Yeah, I was sort of preferring Sunday myself....plus traffic won't be as bad.... :)
San Antonio area Plant Swap -part II - Oct 14-15
I have no pref. sunday is fine if it works with the majority. I can not make anything until afternoon, I need some sleep after the night shift work schedule.

one more flower I have that I can swap.
Nada, I checked your thread, I have some of the nightshade, but I sure could use more.
However I have found it to be very difficult to transplant, I am trying cuttings at this point and hoping that it will work better.
Isin't if funny how some people love a plant and others hate it?
I was referring to the comments at the end of the thread that you posted.
Josephine.
yep. I know. I'm of the opinion that if it is pretty, deer don't eat it. it isn't invasive/banned. Then let it go. I started with one little plant. I will have to take a pic in the morning but it covers a couple of square feet now. nice and cheerfull. I will see what I can do with them...
OT, but just wanted to mention that there's another blood drive at Milberger's Nursery in S.A. this Sat from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They really need donors this time of year and Milberger's always gives donors something nice in addition to the usual stuff from the blood bank. If you do come out for this, be sure you drink enough fluids beforehand, however.
Hopefully in October this heat will have broken! It's too hot for me to work in my yard. I'm just looking out the window at all my plants withering away, begging me to do something... "water me... water me... " But I can't... they don't understand... it's not Friday and that is my watering day, my poor babies. I'm so sorry. Sigh.
I am sorry you are only allowed to water on Fridays Teresa, I can imagine how you must feel. May be you can save some of your shower or kitchen water, and give them a drink from the watering can, just a thought.
Josephine.
If you're under S.A. rules, water in early morning or evening, just not with sprinklers and such. But I just heard that Bexar Met (some people in the S.A./Bexar Co. area) has issued an order prohibiting all landscape watering for its customers...at least until next Wednesday. I guess they'll decide then what they want to do. Scary. In our area we're in Stage I...but Stage III is no outdoor watering for us. So...do the water companies have the power to just issue decrees in unincorporated areas? Who would enforce it? Where we live, it's county...and there is extremely little county involvement in this area (this little subdivision is in two counties and there are 3 county corner areas that come together nearby). The neighborhood association doesn't have much clout and all the roads are private roads. Would be interesting, but I hope I never see it happen.
I know how ya feel...Linda... We live pretty much in Helotes...but we're supposed to be annexed by SA in a few years or so...Only Bexar County sheriffs come out this way...and so, if we're not actually IN the city of SA...do we follow water regulations for SA...then again, Helotes is also under Stage I...so its really all and the same, lol TODAY is my watering day...and I think that this time, I'll put the soaker hose in the backyard all night, just on a low drip. Thank goodness we have a very small back and front yard...but all in all...my green babies are really really struggling.. :( Just breaks my heart...
Melanie
I get to go home tonight and walk around the yard hand holding my water sprayer. Dad is in stone oak and they aren't allowed to water at ALL!
lol Nada...I've been doing just that since LAST Thursday....goodness, when is this going to end?
Melanie
Melanie, we are not even in Helotes (address says we are, but nope). We're WAY out past there. We're not on the same aquifer. There's some little local aquifer here. So we get our water bill from some company up north, but the water is pumped into a tank here locally. It's really weird. But this heat makes me want to yank out some plants that are too wimpy to stand the heat and need too much water. Tough love!
Well....I got back from Rainbow Gardens, in one piece and fairly hydrated..lol
I managed to pick up quite a few interesting plants...and where I'll put these new additions, I haven't the faintest idea..lol But I found a blue mist...which I thought was so pretty. http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/557/index.html
I hadn't seen them before...and since the flying flowers were following me around and landing on it as I walked the grounds...I thought to myself that I HAD to have this plant..lol Got some pentas, a pink ruellia (the tall one), a red butterfly weed and the blue mist.
I think I need to have ya'll come over to my house for an intervention...lol Somebody stop me from buying more flowers! :D
sorry can't help! *giggle I had blue mist last year and the butterflies just LOVED it. only one small plant has come up this year. sooooo you might want to watch it and save some seeds to repropergate it for next year. I'm not sure if it was because we got so cold last winter or if it just doesn't reseed good.
Very nice Melanie!!!.
Pretty nice TxT . . . I guess we're gonna have to call B.A. on ya (Blooms Anonymous) Soon you'll be hold'n weekly meetings at your house :D lol
Somebody wanna help me do another rain dance down here? It's get'n B-A-D-D (double*D*) bad!!!
I watched the 10 o'clock news last night and saw where Bexar Met has put water bans on areas north of town - they named 4 subdivisions - until next Thursday. They didn't mention anything about us out here south of the city, but I'm guessing we're not far behind.
Hopefully we'll get a few showers out of that little tropical wave that's brew'n down in the Gulf. If not . . . I fear for this entire area. It's times like these that I'm glad I'm not a farmer or rancher. Poor folks . . . my prayers are with them for sure.
Well howdy stranger... :)
lol...I can see it now... *standing in front of a circle, holding a bromeliad, "Hi, my name is Melanie...and I buy plants." lol .... "I was born in a small town...and my first grade teacher made me plant a pinto bean; THATS when it started." lol... :D

Yes, you are right, between the drought and the fires, it is pretty scary, we surely need a change.
Josephine...is Blue Mist a true Texas native? I can't seem to find any info to let know.....just wondering.. :)
I am sorry Melanie, but the bluemist you got is not a Texas native, here is a link to that plant, if you scroll down, it will show you on th US map which state it is native to;
http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=CARYO3
Josephine.
Ahh...ok...thanks for the link. Thats alright...its still mighty pretty...and the butterflies are enjoying it.. :)
lmbo TxT . . . that's too funny :))
Yeah Josephine . . . it's as bad as I've seen it in a looooooong time. Maybe the worst for the longest period of time that I can remember.
Com'oooonnn Rain!!!
Maybe if I get my galoshes and raincoat on and get a big ole umbrella open outside....and THEN do a rain dance in my driveway..something or another will happen....I know the neighbors would enjoy themselves at my expense...lol
My ex-sister-in-law does an odd thing when we're needin' rain as bad as we do.....she actually takes a steak knife outside and sort of waves it at the sky.... to "cut the sky" as they say, lol. (Old South Texas belief) :)
I think the neighbors might freak out more at the sight of a person waving a knife around. Maybe I'll try that! I'm desperate! Yeah, I've taken to covering up my pots during the afternoon...even being in the shade of a tree isn't always enough anymore.
Piping in about the heat. I sizzling in the garden. I think I know what an egg feels like in a frying pan. Shade on one side of the yard and you can't feel the difference if you are under it or out of it in the open sun. This heat bites bad..................
I think I am going to have to start hand watering everydy. I am leting the front yard go. Watering every other week once a week.
calvin
Did anyone get rain this morning? I think it started here, then stopped right away. Not even a trace in the gauge. It left a few traces in the dust, however.

Not even a drop out here Linda . . . but hey . . . if TxT would just dance around a bit in those galoshes and raincoat . . . ya never know what could happen :D
*dancin' around in galoshes and raincoat, waving a knife*...dadgum it...nothing is working! :D
Sort of odd tho....have ya'll noticed the dark, stormy sort of clouds hanging around a bit today?
Melanie
I noticed the stormy clouds this morning after work, it is awful........ all the teaseing and such. The flirting is murder! Nature sure knows something about human nature, hehehe.

even my house didn't get below 80 with an air cond. It is just toooo hot.
oh my goodness...I just saw a photo of a salvia clevelandii and its soo pretty...Being that I absolutely love salvias of all kinds...I was just wondering if anyone coming to the swaparoo would happen to have any? Would love to have a cutting! :)
Melanie
hmmmm I don't have any of those . . . but I bet someone will.
I recently discovered a new family of plants too . . . I'm wondering if anyone has any Plumeria that could bring a cutting or two from?
They're suposed to be pretty hardy and easy to start.
Well...I do love salvias....and these are so pretty....! (Howdy, by the way.. :)
I forgot...what do plumerias look like?
:D howdy . . . those are the flowers that they make those Lei's (sp? Hawaiin Neckless thangs) out of . . . or at least they use these for that . . . likely use other flowers too... not sure.
There are several different varieties of them in PlantFiles - do a search and you'll be want'n some too ;)
Here's the one I think I'd like:
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/1142/index.html
Plus this page has tons of info about the plants/trees in the comments section. . . check it out :)
ooooohhh....yeah...those are gorgeous.... :) I think they have a fragrance as well, which is always a plus for me.. :) I have something that looks real similar...the leaves and blooms as well..but the darn thing has long thorns on it...and i have no idea what it is..! I need to get an ID on it soon....its just another odd looking plant among my many odd looking plants...lol
lol TxT . . . yeah they say these come in all different colors and scents . . . some stronger than others and so on.
They sound like they're easy to grow as long as they don't get too cold. Which aint likely to happen around here any time soon . . . lol
hmmm...I wonder if Rainbow would have any? Ya could call out there...or I could ...if ya want....just don't make me go out there again....lol... :o Daaang...I still have my new plants on the front porch! I reckon I'll try to get them in the ground somehow or another...and put an umberelly over them.... :D But like I said...a big black jumping spider has already moved into the pink penta..lol...so he may be finding himself a new...and more sunnier location...lol
I have a big Frangipanii, its a pink and white, you only have to protect the green tips through the winter when the time comes i will post how I dress it up so that it can stay out side the cold. The perfume is more destinct in the evening, if you like brugs Dats and Night scented Serius, you will like it. Sweet and musky but not overpowering like a flush of brugs can be.
