I need more sun in my yard. Yes, that's what I need.
Why don't you please send a little of that Texas sunshine up my way? LOL
It's July, but what to plant next year?
That's my thought exactly DanceyTx, to plant more (and more) Salvias and Agastaches. I love those two types of plants! Gotta get more for the Hummers and Butterflies! That's what I always think when buying plants.
Marilyn
Marilynbeth--Hummer plants are on my mind too. And butterfly plants. I need more sunny space for the Asclepias/Milkweeds for the Monarchs.
...Although it's beautiful and sunny today. I think we usually get a little more cloud cover here than in Hebron. And in TX too, I bet!
I will be so sad when my hummers take off (next week?) for the south (and TX)! t.
Time for me to get on my bandwagon. Hummers and butterflies love native plants.
I have placed an order already for Salvias and Agastaches to plant this fall. Also I will have two Asclepias' plants on the way for fall planting.
My poor zinnias are looking pretty sad but I don't have the heart to take them out yet. There are still so many buds to open and the butterflies are still all over them.

dancey i think i am with you on the agastaches.....they have been calling me
zenp.--- So what are you planning to planting for next summer? Any new ideas? t.
I like the looks of 'Apricot Sunrise' Agastache from Bonnie's.

I love the colors.
The list is very long. I have two gardens the one at home and then I just started one at our summer cabin this year. So as a start, Doll's Eyes, Red Baneberry, Textile Onion Wild Leek, Tall Thimbleweed, Whorled Milkweed, Rice Button Aster, Short's Aster, and Ground Plum. If you use the Latin names that takes me through the A's.
I ordered 'Apricot Sunrise' agastache from Bluestone this spring and I am waiting for the bloom. Maybe it needs more sun...
LOL zen--and you're only in the A's? The plants sound very unusual to me
I looked up the Whorled Milkweed native to MN
http://www.prairieresto.com/Species%20list/whorled_milkweed.htm
and I suppose the monarchs love it too?
tabasco, Yes, they are all native plants. The monarchs love Milkweed. I have two native plant beds now and will continue to add more until I run out of room.
Most of what I am going to add will be winter sown and then planted at our lake cottage. I will add add at home too of course, but having just started at our lake home and having more room there I get to plant more there.
The 'Apricot Sunrise' agastache looks beautiful, I noticed that is is zone 6.
I've been thinking about next year, too, and have just signed up on the trade list. Do people really use that? I have a bunch of daylilies I'd be willing to trade, I'm looking for coreopsis moonbeam and seeds for any foxgloves (except purple), and pink cleome. Here's my daylily, I also have purple coneflower to trade:
I have never traded plants, I don't trust myself to get them there alive. I have traded seeds I checked and I don't have any coreopsis moonbeam left. I should have some this fall if you want to keep it in mind and check back with me later.
I will also have coreopsis moonbeam seeds in about 4 weeks. I would be happy to trade those, or cuttings even if you give me the heads up in the next 4 days. They only take about a week to root up.
LOL I surprised to hear zen that you have never traded-- I have never traded plants either and I thought I was the only one who didn't!.
I don't trust myself to pack them properly (although I sent a couple plants to gemini_sage as an experiment today and I'm sure they will arrive a soggy rotten mess! I'm counting on his forgiveness!
I think DGers use the trade lists a lot, though, and I would like to use it more. Then I could have lots of new plants in the garden next July.
Good luck with your trades, cindy--and let us know how they turn out!
tabasco,
I go to two trades for live plants here in Minnesota and just haven't gotten into the mailing part. Let me know if your's make it ok. Maybe I will try.
Speaking of trades and packaging plants for transit I received my Night Blooming Jasmine plant in the mail. It is a nice large plant. But of course it dropped all it's leaves and has looked like a dead stick. Finally yesterday I saw two tiny nodes so I know it is still alive. I'm so happy!
Lin
Oh I am so jealous, one of the plants I miss being able to grow the most is Night Blooming Jasmine. Maybe someone will develop a hardy one.
Zen this is the first Night Blooming Jasmine I've grown. I'm pretty excited about it. I'm sure I won't see any blooms till next spring though.
