Jus funning ya ye know.

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

Hehe, you are bad!

Biv, not boring at all. I am always sorry that my bad grammar can indicate poor schooling or lack of intelligence. I try to remind myself to speak properly but there are many rules to remember. Enjoyed that thread awhile back...something about grammar with an apostrophe s in the title. =)

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

My daughter hated to hear me say warsh, so I've learned to wash.

Another favorite saying, waste not, want not.

Central FL, FL(Zone 9b)

Oh Tir, I've not noticed that you have bad grammar, and you certainly don't sound uneducated nor unintelligent! English does have a lot of rules, and nobody remembers them all. I get my nose out of joint when I hear and read really bad mistakes made by people who should have better language skills, such as TV and print journalists, lawyers, and others whose stock in trade is language.

I remember that thread; I think it was 4Paws who started it. The 's thing was about its and it's. People tend to write "it's" for the possessive, but that's incorrect. The apostrophe can only be used in the contraction for "it is." Pronouns never have apostrophes in the possessive.

Billyporter (of the long brown hair?), warsh is also used in S.IL. I think my sister says that. When I was a child, I seem to remember that some people also "rinched" their clothes after they warshed them.

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

I'm from Michigan and have never heard someone say warsh! How different! I can't stand how Rush Limbaugh (who I don't care to listen to anyway....but anyhow) says the word school as "skule." I've never heard anyone but him say it?!

One grammar rule I've never forgotten was the 's in the word it's!!! I was always told to use the apostraphe when you mean to say, "it IS" and not just "its." That one sticks with me like glue. =)

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Yep, long and brown!
I've never rinched, but I've heard it. I'm not sure where warshed came from. Maybe lazyness. I try to pronounce correctly, but when you don't watch tv or read much anymore you lose language skills. I forget a lot of words I don't use. Spelling AND defination.

Tir na nog, I don't notice bad grammer from you either.

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

Oh I can slip up on occassion I'm sure...if I mis-use my words it's really because I don't know the rules so feel free to remind me!

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

We learned phonics in school, but to really see how many word rules there are, buy a word book.

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

Oh man I don't think I could stay awake for that heavy of reading =). I just wish I could be more of a purist when it comes to the English language as it was my major in college!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Pleading ignorance, but how else would you pronounce school, except "ch" as a "k"? (Hmmmm....maybe THAT's why people assume I'm from somewhere else when they hear me talk ;o)

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Yeah, I didn't quite get it either.

The word book is basically a dictionary without definitions. A spelling book. I keep it right in front of me. If I don't remember how to spell, I still am smart enough to know I've misspelled it.

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

Glad you caught me on that Terry, I edited it. =) I'm not sure HOW to type how Rush says it but it doesn't sound like skool at all, more like skule.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

I get it. (I don't listen to him at all if I can help it.)

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

Oh I don't either but when you are on the road a lot and flipping AM channels it's hard not to catch an ear of his show. "God's gift to the world" I think he calls himself or something like that. =)

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Yeah, right. ;~)

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

Ohh, I was 'brought up' with .. 'wrench' or 'rench' or 'ranch' or 'raynch' ..

As in .. " You warsh and raynch 'em - I'll dry'em and put'em away!"

Some remarkably wonderful and fond memories: held very dear to my ol heart.

But, still .. taint nary of 'em, any sayins that I'm known by, per say. (hee)

I reckon, that it may would be those lil shortee phrases .. such as, "right off hand" and "ifn' I had my druthers" .. to recall, merely a few of 'em. (LOL)

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Missouri is as south as my maternal family gets, maybe I'm a southerner after all. (Warsh and putt'em)

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

Flush Rush.

I've known folks in upstate NY who said "warsh."
How about "crick" for "creek," "ruff" for "roof," and "Sarrdee" for "Saturday. " Those are a few I grew up with.

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

I always think of Bostonians with that accent. I think it's the most unusal in all the US...so neat how that area speaks very different!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Manhattanites with Satday for Saturday.

Central FL, FL(Zone 9b)

Warsh in upstate NY, too, huh? That word is becoming more and more interesting.

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

Yes, friends in Albany said, "warsh."

On the banks of the , VA(Zone 7a)

Ugh, my Mum says "warsh". Show me the "r", Mum.

And my saying, I learnt from my ex-husband. I can't say it on this nice PG board. ; p

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

LOL Luna! About the same thing my Daughter said. I have to admit warshrag is pretty stange.

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

Edited .. fer safety!

It is funny, what some people come up with for pronunciations.

Central FL, FL(Zone 9b)

When I was a child, we had a neighbor who said "elexocute" instead of electrocute.

Northport, ME(Zone 5b)

"Old and in the way" Trying to achieve this title. I blast 80's punk music as I pass through Camden. (A high-end tourist trap on my commute to work) Black Flag, or Replacements or Didi, Johnny, Jimmy, Joey, The Ramones. I might also blast Vivaldi or Bach. My bumper sticker should say "Curmudgeon is me, and I have a gun."

Mandeville, LA(Zone 9a)

My standard response to all things positive...."groovy". It works.

Mandeville, LA(Zone 9a)

My standard response to all things negative/bad..."just another bug on the windshield of life".

...Groovy

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

Dig it.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Yeah man!

On the banks of the , VA(Zone 7a)

*lol* My four year old says, "Gah-rooooooooooovy Mama" like the kittens in the Disney movie, "The Aristocats".

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Cool, for me!

Mandeville, LA(Zone 9a)

I work in a veterinary clinic and two of my favorites are people who say they have a "rockwilder" or a "clocker spaniel". We also have people call and ask to have their dog "spaded".

Central FL, FL(Zone 9b)

A woman once told me she needed a new "chester" for her bedroom. It took me a couple of minutes to figure out she meant a chest of drawers...a chester drawers.

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

I grew up calling them all dressers. When I married it bothered DH (from the south) who said the dresser was the long low ones for ladies and the tall ones for men were the chests of drawers. Interesting. But I still call them all dressers (and I don't even like the long low kinds with the mirrors!)

Central FL, FL(Zone 9b)

Nema, I'm sure you must also have people who think they have dash hounds. :)

Central FL, FL(Zone 9b)

Tir, lots of people call chests of drawers dressers. That's why I always ask exactly what someone means when I'm doing a bedroom. I don't want to plan a room with a dresser if they really want a "chester." Of course, sometimes what they want isn't what should be there, so then I have to change their minds. :)

Mandeville, LA(Zone 9a)

Haven't heard that one although I have heard Kees - hound! Clocker spaniel is my absolute favorite. I guess they hunt clocks.
