I apologize, this is the food thread not the trade thread. Sorry guys.
See what I mean about the brain?????!
July 8th Round Up Food #2
I have finally made a decision on what to bring. lol
Bringing a Marinated Grilled Vegetable Salad.
Donna
Well, Saturday brought wonderful things to my dd's wedding. Family, friends, good food and just a great time. Now maybe my brain is back on track and I can think a little straighter...then May 12th is another dd's wedding. Looking so forward to July 8th. Going to relax and have a great day with all my Dave's buddies!
If there's anything that needs to be done, please let me know.
After watching to see what has been posted, I will bring along fruit and veggies for munching. Fiona is going to drag my sorry self out of here a Oh:darkhundred and will be peering over the fence waiting for Elliot to wake up. (Pam and Don, I promise we will not be there before the rooster crows LOL) What can she bring doggies and Elliot for treats?
hiya frogsrus,
The doggies love beef jerky and Elliot is very fond of Mrs. Pasture's cookies....yes it is a real brand name and kind of a Mrs. Field's joke I guess, but the horses love the darn things. Carrots will always endear Fiona to the old guy (Elliot....not me, although I like carrots as well but will not carry her on my back for hours on a trail for one....lol).
See you for breakfast then,
don
She can bring you a bottle of wine and you do not have to carry her at all. In fact, I highly recommend that you do not try. I make it a rule never to carry things that are taller than I. (except plants and it is iffy then) Is there a walk-in store for the cookies-so far I have only found online?
I told the child that if she got there too early that she would have to help build the compost pile Lol. Did not disuade her much. She is so excited to meet you all (and Elliot) and to see Donna again.
Well, off to my first high school band meeting. Have a great day
Janice
"Never carry anything taller than I" sounds like good advice. LOL
I'm a short person so many things are taller than I...lol. Thus the many scars and broken bones. One would think after many years of having things that are taller than me topple over on top of me that I'd learn something....I must be heightdyslexic. Or just a moron....lol.
Elliot has brushed his teeth in case he's asked to do any kissing....lol. He does get a bit of grassbreath every now and then.
I know nothing of cookies or stores, but there is a 24hr Ralph's very close to the ranch (5 miles away) right next to a coffee dispensary for 7.50 lattes...lol. If you mean Mrs. Pastures....not to worry, there is an ample supply on hand at all times for the horses. All Fiona needs to do is grab some and watch Elliot become her lifelong pal after just a few of those tasty morsels....lol.
If Fiona prefers English saddle to western....so does Elliot, but there is a western saddle on hand if she prefers that.
Back out to the gardens.
hope all are well,
don
Who says it's cheaper out here in Hickville?
Morning. I do not believe she is too picky. I am relieved there are a few cookies at hand. My daughter was going to drag to Mary's in El Cajon to get them. Not exactly a garden metropolis on a hot day.
You no longer live in Hicksville, my friend. I am amazed driving through your area the growth in the last few years. If you can't buy it in Temecula, you probably do not need it. The stores andd mediocre to fast food have definately found you Lol.
Have a great day
Janice
The more I look, the hungrier I get.
I plan to bring a 9 x 13 Apple crumb pie.
Loyd
I promised to bring lettuce, tomatoes and onions to the RU and now won't be able to make it. Can I send money and someone get them for me? Sorry, there's a birthday party that day that I just can't miss...family member. I'm so bummed.
Dove, I owe you a bottle of wine.
You guys have a great time and be safe.
I will bring the lettuce, tomatoes and onions. Don't worry about it, Weegy - just sorry you won't be there.
I have been procrastinating. How about if I bring a couple of strudels? Fresh peach and apple (if I still have a bag of cranberries it will be apple/cranberry).
Yummers
Thank you Kathleen. I will gladly pay you for them. I am really bummed about not being able to join you all. How late do you think it might go til? Maybe I could pop in later! We'll see how it goes and thanks again kaperc! And now I'm missing George's strudel, now I'm crying!
Go George! Let them have their chocolate! Sounds good to me.
Do we have a head count on this fantastic party yet? I need to know how many plates to buy! Jo
I have just updated the food and looks like we are going to have plenty of desserts... lol
If anyone hasn't posted on what they are bringing yet, please do so soon.
I'm still looking for someone to volunteer to BBQ the hamburgers...any volunteers?
Jo, I can't say for sure, but it looks like about 40 people. Not everyone has checked into the headcount thread.
Eleven days to go...yippee
Donna
Anyone bringing gaucomole and onion dip yet?
Steph,
Look at the 2nd post in this thread and it will show what is being brought.
Donna
Hey Steph_gem...I look forward to meeting you...my Granddaughter is coming home for the 4th and I'm riding back to San Diego with her....she will take me to the RU...she had a great time last year...she lives in Imperial Beach...and I will have 3 days free while she is doing her thing each day in the Navy...Dmail me your phone number...maybe we can "caravan" to Drdons great 2 nd annual RU!!
Thanks, Donna...see ya soon!! Jo
well I didn't not see it on the list but I still thought I would ask. If there are too many dips I could make a pasta salad....
hiya guys,
Last year we had only 25 or so rsvps and over 60 showed up! Pam and I are planning for about the same, but we could all be surprised. Jo, there is a supermarket just five miles away from the ranch so if we need to run out and get more stuff, we can be back with it in a flash.
We're getting very excited here!
best,
don
*ahem*...Did I hear Don right...He's going to "flash"....Gee. Jo
steph_gem,
pasta salad would probably be good. Weege was going to make some, but she can't come after all.
kathleen
I am going to bring an assortment of different brownies/bars...easy finger food. :-) Cream Cheese Brownies, Mocha Brownies, Lemon Brownies, etc. but no frosting as I think it will be too hot.
We could use more salads...I'll bring a rice/veggie salad that has lots of goodies in it.
Corona~Barb
I dunno....
How does some sort of refreshing pineapple - jicama salsa concoction sound?
mmmmm........jicama and pineapple is almost as refreshing on a hot day as chaya with watermelon juice.....okie dokie......who's making it?
The rice salad sounds fabulous!
I'm waiting for someone who has THAT macaroni salad recipe that's heavy on Dijon and celery seed with pickles and Kalimata olives and Porcini mushrooms.......does anyone know that one?....lol.
YUM.......I can't wait for this.....any of you who know me also know that I'm a chow hound in the most peculiar way....lol.
Stout beer with tuna fish?.......bring it on.....lol.
I was almost beaten to a pulp by a very large and angry short order cook once when I put mustard and pickle relish on his bloody French Fries (at the time they were called Freedom Fries....when will it end?) and he accused me of being a Nazi........oh well, they were the best "deep fried, julienned potatoes", I've ever tasted in my life. But one needs to go to the town of Golconda, Nevada to get them....lol. I thought the 'chef' was going to kill me for not putting CATsoup on his fries, but when he had a bit of mine, he was a convert. Pissed him off but he was convinced that he now made 'mustard fries'......I guess at that time and in that region it was a horrible thing to mention the French...lol. I've been to France many times and I love the French....as long as they don't speak about their politics and their superior wines. I'm from California and spend a bunch of time up north where the wines are now and have been since the sixties waaaay better than most or all of the Burgundies, or any other region. But I must admit that they've got us beat by orders of magnitude when it comes to really great and interesting foods.
Who's gonna bring the chopped squid and truffle with nonpariel capers cold salad?...
gastronomically yours,
he who eats anything that looks back at him from the plate...lol.
Careful what you wish for...........
OK, better late than never!
I will be bringing marinated Mushrooms.........
Is there anything else that may be needed? I keep getting lost tryng to read this thread... I think it's the chocolate : )
Is there a gaping hole in the pot luck? If so, how can I fill it? I'll be happy to bring anything but green bellpeppers, which taste like a house plant to me.
Lisa
Lol!! Lisa, how many house plants have you eaten (and which ones were they?)
Well, my brother and I used to dare each other to eat gross stuff when we were little kids and I ate a small piece of house plant once. I don't know which one it was, but when I bit into it, my brain immediately gave me a message like, "Warning! This is not something you should eat!" Raw snow peas and raw sugar snap peas also taste like a house plant to me. Now red and yellow bells taste heavenly to me, but the green ones- pyuck!
Lisa,
I was just notified that our member 'Gourd' will not be able to attend after all. She has to go out of town on business. She was going to bring - baked beans, salsa and chips. Would you like to pick up on one of these items now?
Donna
How about my mom's famous "Sticky Beans?" AND the Salsa and Chips? How many should I cook for?
Lisa,
There is going to be a "lot" of food, so don't worry about cooking for the amount of people that are coming. Just bring enough for a small gathering of people, like if you were having a BBQ at your home with friends and family.
Hope this helps. :-)
Donna
That sounds great Donna, and I'm glad I can share some home cooked food!
GOURD's not coming? *snif*....
Hey Lisa, my daughter just got married at the Sun and Sail Club in your town! It's a great place!
I might be able to come after all for a little while before the birthday party, shall I still bring lettuce, tomatoes and onions??? And if there's anything else I can bring, please let me know.
Woo hoo, thanks Dove for that suggestion!
Love the Sun n Sail Club Weegy! In fact, I am going there tomorrow for the big 4th of July celebration! I belong to the Lake Forest II HOA, and my neighbor has a cabana for the 4th right on the lake. Can't wait! And I'm sure your daughter's weding photos were lovely!
