Spring Bulbs - Pictures and Discussion - Part VIII

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Wallaby, That Estella is fabulous.

Funny how everyone prefers a different one of my 3 Tulips.
I like the Pink the best of the 3.
I forgot one.

Hmmm... care to guess who likes this one? :-)

I'm off work today & plan on playing outside all day in this gorgeous
spring weather we're getting.

Tammy, could it be you? LOL

Sunny and warm today, I have a new one open!!!
There are only a few left, hope they are different.

I've never taken pics of them before, this being my first year with a digital camera.
I'm up to 20 different types, not counting my neighbors. Who would have guessed?

Yummy, yum, yum. Delicious. Thanks for sharing. I thought I had the last bulbs last week, but these are hidden behind everything else.

And my other gaudy one. LOL.

Bulbocodium Golden Bells, I planted them between the Viola Freckles at the edges of the rose bed and the viola have filled the gaps! They were a foot apart or so, but grow stolons. They don't seem to mind, perhaps like it although I don't get a lot of flowers they do return.

Nice narcissus pitimp., any name? I like the gaudy parrots, I have some blue come black ones returned in the hosta bed which was done in 2000.

Andy I like the last pic, melon goblets!

A pink/white no name in the hosta bed, returned from 2000.

This was supposed to be Tulip Eastern Star, I've had them about 7 years and a couple flowered 1st time last year! Lilac Wonder by the looks. The foliage is glossy, it grows over winter and they run under and over ground (loops) making new bulbs along the way. Still only 3 in flower but lots of foliage and increasing all the time.

Could they be getting better as the season winds down?
Maybe I just have a short memory...
I visited the neighbor this evening.

Another view.

Vossner, I think I'll name that orange one - 'Orange Gelato'. Very appropriate.

I love 'Shirley'. The blooms continue to change each day and sometimes develop an almost iridescent sheen.

Chicago, IL

Sorry. The Narcissus is 'Tripartite. The parrot tulip is 'Fantasy'. They are my last before Allium picks up the slack.

I like bulbocodium but it did not like me or my clay soil.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

OK, Here is that mystery Narcissus.
My neighbors mom planted these 30 - 40 years ago. He gave me a few bulbs because I love the fragrance.
The flower is less than 3 inches wide. A late bloomer.
Any ideas what it might be called?
Thanks NoH2O for the Shirley, I'll tell him. (Same neighbor)

It is most likely N poeticus recurvus, some of us posted look alikes earlier. There are other N poeticus varieties.

Thanks Wallaby, I may have seen the earlier posts but couldn't remember exactly what this one looked like. Very few flowers.

I have a few pics of my tulips to share. I was not happy with my daffadils this year. Most of them only had leaves but not flowers....Strange!!

On the contrary, my tulips are spectacular. It is the best one for the last 4 years.

Asunee, those are beautiful pictures of gorgeous flowers. I bet they are stunning in person.

If your daffodils are mostly leaves with few flowers, they probably need to be divided..

Denver, CO

Asunee, I would love to knwo the name of that Orange Parrot.

I am having a great time looking at all of these. Spring bulbs are about done here as summer heat sets in, few bulbs in bloom. Thsi thread will be of great help in finding plants that bloom after the late tulips and before Glads and Dahlias and all, as the Early summer is drab in my garden.

Keep them a-coming, friends,
Kenton

Asunee, just glorious!

Kenton, you bring up a good point; seems like there is always a gap between spring bulbs and early perennials when the garden needs color. Hmmm, sounds like a good thread topic.

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Asunee I love your bulb garden, the metal railings set it off to perfection!

OK folks, if you want some action take a look at this

NO - tell me what kind of camera your sister uses. Mine just will not take closeups that are close, close up. She takes some awesome pics

Gemini Sage, My 'transition' flower is the Columbine.
Just as the last late Tulip fades the Columbine blooms.
(PS. Sarv, If you have a Brooks pharmacy near you check out this weeks flier. They have a 5.2 MP Fuji A350 for $139. That's where I got my Fuji 4.1 MP last June for $150. Best buy around for a Macro.)

This is supposed to be a St Joseph's Lily, but it has reverse coloration. I notified source and they are investigating. I think it is quite pretty and very tall~ over 3 ft.

Always fun to grow your own bouquets :)) The rose is called Purple Tiger and has really out-done herself so far this year.

jlmmkm, your 12:13 pic (that's supposed to be St. Joseph's lily) looks like Amaryllis 'Picotee' to me. If you don't want it, you could send it my way. LOL. I want one of those!

Chicago, IL(Zone 5a)

Thanks Guys for the compliment.

Kenton, I was trying to find the file that I used to lay out my bulb garden last year but failed to find it. I'll keep looking. :-)

jlmmkm, i agree that it looks like amaryllis picotee, except the back blooms seems so have a little too much red. Is there another amaryllis plant behind the picotee? in any case, picotee is definitely a favorite of mine. Also the purple rose. I love that one!

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

I think we're seeing the back side of the petals.

Myrtle Beach, SC

I agree with both of you, but I bought it to be St Joseph's. I really like her looks, too. No, there isn't one behind her. When she multiplies I'd be happy to share with you both :)) God bless, Margo

oh I see. that is definitely picotee. so nice of you to offer, but I fell in love and got it last year. I know you will enjoy as much as I do. I would contact the source and send them this pic. this is so far from being St Joseph! Could have been a bona fide mistake that they will be more than happy to rectify.

Northwest, OH(Zone 5b)

Margo, I would be thrilled if you'd share 'Picotee'! Thank you so much for the offer! Just let me know when you can, and we'll work out a trade or I can pay shipping. :-)

Good to see your pics Margo! The lily show has begun for you, what a happy time! My first are still a few weeks away, but at least I can see buds plumping up. And your amaryllis are great; I love seeing them in the garden. Are they winter hardy for you?

I have exciting garden news: all 5 of my Spring Valley hybrids Eremerus (Foxtail lily) have buds arising! 18 spikes of them!! You can just imagine the happy dance. They came from Brent&Becky's 1/2 off sale. To celebrate, I interplanted them with LA hybrid and Asiatic lilies that are described as antique salmon and buttercup yellow.
