What is this town?

Is it in eastern North Carolina? I looks fairly flat....with sandy-type soil.
It could even be south eastern Va.

Hmmm... It looks like early spring and the road is going slightly up to the left, so it isn't totally flat (and therefore not Illinois. LOL) Is it west of the Mississippi? Kelli, you did a great job of smearing the signs! Can I go travelling with you?!?

My husband pointed out the Smokey the Bear sign in front of the building, so it's probably near a national forest... Hmmm.. is it in Nebraska or the Dakotas?

I guess it's time for another hint. It is in the southeast quarter of New Mexico and is above 6,000 ft elevation.

The big white building appeared to be made of adobe. That isn't a hint, just some trivia.

The closest so far is still Alamogordo. Here's another hint. The town names that I blacked out on the road sign in the picture are Ruidoso and Roswell.
