Maria - beautiful design!
What do you have growing....
ditto! I love it. do you have some more beds to share??
Maria, Thanks for sharing those pics. What fun gardening is when you get results like that. I bought a perennial bachelors button at farm market this weekend, need to get it in the ground today. Maybe now that it has stopped raining I can get a little gardening done today. Enjoy!!
My garden is mostly planted with perennials, I plant most annuals in containers among the perennials as you must have noticed..
This year a friend sent me tuberous dahlias, they are just coming up, almost lost them in that awful rain we had that flooded my gardens
Here is one of my peoy tree I planted last year it just blossomed yesterday
thanks Maria - I loved the pics!
Maria, everything is so pretty! Nice work.
I love the tree peony. Was there a white one too?
I planted one last year. No bloom yet.
What pretty flowers and gardens everyone has. I especially like phuggins ornamental. LOL
I can't believe all the rain we have been getting and the last 3 nights it has been in the 30's.
I've been very busy in the GH with transplanting annuals and potting up Brugs but I can't wait till it dries out enough to work outside.
We are finally supposed to get some sun this weekend.
Maria what is in your windowbox with the petunias? Is it a white geranium? I just can't tell and the foliage looks really ferny.
they are whie marigpolds and lobilia
Thanks!
I just bought a Taro plant by mail. This one is called "Illustris" and is sort of black with green veins. I have it in a giant pot with Coleus Sedona and Kingswood Torch. I must say I was shocked at how small the Taro was- only about 2 or 3 inches high. Does anyone know how fast they are supposed to grow? I think they should call this one panda ear or hippo ear, not Elephant Ear!
what a beautiful color, Andy
They are beautiful. Mine aren't even close to blooms yet.
Lucky you , Andy, to get beautiful gifts like that like that,
Maria, Thanks for the closer look at your other tree peony! God they're gorgeous. I was visiting someone yesterday who has a bright, chiffon yellow tree peony. It was stunning.
Very nice!
I agree!!
Love the additional pics : )
thanks , I do like everyones a lot, spring is greatT
Daffodils and tulilps have gone by already and the poor dwarf rhododendrons lost all their blossoms to the steady rain we had; however, there are still a few things blossoming in the shade garden in front of my house. I tried to take a picture this morning and will post it, but it didn't turn out all that well. There's a beautiful old-fashioned white bleeding heart that's practically merging with a pink wood hyacinth. The forget-me-nots are doing pretty well, but don't really show up in this shot, and the vinca border has more blossoms than are apparent here. The hellebores are doing nicely too, but the blossoms are turning to a kind of greenish tinge that tends to blend into the background.
Mccool, it looks just like a loveley old fashioned country garden,I like that a lot makes me thinkof my daughtrs garden who lives up the street from here
I have anemone (I forgot I had sylvestri), amsonia, globe flower, bleeding heart, pulmonaria (Mrs Moon), allium, columbine,shade/ground cover phlox (stolonoforia?) foam flower and even a few muscari & daffs blooming right now.
This continues to be a period with a lot of holes in my garden. After the daffs & tulips but still before everything else. What do others do to fill up this post most bulb period?
( Lupines seem ready to go next.)
beautiful color, I think it is, Andy, I have them too but not in bloom as yet.
Dave, I always plant annuals in pots and put them around where the bulbs are
Maria, I have perennials that fill in where my bulbs are. What I lack is enough stuff that blooms in late May. I guess, if I thought about it, my garden is best in April, June & August with a lull (of blossoms not plants) in mid May & mid July
(Also later Sept but this bothers me less). Any hints?
dahlis, marygolds, verbena, day lilies, lilioms, filipandula, sedum like autumn joy, dragon head, mallow, any of these?
Sarahskeeper,
I was wondering if the photo of the blue flower could be bachelor's-buttons, also known as cornflower (Centaurea cyanus) ?
Dave 47,
What I have blooming now is salvia, colombine, irises and chives (lovely flowering filler), baptisia, kale, blue-eyed grass (sisyrinchium), and pansies and violas, all for sun. I have perennial violas & violets, ( labrador has purple leaves). Just about to bloom is penstemon "husker red"red leaves, white bell flowers, that turn to garnet red seed pods-nice backed by black-eyed susan. For shadier spots wild geranium, tiarella and heucheras are blooming now. It looks like we are amost in the same zone, hope this is helpful.
Pixie
I agree with Pixie, Andy. I think that's called Bachelor's Button. Mine never stays in the same place. In my yard I would consider it a Biennial along with the Silver Dollar plant.
Pixie - I need more pics! Lovely! What is the tall plant to the left of the indigo?
