What camera are you using?

Just wondering. I so envy some of the close up shots I see here, especially of the tiny bugs and details of the flowers. I can't do that. I'm not sure if it's my camera or simply my lack of skill as a photographer, though.

I'm using a Fuji FinePix. I can't remember now if it's a 3.5 or 4.0 megapixel.

When I got my new computer last year, I specifically got a drive that I can put chips into. So I can take the photo chip out of my camera and pop it right into the drive and offload my photos onto my computer. Totally cool. Beats hauling out the 2.0 USB cable, or taking film to the grocery store and waiting for it to get developed.

And this way I don't have to pay money for fuzzy photos, chopped off heads, not enough light, and pictures I took with the lens cap on.

I just got a new Sony H5 - absoslutely love it. Has 12x zoom and 7.2 mega pixs. My first was a cannon with 2 mega pixs. What a difference now that I have the new one. I can get fab close ups and love the zoom too. It's a keeper!!

I tested out a zillion cameras. Took a penny with me and took close ups of it. There sure was a difference!

I have the Sony P200. Also 7.2 megapixels. I love it, and its compact style. Also does very good close ups.

That is one FINE photo!

Okay, now I'm jealous. I want MORE MEGAPIXELS!

Both Sony and Canon do a great job with their macro features. I have a Sony, my husband has a Sony, and I got my son a Canon. We are all please with our cameras. Most of the Sonys have a Carl Zeis lens, which is top notch as far as lens go. While my printer has a slot for my cameras memory card, I usually connect the camera to the computer to download the images. I like to crop and resize pics and use Photoshop for that.

i have a nikon 8.0 . still learning how to use it. i have my usb cable attached to my computer so all i have to do is open the door and stick one end into my camera and download my pictures. also have a cannon 3.2 mg which i like because its smaller
most of my pictures are posted on the tomato and vegetable and pepper forums

right now i am using a nikon 8.0 mg. when i bought it they send me a FREE photo copier that makes 4 x 6, 5 x 7 and 8 x 10 pictures.
still trying to learn how to use it. also have a nikon 3.2 mg. i like that one alot cause its smaller than the nikon. i have my usb cable attached to my computer all the time so that when i want to download all i do is open the door and insert one end of cable into camera and i'm all set.

don't keep my pictures on the computer for long and mostly i have pictures in the vegetable garden, tomato and pepper forums. 99 percent of those pictures were taken with the smaller cannon

WH, what model do you have. I have the Fuji E500, 4.1 MP.
It has a fine macro lens.
Good enough for this.

Wow. You can see the reflection off the butterfly's eyes!

What I'd really like to do at some point is take some classes in handling a digital camera. I'm getting better, but I could sure use some help.

White H, A convenient way to learn more about photography is to visit this site.
http://www.photographycorner.com/
There are lots of tutorials, and general camera info. Many photo posting and discussion forums allow you to see and read about member pics with tips on how to improve them. The critique corner has been tremendously helpful to me.
That butterfly pic above could not have happened without the help from that site.
If you have good image processing software, you can learn how to use it there, too.
With over 7000 members there is plenty of activity to keep it interesting.
Super nice people like here on DG.
Sorry if I sound like a sales person but I really like that site.

That is good information Andy.

I bought an Olympus C-7000 last summer and can't wait for it to break. Right after I bought it, before I had time to judge if I liked it or not, we had some illness in the family that kept me busy and I ran out of time to return it. I hate this camera!!!! It takes very clear pictures but the colors are not even close to what the view finder (or LED screen) shows. Of course, it has lots of options but scrolling through many menus and sub menus takes so much time I often lose shots. I could change the settings on my old SLR much faster. I had purchased this camera online. In the future I will go through Sam's Club or Costco so I can return it locally if necessary.
On the plus side, it is fast and I have never run out of battery power even when taking more than 100 photos in an afternoon.

Whatever you do get, I highly recommend you get one that can fit in your pocket. I have a 7.2 megpaixels casio and I love it.

When I am out weeding or watering and I see a cool bug, I have my camera right there plus it fits in my purse. Photo opportunities can come quickly in the garden! If you have to go back into the house to get your camera, your bug might disappear.

Here is my one of my favorite pix of this summer: a green mantis standing on a lady-in-red hydrangea petal... you can see how tiny she is!

Great shot Sterhill, I'm blessed with lots of Mantis this year.
Yes, size does matter. LOL
Mine fits in my pocket but the 'settings' dial may turn. It's a good reminder to ALWAYS check the settings.

Has anyone used the Canon Digital Rebel 8 MP or know how it does? This is the one that I'm leaning to buying and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts.
