What's Growing - Part 10

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

My Goodnes, I can't believe we need another one! I thought 243 replies would be real slow for any dial upers. If you want to see the previous thread here it is. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/645763/

Al, I didn't know there were bush morning glories. tis intriguing. I like them, but never wanted to be stuck with them for life, like pixie's dogs are LOL you sure you didn't get those flowers at the dollar store, too? they look like you hung them there like xmas ornaments....cool!

ok, nobody ever has any 'luck' with gaura? I've only had these a couple of weeks? I just thought they were pretty. what kind of luck do I need? are they tough to overwinter or what?

Kassia, is that a new mini...very cute

Nancy, your cards are so pretty...bottom right is my favorite :-) but I haven't mailed anyone a card in 5 years so I wouldn't be a very good customer (and that's also probably why I never get any cards in the mail LOL)

gram

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

gram - I know what you mean there. I had them on my Isle of Whight fence last year and pulled plenty this year. I think they are safe in a planter. Neter has them - how did you like them Anita? I actually got mine from Dena(yea yea who's that)

Cold and rainy day here today
I don't think I posted Chim Chimeree rudbeckia yet, mainly browner tones

Never get any mail, Gram? If you'd like to Dmail me your address, I'll send you some mail.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I have some cards made by another Dger I could send.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Hmmmm. Initials AB?

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

No, W.L.

Finally got you - you mean A.R.

I didn't see this and posted on # 9. Question was: What do I do with Jack-in-the-pulpit seed pods? And, nap, your cards are lovely? Where do you sell them?

Kay

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Kay, see previous thread for my response. And thank you!

Al, no, I guess I'm lost. I don't know whose cards you have. I just know they're not mine.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Al, if you're asking me how I liked the morning glories, I have to admit, I was abit disappointed at how slow they took. Only one seems to be happy and I might repeat in that spot next year.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Mine did well in their pot, been flowering now 6-7 weeks I'd say.

Daylilies are not giving up despite the frost!

Looks good. Frost? I'm going to bump you down to a 3b. No frost here for a month yet.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

My potentilla only blooms in the spring...do you pay yours extra???

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Al ~ We had a warning last night that some places in Maine would get as low as 28 degree's! It only got in the high 30's here but it was like a major dew shower on the flowers this morning.
Anita ~ I don't do anything to the Potentilla...maybe break a few limbs when mowing.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

hmmm, break a few limbs. In my dh's Sicilian heritage we refer to that as 'making a call to Uncle Sal' LOL that poor potentilla doesn't want to sleep with the fishes

what's this talk of frost, anyway? I thought we agreed winter is cancelled.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I was outside this afternoon and my cat Romeo kept getting in front of the camera as if to say "Take my picture" so I did. He actually seemed to pose!
Notice the "black eye" on him...he tried to kick some big dog butt! LOL

And the winner is.....Jake! See no black eye here!
BTW...im just kidding, thats not a bl. eye on Romeo...its his markings. Jake could put a hurtin on him..he just doesn't realize he can. Only 1 of my dogs is NOT intimidated by that cat, the other 3 will back down every time!

I miss my cats. They were such good company. Some day I'll have a dog. For now, I am not home enough. Love the 'baby' pics Pixie!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Anita ~ I know what you mean..I love my dogs but I am really a cat person. They do make good company, never complain, listens to all you worries and woes and then purrs and rubs up against you as if to say "it will be alright". I would have more but Romeo is not OK w/other cats...he thinks he's a dog. He's been around the 4 of them since he was 6 weeks old, he's 5 now so im not suprised.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

I had cats, too, Anita. One for 18 years and the other for 17. I'm not up to taking care of any pets right now, but I'll probably have a cat again some day. Love dogs, too, but they are too much work. Pixie, your Romeo looks like one I had...pretty face.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Romeo looks (and acts) like our Katie. She is fearless. We also have a housecat (declawed when we got her at the dog pound) named Oreo.
They are both too old to share the house with a dog. But we will eventually get one for our 7 year old.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Romeo looks like my Wallingford. Wally is part Bengal and a holy terror. He constantly is biting me and breaking the skin! If he wasn't a rescue and a bit "delicate" healthwise and if he didn't play the piano - I swear his cute, furry, purry, momma-lovin' hinney would be in the adoption shelter! He fluffs up at every little noise - even our other cat coming up the stairs frightens him. I don't know what he would do if he saw a dog! Here is a picture of him with his old piano - I bought him a new one with all eight keys last weekend. Got to teach him "Three Blind Mice". hee-ee

yank...he's not only pretty, but talented too!! Good luck with the 3 blind mice. LOL

One of my fall asters in opening up good now, this is Harrington's Pink

Gram- I had a gaura one year that made it through the winter- I think it was "Whirling Butterflies". It was pink. It came back the next year, but it was white. Then it died the next year.

If I didn't have my dog, I would probably go nuts. They are so great when you are feeling low. Always running up to you like you've been gone for 20 years, when really you just went out to get the mail.......

We just lost our adopted cat Fluffy (she lived down the street, but came to visit us every day) in June. She was 21 years old. She started showing up at our house 9 years ago. We thought she was a stray so we fed her, and she used to sit quietly under our deck and groom herself. Turned out she was going to all the houses in the neighborhood for handouts. I think she had 4 or 5 breakfasts, lunches and dinners every day! Last year, she only came over a few times, but on the day before she died, she came across the backyard to say goodbye. Sweet cat.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Yankee, you're funny.
Ivy, I feel the same way about Sidekick Sarah, my dog. She maintains my sanity.
Not much new growing around here lately. Sarah and I are on a diet. lol.
I pick cantaloupe every day, 2 days ago I picked 6. The neighbors love me this week.
Andy P

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Sarahskeeper - I bet the neighbors love you most weeks.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Now I know what my problem is...no pets to maintain my sanity. and no melons to give the neighbors, either. I'm doomed! LOL

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

We're doomed, we're all doomed I tell ya ! ! !

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

You are all too funny. I sometimes feel like I am getting soft and feel like getting another pair of cats. Unfortunately, I have family member that visit that are allergic, so I don't think I'll be doing that. I'm also afraid that they cutie would eat all my plants that I now have. My Midnite would eat anything in reach!

By the way, does anyone have any Blackberry Lily seeds in abundance that they would be willing to share? I have Candy lily, but I would love to add the black berry..

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Al ~ Your aster's are beautiful! I only have buds on mine...not sure what kind it is, will have to see if the tag is still there. Yup tags there..it say's Aster Dumosus "Jenny" here's a link to what it looks like: http://vivacemonde.free.fr/galerie1print05/pages/Aster%20dumosus%20%27Jenny%27.htm
If you click the link it will show you the picture with arrows to look forward or backwards. If you click forward you will see the next Aster I would like to own. 'Professor Anton Kippenberg' is the name and I think it's beautiful.

Here's what's blooming today:

Pixie - They're lovely. I want the big pink one one the bottom (dahlia?)

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Yes Kayellen it's a dahlia and I am kicking my self for planting them so late. I will only see a few bloom I think as it's getting cold here fast!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Pixie - did you have the name for that one? I figure you can put what you have in a collage and link in the name post you had and I can play the name game ;) Weren't you saying cosmos weren't the most photogenic..hmm.

speaking of dahlias - this one I don't have the name(maybe White Perfection) was the largest of mine this year.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

speaking of asters, I gave away about 10 Prof Kip's at the UMW roundup this spring, it is great - not opening up yet.

here is a new one this year 'Alert' , supposed to be red(hence name), not really - I have 3 all this color.

Al that might be Yellow Coronet. I bought several this year and was puzzled when they turned out looking like your photo. I thought they were more yellow, but all mine just have that yellow-ish center.
