Well, It is August 1, 2006, and my reign of "daily thread starter" is over, I hereby pass the flaming torch to VIOLA ANN. Good luck dear, and please don't leave those glitches, and bumps for us to trip over. Glad no one got hurt during my reign, and the last part was good sledding, and fun. IT IS YOURS!!

Okay, back to commenting:

cc: It is hot as the dickens here. Although I didn't venture out very much today. The kitchen was hot enough with all the canning I did. Sure hope you get your "wish list" and it doesnt take 10 years to do it. I have found the following techniques work here: If you want a pond, go out with a shovel, and start to dig. It may take 2 or 3 days, but DH usually says"what are you doing?" I say I am making a new ____ (fill in the blank). And he will promptly tell me, what all I have done wrong, and why, and will say, "here, let me show you". Thus, it turns out to be his project, and is completed in warp time. LOL, usually works everytime. Now the secret to this is never tell him that you got instructions here!!

susieq, so glad to know that the computer problem may not be your fault. Those computer grimlins usually travel in large goups, and they probably just stopped at your place to play havoc before moving on.

M5, just loved your description of bedmaking101, at your house!!. I did make the bed one day with Mr. B in it, and he slept there for a good while before discovering that he couldn't get out. You should have heard the moaning coming from that bedroom!! Since you think that J-be-terriers are so funny, I will be sending you one, and no you don't have to pay postage. This is a free and clear gift!!

Viann, your trip sounds so exciting. Is this a "fun" trip or otherwise? I can turn any trip into a fun one, given the right circumstances. I sure am glad that you are getting to attend all these concerts, and most free, except for the sweat equity. These will be memories for later in life.

Darius, so sorry that your helper didn't show. That is always so frustrating having your day planned, and then having to rearrange it for whatever reason. Have you talked to Molly? She seems to have disappeared from this site, and I am hoping that she is super busy, and not able to get here, rather than some life event that has interferred. If you talk to her, tell her I am asking about her.

Kooger, so glad that you are able to make it back. I know that life interferes at times, but we all wonder how Kandace and baby K are doing.

Mary, did you get all those chores accomplished? Your list just makes me tired reading it. Are you enjoying Fritz? Is he a hyper Jack, or one like my Mr. B.?

Hope everyone is staying safe during this heat wave. I do have outdoor chores tomorrow, but will be taking it is small time periods, plus will make sure that I have water with me. I guess that the heat wave is pretty international. Read yesterday that Scotland was at 80 degrees. That is so unheard of at this time of year. Last year at this time, it was about 60 there, and they were apologizing for the heat!!

Well, since I am later tonight, gotta go get caught up on some of the forums I am watching.

McCool and I had a good chat this evening. I had my days all mixed up, and thought it was Saturday all day. And to think that it has been in the recent past that I chastized my mother for not keeping up with what day it is!! This apple sure is not falling far from the tree!!

Well good night all, and I will join you in a few hours as a reader and participant, rather than the "daily starter."

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Good Morning - 2 am here and I cant sleep!! So got my self up and got on my laptop...with the AC roaring...oh will the elect. bill this month be outta sight!! Oh well..

defoe- congrads on completing the 'new thread' for us all. We really appreciate it!!

Speaking of Molly- where has that gal been? Hopefully she is busy painting!! Molly - if you read this, you need to check in and let us know what's happening!!!

Vi- sounds like you will have a fun trip!! But Japan? How did I miss that? Why are you traveling over there? For fun, relatives???

M5- golfing at that hour??? Oh, go for the perm - it will grow out if you don't like it. And in this weather a little frizz is better than limp, straight hair anyhow!! Mine is plastered to my head and looks awful. But I'm in and out of the pool and don't want to bother looking decent.

Oh, some little Mr B's!! Bet he's a satisfied little guy now. LOL at the 'locked in love' thing too - will have to remember that one!!

I have a hard time expressing my love for others- will have to be mindful to actually say something instead of thinking it!! DIL always says 'love ya' when she leaves her DM/DS, but they are such a fiesty group, that it seems to mean very little. "Love ya" after bickering just doesn't seem right!!

Well, off to peruse the forums.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 8a)

defoe~Thanks for all the hard work:) Mr. B's love story cracks me up!!! I too, want to see those cute little JaBeTerrier babies when they arrive....sweet little things they will turn out to be...coughcough...You had better keep it mum...what if Mr. B ends up having to pay child support! To keep from that, you will have to have custody of half of his little "miracles". Still cracking up....sorry!

Ernie~ How are things your way?? Did you get your planting done? Tells the Goldens Karen says hello...oh, and Linda too & first! :^)

Someone send me a meatloaf sandwhich...with mustard...mmmmm...haven't had one in so very long. Auntie doesn't eat red meat so we eat less and less of it. I do love a good meatloaf and mmmmmm.... cold meatloaf sandwhich.

Sheila~About the bed making.....that cracked me up...I hear my Auntie in making her bed sometimes saying loudly..,"Stop it! Don't you hurt me! Stop it I tell you!" I thought her little CC was bothering her with the bed making. Well,....I was changing my sheets the other day and my son's...large baby...Duke, decided he wanted to stay on those sheets. He started swatting at my hands, when I dumped him to the other end he chased back at me...little (large) devil! I found myself repeating Auntie's words. She's a bit nicer than I when she says them. That cat figured he could intimidate me like he does her...he did a darn good job of it......We say here, "We reward our pets for their bad behavior"...Mr. Duke likes to jump on his bar stool and paw off anything on the counter. He knows he gets attention and gets a treat. While my DD & DSinL were here he grabbed DSinL's Pepsi and got quite a surprise, that was funny to see. Duke has such personality...he really is quite spoiled. The youngest boy did that. What's that about sending the DGChildren home when they are naughty???? We have this one because...."Mom, I can't take Duke away from his home. He loves it here...what if he gets lost???" Well what if he kills us all in our sleep because we don't reward him??? The darn cat is so big and smart...he actually puts his paws on either side of the door knob and tries to turn it when we shut him out of our room. No opposing thumbs, you know. If he wants to wake me, he'll find anything he can rattle...mostly magazines in the basket beside my bed. He even learned to ring the Christmas bell on the door knob to go out. 2 years later we got that bell out and he still remembered it. It works quite well when he's home alone with Auntie...she knows when he wants out. We moved the bell to the outside so he could ring to come in.
Oh believe me, I did not want him going outside!! He stalked around here and drove us nuts! He would hide and dart as soon as someone opened the door...usually Auntie...he knew. So now I wait up for him to come in....crazy!

Maria~ No wonder you liked Ernie's Goldens! Your's is beautiful too! I love GR, great dogs. Are you enjoying your time home? It will be nice to see you again when you return:)

VAnn~ Your trip will be wonderful...Boy, I get tired just reading about all your adventures. It would be nice to hook up, if only for a moment when your traveling through. I could just find out when your at the border crossing, go to Peace Arch Park and say hello while your waiting to cross :^) No doubt there will be a wait. The good thing about the wait is, it gives you time to take pictures and see PAP which is beautiful this time of year. If your coming through on Wed., Sat. or Sun. there is a wonderful little farmer's market off the Birch Bay Lynden road not far south of the border.

My DSinL and I went out today to see our friend's new Mexican restaurant. I can't wait for them to open, his food is authentic and wonderful! DSinL is helping getting the waitresses started. I might even have me a hostessing job. It would be fun for awhile. I'll have to learn a few Seniors and Senoritas....don't know yet, have to talk to DH. I will be going out to help with chair assembly. DF's DB has hand made all the chairs and all the word working. DF has designed and built the place. It's great!

Picking up DSinL in am from tire shop.....working on Pinata for Family Reunion this weekend. We're making a hotair balloon and a dodo-bird, in pink...our family colors are grey and pink. First year color was yellow....DH's father's wife hated yellow....she nor her family were wearing yellow....(wait! aren't WE, YOUR family....she meant HER kids????) anyway...I did suggest maybe we should all wear black with little yellow happy faces....Went with pink Aloha shirts last year for the Hawaiian theme and in support of BC Awareness. Decided since she didn't like yellow we would stick with pink! So pink flamingos, dodo-birds, pink chairs......and grey for whoever doesn't want to wear pink. Grey and pink are good together....We may even throw in some yellow for good measure.
Picking apples too, to take to other Auntie & helping her pick her beans. She can't get the high ones and DSinL is tall:) Better go get something done before bed. Like put up the zuccini.....maybe I'll make bread so it will be fresh when you all get up for your morning coffee...wait! What about chocolate zuccini cake? Yes, ChZC it will be.
Good Day to all!
PS...Blast that nasty heat you guys have! I won't complain when it's hot here any more.

I haven't had a pet in so long, except for the koi in the pond. They may not sound like much of a pet, but they all have names and different personalities so we enjoy them. I do want a dog again. Not too large, but too yappy, either. I think a corgi is my best bet. Now if I can just find one at the pound or Humane Society.
I work both jobs on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and it makes my days very long. It makes for an 11-hour day, counting transportation time. But I love one job and the other one is o.k. and I work with a wonderful boss there. Yesterday it was slow so I fiddled around. We have a double-wide trailer for an office and it has a full kitchen so I cleaned in there and ran the dishwasher, trimmed back the dead blooms off the butterfly bush, caught up the filing, and other piddling jobs.
I normally don't work on Mondays but the secretary is out quite a bit with health problems and child problems. Her eldest son got back yesterday from several months at a youth rehab center. It's not for drugs but for getting into trouble at school; fightling, cursing teachers, taking cars and driving (he wrecked one) when he's only 14. His mom is the sweetest thing in the world but he can totally manipulate her any way he wants. She doesn't understand the whole concept of reward and punishment. In fact, when he's in trouble with someone else, she buys him things thinking he will be grateful and behave. It doesn't work that way. While he's been gone, his grandparents bought him a brand new Maverick. So you see where his mom got her concepts from. She has 2 other boys, ages 4 & 6 and I see the same problems developing with them.

Good morning,

Plan to go to aquafit and you all know I can't type very well in the mornning; so this will be short.

Sommer - I'd be interested in comparing chocolate zucchini cake recipes. I dusted mine off at my daughter's request and was astounded at the amount of butter/oil in it. Might try substituting some applesauce for some of it.

Bonnie - need to correct a misconception. Volunteers get in to the concerts they work free of course, but, depending on the job, don't always get to hear the concert. I work jobs where I can almost always hear. But the whole Festival operates on an affordable pass system which costs the same whether one volunters or not. I bought my pass (4 concerts will pay for it) like others. It's still a great bargain. And I don't have to go much earlier than if I planned to stand in line for the concerts. Ans in some of the churches, the spots that volunteers end up sitting are actually cooler than most other spots. Not to mention the social aspect of volunteering.

Japan - DH has a conference. I'm on holiday.

Have a great day.

Good morning to all. Woodspirit - I too haven't had a pet in years. youngestDD is allergic to cats, dogs, horses, even the guinea pig my son babysat for a friend of his last summer. I want to get a pond and have koi. They will be my pets. I only want two. Hermie and Cornelius. I don't think that is so much to ask.

I do love reading about the antics of everyone elses pets though. M5 description of bed making gave me a good belly laugh and I don't have that chance too often any more.

I don't remember who suggested it but if I were to go and just start digging for a pond DH would have a kynption fit. (I know can't spell) But I can buy the kiddie pool fill it with water and buy a couple goldfish, put my froggie fountain in and plug it in. No it'd be my luck he'd say there now. there's your pond. I'll just keep at him subtle like til it becomes his idea and I'll get a good one from the start.

Suppose to be another hot one. It was 84 on my patio at 6:30am. My patio gets no sun on that end til around 4pm soooooooooooo84 with no sun whats it going to be in the sun!!!!! Weather forcaster said 98 today so who knows.

Guess DH and I will be going to state fair on thursday (opening day) He took a vacation day at work to go. I can't figure out what he's up to. Last year I had to beg for a week for him to take a day vacation to go and this year he voluntarily does it. I never know what he's thinking or what goes on in that thing that sits on top his shoulders.

Well gonna go upstairs and bake for awhile while I look at the deadheading that probably needs to be done. BBL Cherie

Hooray! The HVAC guy called at 8 am and they were to be on their way as soon as everything got loaded. They have motel reservations for tonight just down at the interstate exit and will work here until the job is done. Since it is to be 100º all week, I shall be glad for the AC. It's so dry that I need to run the sprinklers today or lose everything.

I talked briefly to Molly on Sunday. She has had the flu plus had a job lined up to start yesterday.

The first batch of yesterday's jam seems to be setting up some, so I may not have to re-cook it after all. Will wait another day or three...

I'm soon off to work. Glad you are getting a/c darius. This is the 1st year since living in the mountains that I have had or needed it. About 3:30, the house gets too hot for me and we turn it on for about 3 or 4 hours. I dread to see my light bill, though.
I am reading the Wapshot Chronicle now. Very touching about life in a small and fading town and family moving to the city for work - took the life right out of them. I am curious to see how the younger ones will cope.

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Hey there, I haven't been here in a very long while. You guys crack me up with your stories about making beds and more. :) About the funniest thing I could tell you about "pets" these days is that our goats won't stay off the roof and it is a constant clammer up there! Also, there's no telling when 70 little piglets will run out from under a building or a tree and scare the fire out of one!

Farmers' Market today and it is supposed to be 105 with the heat index. I have been sick to my stomach all night long, but have to keep the market going. Not going to be a good day for me. I think my gallbladder is acting up again! Sure when I'm almost done paying the last bill off!

Have a wonderfully safe day everyone.

:) Kathy

Gravois Mills, MO(Zone 6a)

Darius-----I read your post about the guy that did not show up. That is a real problem for employers also. My son hire temporary workers and sometimes for a week are so at a time. One day he had I think 17 yards of concrete coming and none of them showed up and he had to do the whole deal himself. Last year he hired some Mexican laborers. I told him i did not like people hiring them. He said "Dad they show up and they work hard. Americans don't do that." when you stop and think about the Darius that is really a terrible pronouncment on the condition of our young people. My son pays well over the minium wage for help, and yet you cannot find anyone that will do manual labor. I wonder what young people think. One thing for sure they lack any work ethic.

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

ozarkian, that's so true about help. We have considered often hiring Mexicans that are around us, but most are illegals and they've really been cracking down on that around here. We have two good workers this year, but even now there are times when it is touch and go with them.

Farming is a tough career and no, young people don't want to do it anymore. Many just have everything handed to them now and don't feel like they have to work.

I am grateful that I taught my children work ethics and all three of them work very hard. Being raised on a farm is good life experience for later on as well, even if you don't farm anymore.

Of course, the generation out there now are the ones that were told by their teachers early on that if mommy or daddy spanked them that the police could come and take them. My daughter pulled that on me and I told her to call them, but have her bags packed. They'd be bringing her to a new home as well. She never threatened me with that again.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

LOL, Kathy! Several years ago my sister spanked her kid with a belt and the kid yelled so loud the neighbors called the cops. When the cops came my sister showed them the kid's room, the reason for the belt. The cop said he'd have taken a belt to her too if it had been his kid. No charges filed.

Oz, I'd hire anyone that would show up and work! I'd guess we have migrant workers, mostly immigrants, that go through here in apple season but I haven't found any. Most cities have a corner where men gather looking to be hired for the day, but if there's one here, I haven't found it.

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Morning All! Caught up with yesterdays posts and got a few good laughs. I always told my DD that the cats were free entertainment They'd run from upstairs down to the basement chasing ghosts. One time they were playing and one liked to jump in the bathtub.Well he got a big surprise!! I'd left the water in for some reason. We heard a big splash! The look on his face was priceless!!hehe0 I miss having cats in the house. But with DH allergies a dog is all he can handle.

woodspirit It's too bad we don't live closer. I have a friend who left her husband and has to sell her corgi. She's housebroke good with kids[she has 5 DGK] and not 3yrs old.

darius HAPPY AC!!!!!!!!!!

Was out for a bit this morning. Temp wasn't too bad yet but the humidity had to be 99% Back in the house to freeze beans and baby corn. Maybe a few peas also. Stuff just doesn't look as good with all this heat. Is it affecting anyone else?

BBL Vicki Hi to everybody else!

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, my first time checking in today. After coffee and paper reading (this is a must for me), had to ferry the car to the auto repair shop, the replacement mirror that I tore off a couple of weeks ago came in and will be installed. I have made 8 pints of sweet pickles this morning, and have just puttered around. I didn't get to the paper work yesterday/last night, so it has to be done today. Nothing else on the schedule that I know. Had to call all the folks that were to be here Thursday for the fish fry outside, because we have decided that it is just too hot. We will be meeting at the church instead, where there is a steady stream of cool air from the AC.

Darius, glad the AC people will be there. Sorry to hear that Molly has been sick. Hope she is feeling better to start the new job.

Hi Mistymeadows, glad to see you check in. Sorry that you are sick. Being sick anytime is not fun, but in this heat, it has to be horrible. Take care at the market today, and don't get overheated. I laughed about the goats on the roof, something that most folks know nothing about.

Well, gonna get that paperwork done, and bills in the mail, will check back in later.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

I made one run of jam this morning, have to put off the rest until they get all the new ductwork installed. Seems I'm underfoot constantly no matter which room I'm in!

Do you think they brought enough stuff? They now have the long parts of the ducts connected and insulated, ready to crawl under the house I guess.

Heya! August is off to a hot start here.... it's 98 degrees now and forecasted to get up to 103!! I do not want to know what the "comfort index" is supposed to be. Yikes. I'm staying inside where there's air conditioning. I did go out for a bit earlier to water things in pots on the patio... almost melted. Kathy, I'm sorry you have to tend the farmer's market in this heat... hope you're feeling better... be careful!

I've been using the "cool tie" that 1gardengram made for me, and I love it! If you've got any polymer moisture crystals on hand, check out the directions for making these at http://watersorb.com/polymer_cool_neck_bands.htm The "medium size" granules are the ones generally used for potting mixes, sold as "Soil Moist" etc at stores like Home Depot.... but if you use them to any extent, the prices are far better at the watersorb site. :-)

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Lunchtime, but it is almost too hot to eat!! I got a call at 10 this morning - neighbor's daughter who was here swimming yesterday, called and said the kids were crying that they wanted to come over- so I told her to gather up her kids and the neighbors and come on over. They are out in the pool as I type. I am not going in with them today - I'll wait for DH to come home.

They are opening 'cooling off' centers here for people to go to. That is a first. Plus they are canceling all kinds of things involving sporting events.

Our neighbors have their 87 yr old father living with him - and they don't have air. He has been feeling crummy in all this heat. I am going to ask him to come over and sit in our house for awhile. We have AC in our lower level and it is pretty comfortable.

Hey Darius- hope they get your AC installed ASAP - you will love it in this weather!! I bet the workers are hot working in this today!!

DH works where there is no AC. He comes home exhausted and usually grumpy in this weather. I can't blame him at all

Talked to DS/DIL and they are painting yesterday and today. They have central air and they said it was comfortable.

News just came on the some places here are losing power because of the high usage! Yikes...

Well, time to look for something for lunch!!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Hey, Darius -- I just bumped up your peach melba jam thread.... I really want to try a batch or two, so I'm hoping you'll share the recipe you've been using... http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/445183/

Pretty please?

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning. It's sunny, going to be warm enough, about 80 they say, we have some of the cooler air coming down from Canada for the next day or two. Yesterday I didn't get the lawn mowed so that is up near the top of the list today.

Meezer, your cats help so much! Funny to picture all of that action, and Sammy looking down into the washer until the monster started to move! AmandaPanda helps make beds too. When she was quite small she started drinking out of the toilet, I found footprints, so I watched for my chance, and flushed it at the right moment. That ended that.

It's hard to remember who said what, but I'll take a stab at it, maybe with interesting results.

Susieq, so sorry to hear that your co-worker's husband is not going to be getting well. I hope the time they have together is good, and that he can be fairly comfortable. It is so sad. Most of us have been spared that ordeal.

I'm glad I rasied my kids when we could still spank them. What nonsense parents have to deal with today, and the results are not good. I wonder when the pendleum will swing back the other way. Dr Spock sure did make a mess. It is sad about the kids of today being so lazy. My neighbor had a couple of boys working changing irrigation pipes, one was good, the other didn't do the job and then lied to him about it. No more work for that one. He had a Mexican man who was a good worker, he came up for several years and went back to Mexico for the winter, but he is getting old and didn't come to the US this year.

Cece, maybe the fair will have a pond you can look at, relax next to, etc. He might be thinking, don't rush him.

Defoe, BeeJay Terriers, they will have interesting looking ears for sure. No, I'm not laughing (much), mistakes happen. The OOps pups. At least with small dogs they won't present them a dozen at a time like some larger breeds. Fritz is semi mellow. He is in full terrier mode at times and pretty laid back at others. He can go from sound asleep to attack dog in an instant. I need to take him for another long walk this morning so he will be on the mellow side the rest of the day.

My neighbor brought a load of hay this morning, I think it is about 4 tons. It's tricky getting it in the barn but the truck bed tilts and the whole load is set down at one time. And hopefully stays where it is put. Today 3 bales fell off the top of the load at the back edge before the load was in place, but once they were moved out of the way the load was put down without any more problem. It's one of those "hold your breath and hope everything goes right" jobs, and usually we get the hay when I am the only one home. I'll post some pictures so you can see.

Ok, gotta go, back later when it gets hot. ~~~ if I missed you.

Thumbnail by MaryE
Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

The load is tipped back and the truck backed under the edge of the barn where there is less clearance, then the load is tipped forward again until it is almost level and the truck backs up to the rear of the barn or to the stack if there is already a load in place. You can see that there is not much room between the trusses and the top of the load. And the load is tippy and kind of unstable at this point. When it is in the right place it is set down.........

Thumbnail by MaryE
Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Pusher feet come out against the load and the truck is driven out from under it. The wooden poles are there to steady it until the load settles.

Good almost-still-morning, all. Teed off at 6:30, not another soul on the course, and we finished by 8:15 in spite of balls going off in all the wrong directions, and flies trying to bite us. By the time we got done it must have been 90*. Stopped at one of those family restaurants on the way home to have breakfast, won't stop there again, it was pretty awful. First they burnt the English Muffin, then when I sent it back they gave me one that never even came near the toaster.... but they did give me three slices of melon that were cold and refreshing.

WS, try searching the 'net for a Corgi rescue organization, you could skip the puppy/housebreaking stage and still get a nice dog.

And, uhhhhhhhhh, speaking of dogs. I am humbly apologizing for laughng at Bonnie and Mr. B's romantic interlude. No,wait, beyond apologizing, I am groveling in shame at my thoughtless laughter, and asking for forgiveness and begging not to have one of the Jack-be-terrs shipped to me because I am moving in 62 days and leaving no forwarding address for packages. deliveries, yes I am, you do believe me don't you?

Somer, Mr. Duke looks like he can do anything he pleases!! That's Olivia, Food, NOW, lap, NOW, petting NOW...good thing she's tiny, she'd be a terror if she were his size. We did have a siamese years ago that could open just about anything, doors, cupboards, and he could jump from the floor to the top of the 'frig (or your shoulder) in one leap and never touch anything on the way up. He was one very clever boy. One year at Thanksgiving he managed to open the door to our enclosed porch, and lick the entire top off a pumpkin pie. Now, little CC looks much more well behaved. Pink flamingoes and dodo birds, what time should we arrive??

Darius, thanks for the update on Molly. Give her our hellos and tell her we miss her. You will be happier and cooler when the A/C is done. The heat is probably what slowed the setting of the peach melba, it thought it was still cooking on the stove! I took the weed whacker to my snapdragons when I got home this morning. I thought about using the clippers but it was so awful out there, I just grabbed it and in ten minutes had done all the ones in front. I'm sure they'll bloom some more. Not going out there again today....

Sarv, Yeah, I'll go and try the perm and if it's awful, get it all cut off.

Misty, hope you take a spritzer bottle with you today, it helps a lot just to get a spray of cool water. Goats on the roof? LOL there's a restaurant up in Door County WI that has a grass roof, and the goats are up there all the time. Big tourist attraction.

I know I haven't addressed everyone, but you know I read everything, and I'm thinking about you even if I'm not commenting directly . Want a before and after hair picture??? It looks pretty bad right now, after golfing, sweating, getting windblown.... etc. so even a bad perm should be an improvement!

Later!

darius-congrats on getting the A/C people! I'd think they'd be REAL busy about now.

It's 90 here now and climbing. We don't have air,but I've had the shades down and fans keeping the air going-too hot to do much physical work but okay to read by a fan. I was worried about the horses, the are outside now (but have lots of shade, and there is a little breeze). When they're in the barn I have fans going. They seemed to enjoy having "breakfast in bed" this morning.

Where we board in the winter, they're all at a big jumper show this week, in downstate NY where it could approach 115 heat index.. It seems unwise to me to be subjecting horses to a jump course in this heat....this is not typical for our area. Oh well.

m5-You look great. you should give me lessons!! (I know, you have to care enough to put makeup on, but then again it would melt off at this point). It'll be fun to see the after pics.

Twyla-be careful in the heat!! Get yourself to a cooler place if you have to!

Mary, that is so nifty the way your hay comes in! So much better than our way, buy 100 bales at a time, load and unload by hand. Then again, I need exercise. Just not in the heat.

It seems like it will be improving over the weekend. I'm kind of down and grumpy, I guess with the weather, so off to the fan with the book.

Take care, please be careful in the heat!

Hi every one
It is 92' suppose to be 100' by tomorrow and the humidity is way up. What a shock yo go out of doors then come back tp 75 AC, hope power will not fail.
I already watered everthing twice but all is still droopy looking especially the containers.
Wish I was still in cool Washington, this is Mt. Baker Highway

Is it any wonder the call Washington the 'Evergreen State'?
Mt. Baker from a spot in Everdrson, unforunately the lodge was closed so we never really got to the top of it.

Grrrr... right in the middle of my canning, the HVAC guys punctured a water line under the house so now the water is off until they go to the hardware store and get it repaired.

All in all, it is coming along fine otherwise!

Gracie has abandoned the back porch where she normally stays... too much confusion out there for her I guess. The back and side yard is littered with new duct work stuff.

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Just checked the weather channel and they say its 97 with a heat index of 111. Glad I'm at work today. My 2 window units at home make it more comfortable, but are having a hard time keeping up with this stuff. I got my first BIG elec. bill last weekend. I don't think I want to open the next one.

M5- too funny about your bed making helpers. Mandy used to swat me from under the sheets. Thank goodness she outgrew that.

Somermoon - Cute Kitties!

WS - Try going to Petfinder .com. You can search shelters for the kind of dog you want, age, male, female etc. You do the search by zipcode so it will bring up the ones closest to you.

Darius - It's always something! It will be sooo nice though when the AC is working. How is Gracie anyway? Is she prego?

Mary - That hay truck sounds like the "stack wagon" they have where DS works. I couldn't tell from the pics, but must be similar. Farming is so automated compared to when my DF farmed.

Maria - Beautiful pics!

I would love it if DH would offer to go out for dinner. I doubt that will happen though. I have ham slices in the fridge for dinner. Maybe I'lll just stop by the market and get salad fixins to have with it.

Sorry if I missed anyone, ~~~~~ at ya!

Suzsie, et al... I really cannot tell if Gracie is preggers or not. She seems no larger than she was 2 weeks or so when I discovered her. Well, this Friday's Vet visit will tell the tale, LOL.

Great pics, Maria. Glad your back safely even if it is warm in MA. Warm here too.

Went out by bus to work on a concert at noon. Back here by two and have spent the afternoon doing an update of the Food Cupboard web site. Successor there finally sent me the material to get started. He sounded all keen to do it when we hired him and I initially turned down the offer to continue with it because I didn't think I'd be able to keep up with his requests. HA! He's done NOTHING. So even if I delay a bit it's probably better than the way he's handling it. The English side is now up to date. the French text has not yet been provided to me; so next week for that.

Think I'll go work on the laundry monster.

OK the deed is done and now I'll have to live with it. Actually, I think it turned out pretty good, except the picture taking part...I have to set the timer, and run to get in range, and try not to look too goofy and hope for the best. I gave up on makeup today, it would have slid right off my face...except for lipstick. I think if I hear the angels calling my name, my first instinct will not be to call 911, it will be to grab my tube of Estee Lauder and put lips on!!! LOL

Doesn't look all that much different, you say? That was my intention...no curly curls, just enough body to shake it into a semblance of order.

Suzi, I don't want to see my electric bill either...last month it was $161 (gas and electric arre conbined) and then the really hot weather hit. I'll sit down before I open it. Would have been a great summer to use solar energy

Darius, if Gracie hasn't gotten any larger I suspect more than before that she's just got worms. They can distend the belly a lot. Are her ....dare I say it without being chastized by Admin?) uhhhh milk spouts...(snicker) showing any signs of engorgement? Hope your A/C is up and running by tonight. I'm going to try the peach melba jam/jelly/preserves since I got that nice supply of raspberries from our neighbor. They aren't very seedy, so I probably will just toss them in whole.

Maria, the pictures are beautiful. I'll bet you have a lot more to show us. I'm it's at least 20* cooler in WA right now. Has Samson settled down yet. He's probably not to anxious to get out in the heat either.

OK here's the end result of my hour and a half of beauty torture. Gonna go finish my book and hope DH wants to go grab a burger tonight, and doesn't decide to cut the lawn in this heat. He is obsessed.

~~~ to all the suffering sweating miserable can't-go-out-in-the-garden folks who are waiting for that cool air from Canada.
