Yes, those gnomes that look like walking potatoes with sharp teeth are an interesting picture.

Could it possibly be nearby rugrats?

Potato gnomes, what the heck are you talking about gardenmermaid?! LOL!

Trois, nope, kids never come into our yard. Lost pets sometimes show up, but no kids. Hmmmm...

Kristy, in HP Chamber of Secrets, Harry goes out in the garden to help Ron de-gnome the garden. Harry mentions that muggles have gnomes too. Ron describes what muggles think are gnomes as "like fat little Santa Clauses with fishing rods". (that's the kind my mom has in her garden). The actual gnome that Ron pulls from a peony bush is described as follows: "It was small and leathery looking, with a large, knobby, bald head exactly like a potato. Ron held it at arm's length as it kicked out at him with its horny little feet..." Apparently the gnomes in the wizarding world have razor sharp teeth. That's the image that came to mind when you mentioned you thought you might have gnomes. :D Personally, I'll stick with the muggle gnomes.

I was thinking that whatever knocked your corn down and ate half the mushroom might have intended to eat the corn but may have been eaten by a hawk before it had the chance.
