Show me your gates! Please!

Iowa City, IA(Zone 5a)

These are the Sun Gates, to the front of our garden (the picture was taken in the fall). A friend of ours made them out of copper pipe as a gift for us.

Here's mine. Not very good at keeping bugs away. In fact, new ones keep showing up.

That sun gate is beautiful!

Fly - can you make something like that?

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

Don, that's pretty! And original! What a good friend to have!

Good one Victor!

K, I think that gate might have some welding done on the small copper pieces, unfortunately I only have a propane torch. In my (little) experience the copper won't stick to copper unless it's welded, or use a fitting with a prop torch.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh...yes, I'd be scared to weld.

But, what a lovely gate! They all are!

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

LOL, Victor.

And is there anyone who would NOT like a white picket fence? I'm still trying to find something I can afford to make a beautiful little entryway in front of my ugly gate. I'll probably have to build something.

Crosbyton, TX(Zone 7a)

i have never aspired to a picket fence.....but this house was screaming picket fence....; underneath the trees you could see nothing.....just blackness; so i put white shutters on the house popped it with white trim.....as i told my hubby, our home was like a painting without a frame....the look of the house was ok......but once you had the frame around the painting (if done right) well the painting is complete.....so was our home....i did a computer generated photo of our house with a fence and showed him.....once he saw it with the computer graphics fence ....he was sold..; when will he learn to trust me?

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

He's a man, right? ;p

Crosbyton, TX(Zone 7a)

oh thats right....i keep forgetting(grin)

Crosbyton, TX(Zone 7a)

fly....no fake roses for me.....will figure something out even if it is wrong(grin)

Yorkville, IL(Zone 5b)

I bought the Butterfly Gate at Collectionetc.com for $19.99
(But You can find them all over Ebay now)
we removed the Bottom that come with it and ran rebar through the legs to make it stronger.

I have an Annual MOON Flower vine on the 4 sided Trellis... which I bought
online for $54.00....it stands almost 7 feet tall...I cant remember where I bought the trellis

I choose an Annual over a Perennial so I can change it year to year as the mood strikes me

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

Wow, that's a good price!
I agree, annual vines.....they don't seem to get as big as the perennial ones and love moonflower. You bought the moonflower for $54? I hope not.

Are those Celosia in the back? They're huge!

This years addition to the yard.

Oh, that's very nice!!!

Did you make it? Love the shingles too and that Jap maple over the fence is a beautiful color!

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Built all but the 'moon-gate', which was purchased at Lowe's.
I'm a shingle nut, would shingle everything if I could, but DW
keeps me from extremes, well most of the time.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

I bet you make some awesome birdhouses too?

I didn't know they had those gates at Lowe's, will be checking those out, thanks!

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

This is a gate that I built several month ago. I may have posted the picture on another forum. The hinges, ornamental insert, and latch are wrought iron. The old door knob set was found at a yard sale. I am now working on another gate similar to this one with a square insert for the other side of the yard. I have used cedar for the planks and treated lumber for the back cross pieces. All of the assembly was done with screws and bolts.

rocco...very nice gate...send pics of the other one you do also!!!

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

Ooooohhhh love that! Yes, show us more!

Crosbyton, TX(Zone 7a)

fly....it is great...but yours is too....what about incorporating the 'arbor' look like he has done.....; from my perspective yours looks as tastefully done as rocco....we are our own worst critic......but in all honesty...yours looks great too...

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Beautiful gate Rocco.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

I don't know sns,,, thank-you, but I really like the middle piece in rocco's and balvenie's. And the hinges dress it up. I have a copper arbor right in front of it.....you can't really see it in the pic. You know how sometimes you think something just doesn't look right or what you have in your mind? That's with my gate. Another problem is the flat part is on the other side, it should be reversed. Then I could add hinges, latch and a middle piece. I'll try to reverse it when it gets cooler.

Thanks sns for the compliments!

Crosbyton, TX(Zone 7a)

fly...i think that the hardware would dress yours up quite nicely...i just love all these ideas!!!

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

Thanks for the compliments. I will post a photo of the other gate when I have finished. That may take some time. I am retired and have decided to take it easy and never hurry.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

No hurry, we'll be here and so will my gate LOL

Yorkville, IL(Zone 5b)

fly_girl...No, haha. The Trellis was $54...not the Moon Vine. I believe the Seeds were only $1.69 . The Tall Wine Colored Plants are Amaranthus Intense Purple. I had them all OVER.(Till just a few days ago).. Now I have thousands and THOUSANDS of Seeds..... Anyone Need some for a SASE? Just email me...

The big gate has had its tin roof removed and been given a Wisteria roof instead. Much nicer, the tin roof just didn't have much fragrance or visual interest.

Very pretty Amaranthus AG, I'll have to take you up on that offer, thank-you

That's a great fence, gate, and arbor! Yes, you don't hear much how fragrant that tin was . lol

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

balvenie - That is soooo beautiful !

A tin roof should never be seen, only heard in the rain.
tap tap tap tap tap - I love the sound of it on the roof of the shed.

Crosbyton, TX(Zone 7a)

balvenie very pretty gate!!!

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

I obviously have too much time on my hands, or can't sleep (or both) and have been jumping around DG reading threads where I recognize the poster's name.

Well, doggone it . . . I love every single one of the gates I've seen!!! I don't even have a place where I can put a gate . . . unless I get things figured out in back where the wild property is (not mine). I could probably have some fun with some sort of gate there. Hey - maybe a fence with an assortment of gates (like one of each of the ones on this thread). Ooooooh, I'm so artistic.

Really beautiful gates here, folks.

Dallas, TX

I hear ya Mumer! When I had a chance to get a gate I declined, now I want one too. :(
