Who's using rain barrels to collect water?

DFW area, TX(Zone 7b)

In an emergency, when drinking water is not available,
there is an entire 100 gal. plus tank sitting right in your house.
Go to your hot water heater, turn off the gas, turn off the water
intake valve, turn on the spout and drain the sediment from the
bottom of the tank. Voila. Enough water to sustain you and
your animals for days and days.

Mahnot, I can't think of what NRH might be. Not Real Hot? No Rain Here? Never Release Hostages?

THANKS for the reminder about the water heater. Good source if and when... hoping no one's caught in a hurricane again this year.

Pod, we need to time our dancing -- we were probably out there at the same time late last September, and you know what happened then!

brigidlily, NRH is North Richland Hills. I get so agitated
when I have to write it on Christmas card envelopes,
bills, etc... it seems to take forever.... that when I saw it
listed here that way, it got on my nerves. I know, I know....
but it wasn't the load that broke the camel's back, it was
that darned last straw.

Me too - I'm praying for those in Hurricane alley, as well
as for those of us in Tornado alley. Stay safe, and be
prepared.

We.ve been dry here also. I have 2 55 gal. barrels and another 1 cut in half. Only one is under a spout. The others catch water from the roof. I just dip the watering can in and water. I also have 3 -2 gal. buckets under the airconditioner and I can dump them morning and night. No not always full but was suprised how much there could be.

For me the south and west side of the house work best for catching water that way.

Well I have a tankless water heater so no water there... *giggle

But I have 5 rain barrels. Only two are hooked up yet. I just got the others to add to my system.
