Where Am I? - A Fun Game (I hope)

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

This is a game I made up. I hope it works and I hope it's fun. I will show you a picture of an obscure place and you have to figure out, 20 questions style, where it is. Using maps, you will narrow down where the place is. You can ask more than 20 questions, but I can only provide one-word answers, usually "yes" or "no".

Here's a site where they have topo maps. http://www.topozone.com/viewmaps.asp You'll probably need that. If anyone has any other favorite topo web sites, feel free to inform us.

Anyway, here is the place. What is the name of this creek/valley/canyon?

I have no clue, but wish I was there! =)

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Is it (looking at map of California...) south of the Los Padres National Forest?

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

The road [the Ortega Hgwy] goes between Capistrano and Lake Elsinore and the entrance to the trail along the creek is right on the Riverside/Orange County border. I was just being smart alecky. But boy it woulda been neat if I'd been right. LOL

Is it in the Santa Monica Mtns?

Loveland, CO(Zone 5b)

Whoa... I don't know anything about CA, so this doesn't count as a question... but kudos on inventing such a fun and challenging game! :)

Sarah

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

Cold Creek - No, but not a bad guess

Between Mulholland and the ocean - Yes

West Pottsgrove, PA(Zone 6b)

Alex, I'm betting it all, and this is my final answer ... Topanga?

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

The closest so far has been Malibu Creek.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Is it Solstice Canyon? I like the name. :-) We were in your neck of the woods last year (we went to Knott's Berry Farm and then went to a wedding in Ojai) and we REALLY wanted to stop in Malibu Creek State Park on our way back to the airport, but we ran out of time.

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

I love Malibu Creek State Park. I used to do volunteer work there.

No, not Solstice Canyon.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Does the first letter of the first word in its name start with A-M?

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Is an El Nido a big swampy area?
Is Escondido really hidden? the highway's right there.
Is point Dume indicated by the red cross on the map?

next wild guess, up the side road to Newton Canyon.

~~~waving
Peterstown, WV(Zone 6a)
Is it around Santa Margarita or Dripping Spring ?
L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)
I think nido means nest. To the east of this map there is a little community called Monte Nido and I am told that it means Mountain Nest.
I've never been to the Escondido Beach so I don't know if it is hidden or not. It might be that there are bluffs above it that hide it from the road.
The red cross is just the center of the map. Point Dume is the name the quadrangle that this map comes from. It's the point of land cut off at the map. (Yes, most people pronounce it like Point Doom.)
Newton Canyon is getting closer.
Santa Margarita or Dripping Spring? I don't see those on the map so I will say no.
Peterstown, WV(Zone 6a)
How about Zuma Canyon? Is that closer?
Joey
L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)
That's closer
Peterstown, WV(Zone 6a)
Is it close to Newton Falls?
L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)
Zuma Canyon is closer.
(Linda) Winfield, KS(Zone 6a)
Ramiza Canyon
Ramizez Canyon had to look up the spelling
