Want to call the Plant Police? Vent here....

Brig, unbelievable! And Bubba probably thought he was giving you great customer service when he yelled after you! ... And how did the diplomatic, customer service oriented Mr. Nardelli respond to this latest incident?

Blythe, CA(Zone 10b)

And that is why I bring the store number with me and my cell phone. The minute someone starts acting stupid I call the store and ask for a manager, if the manager isn't available, then the district manager..I keep going until someone helps me. They didn't like me at all.

BB, I'm liking that idea more and more, but it's a crying shame that customers have to endure such foolishness when they shop the BB.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Betterbloom ~ going prepared with cell and store number programed in is a great idea. Got a friend that will start at the bottom when calling to complain. The chatty cathy answering the phone wants to help, he says, you aren't getting paid enough to take what I'm going to dish out. She quickly passes his call on. He repeats it till he gets to the top! Works well...

Blythe, CA(Zone 10b)

I love it ! I'lll remember that line..it's great!

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

I haven't contacted Mr. Nardelli on this one. Yet.

I wonder if he knows about DG? Can we put Home Depot on the Garden Watchdog? It would probably use up all available computer space...

Blythe, CA(Zone 10b)

To bad we don't have his home nbr, we could interupt his dinner!

And we'll all shout through the phone "you folks have a nice day!' ;0)

I'm sorry I got to this thread so late, but so many of these observations hit home...
I moved in the past year, & decided on an experiment. When asked at a store abt my name or address or whatever (if I was daring to pay in CASH; that hard to trace green stuff), I gave my new address, a bogus phone number (it worked fine when I had it in Rochester New York 20 years ago!) and my dear, departed grandmother's name. It's very clear which stores were happy to sell my info to mass marketers-- whenever I get a catalog for Gran, I'm sure she appreciates it! Perhaps I should see what happens if I put in a change of address for her (please forward to 1996 Afterlife Lanes, Glowing Horizon, SKY.

LOL Goshsmom! I've added bogus titles or misspelled names to see who was
giving out my address. Its fun to see an envelope addressed to "Vice President
Tammy..." or "Chief Operating Officer Tammy..."

Tam

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Tammy ~ I agree. We attended a trade show a few years back. DH was Senior Partner and I joking gave my title as 'boss'. You wouldn't believe the "JUNQUE" mail I got!

San Francisco Bay Ar, CA(Zone 9b)

Try using your pets's names. My mom had a Westie named Miss Bonnie Highland. Bonnie received a free box of baklava and a coupon from Swiss Colony among the numerous catalogues. She got more mail than my mom! My cat, the lovely Lady Loki, also receives quite a bit of promo material via the USPS after I bought her a subscription to Cat Fancy.

LOL! That is cute indeed! ;0)

Blythe, CA(Zone 10b)

Maybe Lady Loki will also receive a pre-approved credit card..wouldn't that be nice!

San Francisco Bay Ar, CA(Zone 9b)

Lady Loki has received many pre-approved credit card applications. I shredded them before she could send one in. My freezer is not big enought to hold a whole tuna.

Blythe, CA(Zone 10b)

jhow funny!

Scott, LA(Zone 8b)

I am going to throw a wrench into this conversation. Do you have any unusual pictures that you just can not throw away? Well, try sending them in the return envelope when you pay your bills. The electric company, phone company and credit card companies get a good laugh and they don't care about throwing them away. If a company sends me a bunch of junk mail with my bill, I just send it right back with my payment.

I've heard of folks sending all the ads that come with your bill back with the
payment. never thought of sending goofy pictures!

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Works great if it is a prepaid postage envelope... (( grin ))

somewhere, PA

I love it!

A friend of mine went on a campaign to get off all the mailing lists. She even won a battle
with the postman about delivering those flyers everyone gets. She said she gets NO junk
mail now. There's a website you can register with (I haven't done so yet. I might lose out on
a wonderful nursery catalog if I do this afterall LOL)

DH says he must receive mail or he wouldn't know who he is... This week it could be current resident or maybe, occupant or how about boxholder?

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

I've got a good one: This afternoon I went to WM. Looked around the nursery for a while, then walked to the cashier and asked her where the bulbs were. Her answer: "In the electrical dept!"

Edited to add: I am referring to the cashier they have stationed in the nursery area, not just any ole cashier, the nursery cashier, lol

Funny, that was a good one. I hope you didn't need help on gardening.

LOL

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

: ))))))

Idid the WM garden center tour yesterday and was amazed at the beautiful selection of flowers and plants. Unfortunately most were not houseplants or fall plants. I wonder how much they sell to the inexperienced gardener who will wonder why they don't have a green thumb! Why everything they plant dies!

Pod~ you're right, that's how I got my duranta erecta-sapphire showers! Yep, from Wally World, sold as a houseplant with the palms! I was ...OK still am a newbie, looked awesome so I bought it! LOL, looks gorgeous on the patio in the spring and summer. I did the research after I got the gorgeous thing potted up! Here it is blooming indoors again. IT is not even a plant for my zone! So as of now a houseplant when overwintering indoors. Just cut those developing berries off... Who would have thought! Good thing the plant police wasn't on duty that day. LOL! ;0)

My turn to vent. Bought a fantastic Tropical Hibiscus for 14.99 at Home Depot 3 weeks ago. It is doing wonderful. Went back to get some spray a couple days ago, over 20 Hibiscus were in front of their store all dead from the 30 degree temps we had for a couple nights. They still wanted 14.99 for them. Poor plants, glad I saved one of them. Why are these places soooo stupid?

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Absolutely, they would starve if they were an independent business rather than a chain.

Blythe, CA(Zone 10b)

come on now, we're talking HD, and you expect them to know the trees were dead!

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

The employees are dead so it's a good match!

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Knowing the trees are dead is one thing. Caring is another! It isn't Home Depot but the staff that is putting in time for a paycheck.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Sorry Bernie I posted at the same time. I agree on the employees. Rather like the military, if you are a good mechanic, they will make you a cook.

Blythe, CA(Zone 10b)

that was suppose to be a joke. Yes the employees should care but they don't...want to read what HD employees say? Some one told me how to hyperlink today but haven't tried it yet so I'll just give you the website: Retailworker.com ...go to forums. It's a forum for employees of other big box stores also.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

It's all about unions & people trying to keep their jobs, nothing about customers.

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

It's all about marketing.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Bottom line, it is all about the almighty dollar...

Springboro, PA(Zone 5a)

My sister is a plant murderer. She is always buying things and never getting them in the ground. We'll go to an auction pr sale and buy a bunch of plants and 3 or 4 weeks later they will still be sitting there on her deck. I'll stop by her house and tell her, "Sorry Sis, I'm taking this one with me. I have to save it's life." She just nods. She knows............

early_bloomer

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Ouch! I'm kinda guilty but with no sister, I eventually salvage them. Lack of time. I have all the inspiration I need...

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Wow. I'm agreeing with most of what I see written here. AMAZING! We always try to do whatever will benefit small businesses in the long run, if it doesn't hurt our wallets too, too much. Like, we buy milk from a local dairy (which delivers!). When we're travelling, we have an iron-clad rule: don't buy anything we could have bought at home. Mostly applies to food! ereH we have BurgerKing, Wendy's, Taco Bell, and stuff like that. We DON'T have In'n'Out, El Pollo Loco, yadda yadda, yadda. Remember when everything was different in different parts of the country? Oh, well. We're ALWAYS at one or the other of those two HDs! I buy terra cotta pots, mulch, 75% reduced perennials (cause I know what they'll look like in flower, and nobody there does)!

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

Maybe if I talk about it I will get over it quicker. Agh!
I went to HD looking for after Christmas bargains on pine, rosemary. Went to the HD on Grand Parkway. They had some pines labeled Living Christmas Trees displayed on shelves outside the nursery. When I went inside to ask for the price, the cashier replied "between $15 and $20". The conversation went downhill really fast after I suggested to her that an exact price might be very helpful. It scanned at $7.88. When I asked if that was the orig. price, she simply said "I don't know" in that tone that means I don't know, I don't care, I don't intend to make any effort to find out. I finally left the store before she could see just how ready I was to strangle her, lol.

I can understand being understaffed at Christmas, I can understand employees just not showing up for their shifts, but I cannot understand hiring people with such assinine behavior when their success depends on customer patronage. (taking 2 deep breaths here)

I wonder if a letter to the manager would make a diff. I got her name.
