SoCal, if there are any left, may I have a piece of the Cerinthe major? Just can't resist that color!
Thanks,
Kathleen
July 8th Roundup Trades
I am lost Lol. Does someone have a P viti left pretty please?
Blooms do you need a mexican sage to go with the russian?
Kathleen, If I can find more out there, I'll bring them all.
Donna
Frogs, yes, it is I. I have two unspoken for!
~'spin!~
The Mexican Bush Sage is not hardy in Moab, but Blooms has been known to take one home just for the summer! I'll prod her to answer for herself.
gypsy - here the rigidida is an annual and is upright... 'Spin thought it trailed because it was lopped over probably. would love some I'll just pop them in place on a seep line. .... monarda and sapponaria on list to bring for you....
Frogs, would love one Mex Sage bush, it will be happy for a short while and then die though... We freeze some time in late October and it will die.. if that sounds too sad for you don't dig it up for me. LOL
My DS is up in a tree lopping dead branches... gotta get pics.
~Blooms
I have seeds for many different varieties/colors of heirloom tomatoes. I also have seeds for Beaver Dam heirloom pepper (hot frying pepper) and Joe's Long cayenne type pepper (12" long, for drying, grinding, powder). I can provide seeds or started plants. I also have seed for a French heirloom lettuce called 'Jeanne' that I got at Seed Savers Exchange (and I now offer it there). It is a beautiful green/maroon marked leaf lettuce.
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b194/coronabarb/Lettuce-Tomatoes001.jpg
I will go through my seed boxes and see what else I can offer. Depending on what is ripe, I can bring citrus for any of you citrus-deprived folks. :-) (I wish I would have ripe tomatoes, but I got them in too late)
I can provide started plants of lemon thyme. (if you don't have this, you really do NEED it)
I am planning a hummingbird garden in front (my first foray into special flowers other than roses) and I hope to plant a lavendar garden out back also, so I will look to see what you all have to offer for that.

Blooms, if I'd realized I was looking for an UPRIGHT V.rigida, I'd'a brought you that named one from Flowerdale. Sheesh, I wish we'd get on the same page one of these days.
Barb, our Anna's hummingbirds love all Salvias and the Leonotis menthifolia. The latter gets pretty big (tall+wide), as do some of the salvias (both or rather all three -- see below -- that I am offering are medium height, but pretty vigorously spreading), so whether they will work for your front garden depends on how big your front is AND whether you are in an Association/HOA-ruled community. Mine hates my semi-native approach to gardening, but the hummers love it.
Abbreviated list for Barb:
Leonotis menthifolia (several! of varying sizes) -- I find this a much more attractive plant than the more common L.leonurus
Salvia cacaliifolia (true blue flowering, trailing-mounding in habit, will actually trail UP a 5-6 foot fence, although not a climber)...
....said to be the one sage that will accept some shade. Mine is between houses getting 2-3 hours of sun (when it shines), else BRIGHT shade.
coral-flowered Salvia x jamensis that I thought was Sierra San Antonio
....(but pics all show light peach or variegated flowers, this is HOT CORAL-ORANGE)
These will all be coming, but you can speak for any of 'em now if you like!

spin,
No HOA for me. :-))) I live in Riverside County (outside of Corona) and can do what I want. I have pretty much unlimited space out back as I have a small front yard and most of the acre behind the house. I could plant any larger/rangy plants in an area I want to put lavenders. So yes to any hummingbird plants.
Corona~Barb
Blooms I have two mexican sage in 5 gal pots. One is yours. Trade you for some russian sage. If someone wants the other-speak up. Spin I have one that is about 15 or so feet across- a dead one or two does not scare me. I just dug one that size out. It has a new home just north of Don.
Janice -- dead one of what? Now I'm lost.
I was talking about the P.viti -- Did you want one?
~'spin!~
I love that this thread is picking up...
I'd love the S. africana-lutea, but if one is all you have, please give it to the next request-er...lol.
As far as leftovers being left here...I'm very prudent about what I compost....lol....almost everything!...lol.
I'll also have a few Salvia leucantha rooted for those who admire or lust for the giant specimen frogsrus is trading. So for those of you with some patience (and it doesn't take much), these small plants will be huge in no time.
CoronaBarb, I'd be jazzed if you'd bring all the seed you have and trade some of it to me for a virtual hummer haven of different Salvias. They actually fight each other for flowers...lol.
best to all,
don
don, that sounds great. I have more than the usual number of hummers here this year and am enjoying them very much. Besides, the spring Rufous, which are gone now, I also have Anna's and Black-Chinned. After reading a post on an inland bird list, I realized that what I thought were very late Rufous were in fact Allen's. So I have 3 varieties visiting often now. I love it.
I will get my tomato and pepper seeds organized and bring them...some might be old and some I only have a few seeds. Do you want a list?
barb
hiya coronabarb,
I don't need a list, but I'm sure there are enough heirloom enthusiasts coming that would like to know what you've got. I'd be happy just getting anything leftover as I have a bunch of space and love to grow tomatoes and chiles.
best to you and your hummers,
don
crystalspin, would you put one of those Salvia cacaliifolia aside for me, please?
Thanks,
Kathleen
Kathleen:
Absolutely!
~'spin!~
Corona - can I reserve some of the beaver dam pepper seeds?
Frogs, okay on the Russian sage, will be potting them this week to give em chance to survive the trip across the desert... will dig a few in case there are more takers...
would swear i had written this somewhere before. LOL my computor took another nose dive this morning. must learn to watch what i'm doing.
will do same with Sapponaria as there are some to be dug out where I am killing invasive grasses. am having pretty good luck with that project. ~~~waving at everybody, ~Blooms
Wow. You guys are amazing! I just started gardening with passion about 8 months ago. All I have are TONS of Delphinium Larkspur and Magic Fountain seeds, some Toadflax seeds and Evening Primrose (live), but I am so inexperienced that I don't even know if the seeds I collected are worth anything.
I hope to learn more about CA gardening- I LOVE the English Cottage garden style, but want to use indigenous plants as much as possible. Hopefully I can learn more from all of you.
I plan to bring rooted plants of Black-eyed Susan vines. This past year, I have been trying to propagate these vines using the cutting method with rooting hormone with not much success. Four months ago I decided to try the layering method and I went out this morning to dig them up, to check if they had rooted. It was a success and I have six to eight plants of each color.
Blackeyed Susan Vine
Thunbergia alata
Rosy/pink flowers
4 to 8 ft.
Blackeyed Susan Vine
Thunbergia alata
Lemon/Yellow flowers
3 to 6 ft
I divided one of my large Rat-Tail Cactus plants and repotted it in four smaller pots. I will be bringing these as well as some additional cuttings to start new plants.
Rat-Tail Cactus
Cactaceae, Aporocactus
Flagelliformis
Red flowers
I will bring rooted plants and/or cuttings of the following flowers.
Marguerite Daisy
Arggranthemum frutescens
Double pink flowers
Autumn lilac (Swedish ivy)
Lamiaceae Plectranthus ciliatus
Lavender Flowers
Perennial Asters
Pink flowers
Loyd
Hi everyone, can I join???
As I will be coming from TX, and CA has such stringent taboos about bringing plant material across the border, we'll have to figure out how to get this stuff there without the Plant Police finding out. I figured out how to pack it all (very efficiently) so it will fit into my carry-on baggage, but can't decide if I should hide it by using a Romulan cloaking device or Harry Potter's invisibility cloak. Maybe better yet, I can just send it all straight to Don's greenhouse via transporter beam. (Darn, I can't find the Transporter Room, they must be using the stupid cloaking device!)
Sigh! Don't worry, somehow these babies will be there. Can't wait to meet everyone!!

Regards from Texas,
maggiemoo/Mary
maggiemoo,
Are you kidding? You're bringing these from Texas?! And I was worried about transporting my plants and a potato salad! Will someone have to go bail you out if you're busted? And will you be able to fit things in to take back with you? I'm new here, so is this the farthest someone has come for a R.U.?
Sherry
P.S. Is there some kind of award for coming the longest distance?
P.P.S. Now that I think about it, would you have to split that award with Blooms? I'll have to dig out my atlas. Or Mapquest it.

The plant police have been duly notified of your intent to import potentially illegal alien plants. The department of homeland paranoia will be greeting you at the airport....
gigantic hugs and woohoo, only two weeks to maggiemoo!
best,
don
Hey Maggie,
So glad to see you want to join in with our trading. :-) If you feel uncomfortable about getting through the airport, just mail the whole box to Dons, and vise a versa. When ever I fly somewhere and find plants I want to buy, I just mail them home. hehe
Please check out my plants for trade also and pick whatever your heart desires. I will check out more of your plants soon, but would really like to put in my order for your one of your colocasia 'Illustrus' please. I would also like one of the Gloxinia sylvatica and Barleria repens seeds.
Sherry, I attended the RU in Kentucky 3 yrs. ago and I did get a nice little gift for coming the farthest that time. This year we have Blooms coming from Utah and Roadrunner coming from Arizona, along with Maggie coming from Texas. I think that can tell you how nice our little RU will be. You will enjoy yourself for sure.
I am really looking forward to meeting both of you this year.
Donna
Donna, I know already that I'm going to try to make it to the No Cal roundups (my Dad lives up there), but now you've got me thinking of other trips! Did you have any other reason for going to Kentucky, or you just couldn't resist the R.U.? And just how many boxes did you mail home?! I was kidding. I didn't know you really got a gift for coming so far!
Good morning Sherry,
Why did I go all the way to KY for a RU....because of the people that I have met here at DG. I have been a member here for 6 yrs. and have really met some wonderful people and made many life long friends. I just had to meet them and have a nice visit with many of them. It was propably one of the best vacations I've had in a long time.
I also tried to go to the NoCalif. RU this past Spring, but something came up at the last minute and I couldn't attend. Hopefully next time.
Donna
Donna, I'd never checked into the roundups forum before, so took a look and was disappointed to see that No Cal was having a roundup June 14. Had I been more observant, I'd have gone. Then saw that they've postponed it til fall..yippee. I like the idea of fall better anyway. Weather's good and gives more time to see what people may want and to propagate.
As time gets short, and I have yet to see a couple of things I'm hunting for I'd like to put out a request for any fresh tip cuttings of Echium fastuosum and any healthy divisions of Romneya coulteri. I'm planning a gray foliage garden with blue and white flowers and haven't seen anyone offering these two fairly common plants. If you've got some extras, please bring some....I'll trade you a horse for some....lol.
hope all are well,
don
Hi Dr.Don,
I've got you covered on the Echium, but need to talk to you.. sending you a D-mail..
A.
P.S.. edited to say: Which horse? lol it's gotta be a little one cuz I'm only 5'1"

just reading thru and feel like adding that I went to the Mid-Atlantic RU in Maryland last year. Of course I was enroute from NY at my Sis's on my way back to Utah. So it wasn't like I traveled the distance to be there, just planned my departure from DS's to match with the RU date.
All I have to do is cross the Mohave at night because I have no AC in my car and the temps have been waaaay too hot daytimes. And I will be crossing at Parker to go thru Joshua Tree in hopes that the nite time temps are cooler in JT region. Plus that way I avoid Vegas... something i prefer to do.... they have gnarly traffic... sometimes it's just easier to get off and use the Blvd traffic lights to get thru town. dunh, i also avoid veggie inspection. LOL
drdon,
I also have echium cuttings and/or seeds and possibly romneya. I'd dug several earlier and have promised one to kaperc. Will see if the others look like they're going to make it. I dug them later than usual.
Woohooo!
Sherry,
If you only have one sturdy romneya, please give it to Don. I have one that is healthy and you guys can tell me how/when to divide it. I want lots of them!
Kathleen
Oh, great, Don! Now that the authorities have been notified, I'll have no choice but to strap these boxes on my back and fly across the state lines using my own wings! They won't be able to pick me up on radar since I fly pretty low to the ground (especially with all those plants on my back, lol.)
Don't worry, everyone, I have obtained the services of a professional to help me with this.
;-)
Woohoo! One week and five days to drdon's and pamtannia's!!!
hiya maggiemoo!,
giant hug,
We've notified all the authorities and none of them are the least bit interested in the plants you are bringing, but now want to know about your stealth technology.......lol.
we're both just so jazzed you're coming,
don
as I pointed out, crossing from Parker, Az to Joshua Tree, Ca one doesn't run into the veggie check. LOL
was just a joke.

Frogs, does your neighbor still have the ashes of roses color of reed stemmed orchid? If so, I would sure like a start.
George, my/your epidendrum just bloomed - it's medium pink.
If anyone else would like a start, I'm happy to share. It's a little sunburned, but a good grower.
Kathleen
Way ahead of you George. It is potted and ready to go!
I need to pick your brain on dividing the large ones though. Some of mine are getting ridiculously large and rangy.
If I owe anybody anything, let me know because I can't make the RU. I had geraniums someone wanted and I have no problem mailing them instead...LMK.
