I love the double blooms. Here is something new I tried today. This mornings blooms...It is possible cool mornings affect the color of the blooms.

Gardener2005, those are really nice pictures of beautiful flowers!

Does the purple one here, http://picasaweb.google.com/lakemarygardens/91906/photo#4976630503263830034, have a name? Does it have yellow leaves?

I couldn`t see which one because it shows all of them at once. I put captions so then you can tell me which one exactly. I used a picotee with light leaves and some of my yogiros show lighter leaves than the others. The leaves came out light green but not quite the light yellow/green like the ukigumo.

There is one that does have the light leaves and I`m waiting for blooms on that one.

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

I have one that has light leaves also, here is photo of leaves, name of: Keiryu, but I grew it last year and need to dig out photos to be sure this is actually rightly named, it was a slow grower this year and hasn't bloomed yet

The one that caught my eye was the Picotee x Berry Ice, because it has a similar hue to one of my seedlings. Your flower is much darker though. Was the Picotee pod parent a "star flowered" picotee with white margin or a "circular flowered" picotee with white margin. What color was the Picotee?

Here is one of my newest yellow leaved seedlings: http://davesgarden.com/journal/edit/showimage.php?eid=104436

My pink purpurea was putting out some partially feathered blooms a couple days ago. The bloom in the front of the photo is how they normally look, behind it a feathered one and hidden behind that one is one that was only slightly feathered.

I`m a little worried the cold will catch up sooner this year. I`m glad I didn`t plant any more that I have already. I can tell the plants do not really care for the chilly temperatures. This is unseasonably cool for this time of year here.

This was the pod parent. I chose a pink picotee with light colored leaves and pollinated it with the Berry Ice. It appears larger than the picotee but smaller than Berry Ice and the color is in between as well.

Hi Gardner,

I'm hoping for a long growing season too! I've got several plants potted, so maybe I'll be able to move them to a more protected area when threatened.

Thanks for the picture of the pink picotee. You should get some very nice flowers from the seed of your cross with Berry Ice. Some of the star flowers from this growout should have a "pinker" throat because of that trait in Berry Ice! Tha deep color of the F1 would be nice also!

as you can see, the coloration is a little different depending on morning or evening shots, these stay open all day long, some into next day, too cool, I can't wait to see the what the cross does!

Very pretty Laurrie.
I like gardeners cross as well.

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Thanks for the compliments. :)

Laurrie, Those are beautiful pictures. I absolutely love the intense color of the Berry Ice!!! Next year I`ll grow out the pods off of these babies and see what happens. Meanwhile,I`m also working on getting some hand pollinated pods off the parents to try and get true seeds off my parent vines. It is tedious and time consuming.

I want to see the outcome with the Keiryu as well. I want to learn more about the different varieties and what they look like as much as possible.

LOVE the wide white edge on "Berry Ice".That flower just DEMANDS attention .This year i have gotten many unnamed picotees-none what they were labelled. The darker purple ones have a tendency for extra petals. All of them have VERy large blooms

Laurrie, looks like Berry Ice is a great performer! I really like the wide white margin of this one: http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=2742378

Is the second picture of a flower from the same plant? .....or... is that wide margin variable!?

Gardner, with the durability of the star flowers already, I wonder if the durability of Berry Ice can even add more durability?!! Should be fun!

golgi! they are gorgeous! Is the picture here, http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=2742897, showing the extra petals? They are on the ouside of the corolla....like we see on I. purpurea sometimes?

What great colors we share here! Thanks! - Arlan

Dundee, OH(Zone 5b)

I would have to go dig thru the vines, I planted 4 seeds, so they may be coming from seperate vines those with the wider margins, will investigate further tomorrow!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Golgi, Lovely, vibrant colors.

gail - these look so excellent together

tag this one with the extra curly Q's (and extra sepals)

Breezy - I agree with Arlan...I think you should tag those blooms and try to isolate that wide margin feature...

Looking Good(!)...

P.S. - It won't be too long before the Japanese et al will be looking to the US MG growers for the improved types...

P.P.S. - a few misnomers in the T&M catalog
Ipomoea nil presented as Ipomoea tricolor and Ipomoea tricolor presented as Ipomoea purpurea...

I am off today, I will "dig" into those vines, well root thru them and seperate them and tag them, there was one I looked at 3 am this morning, it's so pretty, need to go take photo of it............... here it is, gorgeous!

I'm just here oooohing and ahhhhing as usual. Love the Berry Ice with the white margin, so visually appealing Laurrie.

And golgi, the blue silk variant and that deep purple with (picotee?) is that the right word for the white edging - are both stunning as well.

Thanks to everyone for sharing and continuing to feed my adoration for these wonderful vines!

This has been a Wonderful thread and pictures. This is Good to read in the morning right before I have to get really busy. It gets the day going on a good note!

Ron_Convolvulacea, regarding the yellow mg posted on 9/14 I have some information about a daffodil yellow one for sale from turtlegabby on ebay, home and garden/seeds bulb. Or you could check auction 22006930621 which has expired. Not having your email, I couldn't just forward. But with this information, you should be able to archive up the picture of the daffodil yellow mg.

The seed pod of this specie is so large they are used as ornaments. When I was a child, I got one of these pods, and tore it open and found 4 enormous seeds. I planted one and at the end of winter it sprouted into a vine, but it never did bloom. The leaves looked like passion vine leaves. But this is a childhood recollection, not reliable. I just wanted to share this with you because I didn't have anything else to share. Thank you for posting the site of that french seed outfit, but geez louise, 28 euros? wow that is expensive. The photo doesn't move me that much. Frank

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

fchilders-frank - Thanks for your input...the ebay merchant turtlegaby is notorious for offering MG's that do not have the taxanomically accurate name...nor does she seem interested to make reasonable corrections...she currently has a photo of Ipomoea pandurata on one of her auctions, but provides Ipomoea purpurea seeds...it has become an automatic reflex for me to immediately click away if I see that merchants name...

You can post the link to any auction in question right here on the MG forum or you could send me a D-mail by clicking onto my name...

The yellow MG with the very large seeds is most likely Merremia tuberosa
scroll down to the links I added in the comment section
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/53475/index.html
http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/9256/

The Yellow MG offered by Hodnik is not a Merremia species...

Nice pics everyone! Finally got a decent picture of my Moonflower. Too bad it stated blooming so late...probably won't get any decent seeds.

Tbone I'm so jealous!! I haven't gotten a bloom and I don't even see a bud!! BOO HOO!! :o(
Nice picture!!

Racine, WI

Thanks. This is my first time growing them and I really like them. I didn't know how big the blooms could get. Quite unique!

Robertsdale, AL(Zone 8b)

We had a front pass through last night resulting in a beautiful morning. Here are a few of the smaller flowered plants that were blooming. All the pictures were taken about 6:30 AM.

This plant has very attractive leaves and a nice deep pink colored flower. On the underside of the leaves you can easily see the rust that has devoured most of these plants. This plant seems more resistant to it's effects...
