there sounds mighty chilly. It is glorious here today - 70 and going higher. Supposed to be nice Sat and Sun too - then the cold nasty stuff returns. And the dreaded 's' word too....not ready for that for sure....Ouch poor AP with that wound. You are lucky she lets you doctor it up!
I still want to round up a place to put some extra hostas and daylilies. Maybe today will be the day to get it done - I just can't seem to get my hinney going lately...
Better head outside while the sun is shining!!
Hey you've been chatty this morning. Will have to go back and read, but for now, here is the link to our pictures - http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/651625/
Not on my web site as I have no more space. Will be back later to read.
Ann
Sarv, I bought a machine to roll my own cigs, plus 2 pounds of tobacco and 2 cases (200) pre-made cig tunes with a filter attached. It's messy but cheaper. The box is here somewhere, just haven't found it yet. I should just quit but I'm addicted!
Bobby will leave here Sunday morning, stop for the night in SC with his great aunt and head for home Monday.
BBL, still haven't read today's posts. Took photos of our ribs and the smoker but cannot download them until I charge the battery.
Sarv - let's see some pics of those dahlias. I only grow the ones you can start from seed, because I can't seem to get them through the winter.
Mary - interesting the number of people with a connection to a small town like Palmer. Doesn't sound like fun treating AP's puncture wound.
Darius, WHO'S plan didn't allow for extra stops? LOL Good luck unloading the truck.
Have whiled the morning away. Must go get dressed and do other things. Have a student who may need me to help look at a viola this afternoon that they may buy. Have other potential students coming this evening.
The Korean ringer who left my group has agreed to play for the wedding; so I think we will be OK. I was mostly worried that since it was a holiday weekend she might be away.
Okay, in for lunch, had a blt, was good, I know that the tomatoes are not gonna be around much longer, so doing all I can to enjoy them now.
It sunny and up to about 78 today, so instead of getting in the pool today, I put on the solar blanket, and will wait a couple of days, the water will warm up, and it will be much more comfortable then. Deflated all the floats, and water toys, that was a job!!, Have them out on the deck drying so that they can be stored. I have all the cushions from the front porch and the deck put away, so it has been a productive day so far. Chopped the sunflowers down, saved some seed heads, I have about 3 that are at least 12" across. Does anybody want sunflower seed for next year? I have the pots ready to put some sweet potato vine in, will get that done before the day is over.
Well, gotta go, as the day is too pretty to waste. Will be back later on.
good morning, yes, as relatively new member, I've enjoyed reading and learning a bit about DG "people". Thanks for the welcome. I, too, am surprised at how many have a connection to Palmer. Sorry,but I didn't recognize the name of your sister, ViolaAnn.
We, my husband, 3 small children, moved up to Palmer, from California, in 1978. We now have grown children with spouses, and a total of 9 grandchildren. They all now live here in the Palmer area. 2 of the families are in Palmer, and the other, here just a mile/half away, near us. We live across the Matanuska river, Smith rd, for those that may remember. (Lazy Mt.)...Only 3 miles out of Palmer.
MaryE:The hotel you referred to, is probably the Valley Hotel, as it's the oldest. in 1978, we "lived" there till we found a house about 6 weeks after arriving. I'm not sure what had been called before then. The area has grown and changed so much in the past 10 years, that we are lucky that Palmer is trying to maintain it's small town character. The outlying areas are being developed at an amazing pace. It's actually hard to accept the visual changes; at least, above ground-level, the views are as spectacular as ever.. family life has been my hub and, now, being gramma on call, makes my day...
Brrr. It's raining a little now but I need to force myself to get out and do something! But first there is this.
I was going to send this to IO1 by email, and then somebody else asked to see it, so I will give the link here and you can all go read this amazing story about the guide dog that lead the man out of the WTC before the building collapsed. Lots of animal lovers here.
http://www.guidedogs.com/news-Hingson.html
Edited because I forgot to say that after you read the story there is additional information if you look to the lower left of the page, one click will show you all the guide dogs this man has had since high school.
Rats,drat,darn, for crying out loud, and other epithets. After weeks of lifting, hauling & carrying big slabs of broken concrete, cement blocks, wheelbarrowing loads of dirt and screening same without a problem it seems pulling and cleaning a clump of rhubarb has done the job on my back. Made it through Immy's last Obedience class yesterday,barely, and have till next Thursday before the new session begins in which to heal. (thank goodness for leftover codeine pills) The carpenter isn't scheduled to arrive till monday and the appointment with the cardiologist isn't until Thursday afternoon so that means a whole weekend to recoup, but who can sit still for a whole weekend ? not me. DW and friends are off to Saltspring Isl. in the Canadian San Juans for the weekend so it will be sort of lonesome here. Fall is in the air and the sunroom ceiling has to be insulated, re-wired and re-sheeted before I can bring the Brugs and other young plants in for the winter, and can't do it with this old back like it is. Just another example of what I WANT rather than what I NEED. Looking around, there are so many wonderful things I've been blessed with that dwelling on a couple inconveniences seems downright ungrateful.
22 replies so far, and I can't even fathom all the conversations from yesterday, so hows a body to respond ? You better take care of yourself Darius, hear ? Good luck with the 'truck fixin' Kooger, Sarv, as you know, ice cream is a cure-all and only adds to one's state of well being, all the better with black currant sauce. Mary,Cherie,Ann,Marie,Spirit,Defoe,Kiska,Kelly,Deanna,Meezer,Ves, and anyone I may have missed, best thoughts and wishes for the best of all possible days.
I'm in a funk.....burned all my 06 pics to cd's - trotted off to Sam's to get pics made and their machines were all down...plus their prices went up...drat. Bought two bags of bagels as a consolation. Thought about going to a couple of plant places, but decided I had better skip them as I always bring something home...stopped at Wendy's on the way home and had their new chicken sandwich - not bad...Passed on the ice cream tho Bal!
Bal - impressive room. Sorry to hear that the old back is giving you problems - probably screaming at you to slow down!!! I love the butterfly in your window - is that stained glass? Friend of ours published a butterfly/moth book and I just got a copy of it - awesome. He has boxes and boxes of mounted butterflies too. I have to bring in my 30 some brugs and many are taller (and wider!!) than I am. I may have to whack them back to managable sizes, but sure hate to do that! I have a ton of tylenol with codine from my last surgery- took two and got sicker than a dog- would rather have the pain!!
I'm staring at three buckets of tomatoes that DH picked for me last night- should get busy with them, but have no energy for that kind of thing. Maybe tomorrow....
Vi- I'll try resizing some dahlia pics..
Love the Dahlias Sarv, especially the iridescent one. BF is stained glass. Used to collect them, wish I still had them, though I think the killing jar, pins, board, tags etc are still in the attic somewhere. Wendy's soft ice cream, now in chocolate AND vanilla, is a treat that goes well with their new chickie sand. Hope the funk floats away.
Just a quick note - finally heard what the 15 yr old died from. It was a seizure. He had no history of seizures and no other family members have them either. His feet were tangled in the sheets and his upper body was hanging outside the edge of the bed. The worst case scenario as his tongue went back and choked him. (FYI -never try to grab a seizuring person's tongue, turn them on their side. You can lose a finger trying to keep the tongue forward manually. The jaw locks and cannot be opened.) So sad for his family. His mom remembers hearing an odd noise and now believes it was him seizuring. She's going thru the ...if only I had checked what that noise was...
ok, gotta go, leaving in a few mins.
Laura
Mary, Thanks for the link. A really interesting story.
balvenie - sorry about the sore back. I hope you can find something interesting to do while you let it recoop.
Sarv - thanks for the Dahlia pics. I really like the fluorescent one.
Kooger (Laura, I WILL connect the two eventually ) - thanks for letting us know about the 15 yr old. I hope his Mom can get over not checking the noise. You just never know with teens and more often than not, they would be upset to be checked on.
Ann
Defoe,
Sasha is my long-haired kitty. Actuelly, that's not so. She's her "DADDY'S" long haired kitty. She follows him aropund like a puppydog., and her favorite place in all the world is on "Daddy's" lap. She very seldom vocalizes-doesn't have to, I guess-just uses those big eyes of hers to get what she wants.
No dogs here-Kitty (the great protective lioness) wouldn't approve. It's "all about her",you know.ha
What a gorgeous day! Sunny, quite breezy, mid 70's. Ahhhh. Now, if it could just stay like this for awhile.
VAnn,
I checked out the pictoral of your trip to Japan. Wonderful, and the running commentary very professional. My hats off to that kind of talent.
Mary,
Rain, rain go away!
Sarv,
I enjoy your posts so much. There's "DEPTH and Spirit" in you, girl. And the Dahlias are fabulous.
Kooger,
How awful for the family, and as for Mom-I can't imagine her pain. I hope God gives her piece of mind.
To everyone else, hope your day brings you joy. Here's Sasha:
DeannaV (ps. Never noticed the filth on this screen until after the pic. yuk. It's all better now, tho.:-)
Awwww, Robert, the back is a bummer, SO sorry! I hate insulating and hanging sheetrock over my head anymore, probably hated it when I was young, too, LOL.
I saw my 3 skylight frames yesterday in my storage unit, but no room to bring them back. I would have liked to put them in the ceiling of the future workshop I am building inside the barn. They are Pella, and got delivered without the glass so I got them free. Glass (if not insulated) is cheap. I'm not doing a real roof there, just ceiling joists to hold the walls together and plastic over the top since it's inside the barn.
We got the truck unloaded and now I have my louvered doors so I can build proper shelving for all my food hoard in the pantry. Plus, I have my one shelf unit with louvered doors we brought from storage. I built it to size for canning jars, 2 jars deep and vertical spacing for quarts or pints, and I'll do the same for all the other stuff I have... One for vinegars, oils, etc, one for condiments and spices, one for pasta and beans and one for some store bought canned goods and paper products. Guess I know what I will be doing for the next month or more!
Haul from storage: 1 bird feeder and poles, a hoe and a stirrup weeder, my electric weed eater, 3 sets of louvered bifold doors, one tall food cabinet with louvered doors, 2 wide painted louvered doors that I have no idea where I got them, 2 short book shelves that will go in the office and hold the printer(s) on top, several fall jackets, coffee pot and the stuffed fabric Christmas tree I made for my mother in the nursing home.
DB has gone for a bike ride. I forgot how much alike we are, and one week of his company is about all I could stand in one year! He really is a pretty good guy, but like me, knows everything so it's hard to get a word in edgewise, LOL. I've had more instructions in 4 days than I've had since I was 8 years old.
On the other hand, besides the crab and shrimp he brought, he has paid for everything else excepting the gas for my storage trip and the baby back ribs I had in the freezer. All the groceries, eating out, 2 TV trays because I don't have a dining table, yada, yada. Actually I do have a table... 110 years old, but it's 8 feet long and NO space for it here, so it's in the barn.
Kooger, this brother used to have a big rig, I think maybe a Pete, but he got hooked on heroin in 'Nam and lost the rig soon after he came home. Thankfully he lost the heroin addiction too. He is now on 100% disability and still does PTSD group counselling weekly. I wear a big ring on my left hand... reached up to put my hand behind his headrest and accidentally hit the rear window with a loud clink. He about went ballistic.
So sorry about the cause of death of the boy. His mother will have a hard road to hoe.
Ann, wonderful picters of your journey to Japan, you look absolutely lavely in your kimono.
Robert sorry you hurt your back, just take care of it and don not try to do anythIing to aggravate it even more Your DW must love to travel, so do I.
How sad for the family, Kooger, why do things like that happen to youngsters?
Sarve, your Dahlias are outstanding, be proud of yourself!!! So get out of the funk! What was it that you used to fertilized? I never had them before, how do you store them? Please tell.
Bonnie, yes do not like the thought of snow either but loved it when when all od us went skiing in NH every weekend and vacations.
Sheila, forgot what I was going to say to you, but hi any way,so call me again, please!
Bought ( on sale for half price) a garden bench and two figures of a boy and girl for the garden also, you should have heard Samson growling and barking at it, when he discovered they they are there just for him to play with his tail went crazy wagging like mad, he is so funny.
Found some very old slides, remember them? Looked for them to give it to my oldest child, they were some pictures when she took ballet lessons at the age of five, do you think I could find them again? NOT, 12 hours later I remembered when I was so sick and had to see the druggist I left them there to be develpoed for prints, now how is that for being totally numb when being not myself?
It is a miserable day , rainy but we do need it. I must have done too much work yesterday, have sore throat again, runny nose and coughing once more, yuk!!
Cleaned my oven today, what a job when I roasted tomatoes , they made a mess of it. Don't like cleaning anything but an oven is the pits. DH used to do it for me, I do not like to use the self- cleaining always gets so hot I feel it will set the place on fire.
Picked some golden rod it is so lovely right now out in the pasture, could not resist it. I t even decided to move into the garden, among the Dahlias took all my strenghts to pull it.
bye for now ~~~~~~~to every one
Waiting for a rain shower to pass. Our temperature is waaaay up to 40 now.
Fritz and I walked the 2.2 mile round trip to the mailbox accompanied by a little shower and some wind. It was invigorating! I didn't spend much time standing still except when checking on the neighbor's horse who is walking a bit more comfortably. It will take a lot of time to get him looking and feeling good again. Part of his problem, or maybe all of it, is age related. He is probably in his middle 20's which is getting pretty old for a horse. His metabolism has apparently changed so he probably needs a senior horse supplement which his owner's daughter got for him. He got his first small feeding of that today just before I walked by, and so when I came back he was in begging mode thinking possibly there was more of that good stuff for him. He will need to be getting special treatment for the rest of his life, including separate pasture from the other horses so he does not have to compete for food.
Maria, your sinus passages and lungs might be aggravated by the dust from cleaning yesterday. When I sweep or vaccuum my hubby's system knows it, and he could tell if he were blindfolded because something is in the air. Do you have clean furnace filters? There are hepa filters available for most furnaces that catch the really fine particles in the air. I know you are restless but please let your daughter do the cleaning for a while more. It does take a long time to get over pneumonia and when you do too much you take a big step backward.
Darius your trip sure had a lot of unscheduled stops. How many Harley tee shirts does one man need? I hope you and your brother have a peaceful time until he leaves. So sorry about him having PTSS. It sounds like he has not had the ideal life, but then who has? Enjoy the good stuff and cope with the not so good and be thankful for a short visit. The ribs sound good, wish I had some. Did you get the coffee pot going this morning?
Kooger, do they have any idea what might have caused they boy to have a seizure? I don't know if something like epilepsy would come on so suddenly. We have a friend who started having seizures when he was in his 30's but he had mild ones at first. They were controlled by medication but it caused him to have to take an early retirement from the police department.
Ok, time to go outside and face the weeds and the weather. It is a good day for planting a bunch of plants that have been waiting for space and a cool day, so I shouldn't complain about a few showers. The forest fires in our area will be much more manageable with cooler temperatures and moisture, and it will be good for the pastures if the weather is warmer soon so that the grass will grow a little before winter comes.
