Favorite Products Gone Like That....

That's definitely it! We made it on a cookie sheet. You let the dough rise and then load it up with (our choice) onions, green olives, pepperoni, mushrooms and banana peppers. Mmmm!

The crust was always perfectly done and the sauce had a sort of sweet, tomatoey flavor that I can still remember. Thanks for that link, andidandi!

Yahoooooo!! I've just ordered 4 bags of my Folger's coffee! Thank you thank you thank you!!! :-) I just love it. Have tried others, but no matter how expensive, I always come back to this one. :-)

I love Lamaur Apple Pectin styling mousse. They're still making all the other apple pectin products but no more hair styling mousse. Sheverne

There used to be a candy bar that was soooo good. Any time I went to the public pool, I always got one..It would get all melty and gooey from the heat but dang! was it good..Think it was called Butternut?? Zero bars are common in many parts of East, Southeast, and South Texas...
Any of yall recall seeing your Mom(or you?) pulling off the top of her hair and putting it on a styrofoam "head"? Wiglets..that's what they were..I always put makeup on my Mommas styrofoam head for her I really had a thing for blue..i am talkin BLUE eye shadow back then! LOL!!!! Talk about ages ago!!
OOOOOHHHHHH..I almost forgot..BUDDY BUBBLE GUM!!! That has got to be THE best gum I have ever, in all my 46 years, had!!! My Grand-daddy used to walk me to the local candy store in Lindale, Texas..I always got Buddy Bubble Gum. It had two pieces of stick bubble gum and only cost a PENNY!!

Thought I posted on this thread, but maybe not.

Anyway, my nominations:

St. Ives shampoo and conditioner. I really liked it, and it was affordable. All of a sudden -- poof! No more St. Ives.

Laura Ashley No. 1 perfume. I loved that perfume! Then it was suddenly gone.

River driver shirts. LL Bean used to have them. They don't, anymore.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I think I remember Butternut candy bars, but I might be confusing my memory. Butterfinger is still around. Can you remember if they were similar? Did one maybe become the other?

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

lol...I remember riding my bike to the candy store on the highway in the early 70's and buying candy that included a stick of "lipstick" that that was bright red and had a velvety texture. Gold foil covered the bottom part of it. Yumm....sure miss those..lol And remember candy cigarettes? lol, just imagine....kids playing with candy cigarettes! They didn't taste so great. Sort of slimy...lol :p

The butternuts were ..like..gooey..like a nougat, maybe? All I know is they were soooo good!!..and Melanie..yep..I remember the candy cigarettes all too well..I grew up in Palestine, Texas and used to ride my bike to Harris' Food Store..It was a good mile from our house..but shoot..give me 50 cents and I could come home loaded with candy of all sorts..Remember the Wax Harmonicas??? They were fun to play and even tasted good!!!

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

lol...I do remember those wax harmonicas...! AND the wax lips and wax mini soda bottles with awful green or red sweet liquid in them, lol. :p

Melanie

Ingleside, TX(Zone 9a)

Yeah.that liquid was sorta gross..I bought my grandson some of the wax lips..thinking they would be as tasty as I remembered..Boy..was I ever wrong..Bland, yucky..Aaahhh..for the good tastes of yester-years candies!!

Tisa Tea. It came in cubes, and you would just drop
one into a cup of hot water to disolve. It came in flavors
like Rose Hip, Mint, and Chamomile.

One day, it just disappeared from the shelves of every
deli. I finally tracked down the manufacturer in Switzerland,
but to no avail. They weren't making any more, period.

If I had known beforehand, I would have bought a case of
each flavor. Oh, well.

Wuvie, I wonder if the candy bar you remember as "7-Up" is the same candy I remember from the 1950's that I have thought of so many times over the years...I have always thought it was called "7-Up"...it was my treat from the candy machine at the bowling alley in Minot North Dakota for being a good kid while my dad was bowling...I only remember two parts of the candy bar I am thinking of... the middle was a Brazil Nut and one of the little side candies was like an orange jelly sorta thing...don't remember the rest except it being 3 different flavors on each side with the nut in the middle...I would slowly nibble all around til only the nut was left...what a wonderful memory...Deb

Butternuts has a sort of chewy bottom covered with nuts on top and covered all over with chocolate. Was wishing the other day I had one of them. Also have not seen since 1981 at Pt. Mugu, CA the vanilla wafers (not vanilla wafers) and marshmallow cookies that Nabisco made. They stopped making them in the early '80's. I had eaten them since I was a little girl and I am now 64. Also the chocolate wafer cookes that Nabisco made. Vermont country store has them, but they are so expensive. And the raisin biscuit cookies Nabisco made. NABISCO - take note - a lot of people liked them better than the junk you make now. LIZ

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

Oh yes, those raisin biscuit cookies from Nabisco. Just hearing Liz mention them made my mouth water. My favorites as a kid were the red wax lips and those paper strips with sugar dots. I also liked the black licorice sticks. Licorice today just doesn't taste the same.

Just found this thread and it is great to go back in time! I well remember Evening In Paris, candy cigarettes, wax lips and the harmonica. I remember my brothers with their "Davy Crockett coon skin hats".
What I really miss, like Tir_Na_Nog, is the chocolate silk p.b.
I called Jiff and they said it was discontinued due to lack of demand.
I assured them there are lots of us that would like to have it back.
I also remember, but don't miss, walking to school and being in classes with windows open and no air conditioning. Don't they call that "The good old days"????

lewiston, ID(Zone 6a)

It was the good ole' days when you could collect pop bottles & turn them in at the PigglyWiggly or local corner market and have enough to buy a handful of penny candies. Now they say the penny costs more to make than it is worth so probably will do away with it...too bad, so much of our simpler life is ebbing away along with with many other values that we used to hold dear....That's why after growing up in North Dakota & then spending my professional life in California I am glad to be back to my small town life in Idaho....Deb

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

purple: THANK YOU THANK YOU for contacting Jif about our PB!!!!! Who doesn't like chocolate mixed with peanut butter? Lack of demand? They better talk to the candy companies about this then...wouldn't want reese's to go off the market to! LOL!

Love how this thread has a new life with nostolgic memories of childhood candies. You can still buy those sticks of gum that look like cigarettes. I used to love playing with those but hard to imagine that was actually made huh?

Savannah, GA(Zone 8b)

Deb, when I was a child, we lived in the country and I picked up many soda bottles from the side of the road and turned them in for candy. That was before the "litter law", now we throw those bottles in the trash. Then again, most of our pop comes in cans!
Gosh this is making me feel old!

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

Do they still make Mallo Cups? That was my favorite thing to get trick or treating.

I liked Avon's Bird of Paradise cologne.

St. Ives used to make a honey and almond (I think) shampoo that made my hair shiny unlike anything else I've tried since.

A few months ago a got a product called Mildew Root. I think it was by Tilex. It is the only thing I have found that gets to the mildew that forms under the silicone sealant. About a month ago I went to buy some more but they didn't have any. There wasn't even a space for it on the shelf. Some time when I'm at a bigger store I'll have to look for it.

Rife, PA(Zone 6a)

I'm not very old, but I can remember a few items that were taken off the market around here.

There were Corn Chips that came in containers like Pringles do. They disappeared several years back.
I can remember when Pop Secret, I believe it was, used to have a line of popcorn that came in different colors.
At one time Ocean Spray used to make candy with the same flavors as their juices. That was short-lived.
I can just barely remember those wax mini soda bottles with the flavored juice inside.
I can also remember a type of gum made by 7-up that came in green or red and had a sort of "gel" inside that tasted like the Regular 7-up and Cherry 7-up. I have yet to find someone that remembers this gum.
I came across a discontinued type of Canada Dry Ginger-Ale once that was Lemon-flavored.
I also miss those Potpourri sprays from the 80s. Those scents have never been equalled since.

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

Kelli, we'd be lost without Mildew Root. Just got some the other day at our local HEB. It's made by Tilex. In the shower where the grouting meets the tile, the moisture gets under there and lo and behold, mildew. That stuff can only be taken out w/Mildew Root.
Does anyone ever make or buy cinnamon rolls w/raisins in them? And not so much frosting? The raisins seem to cut the sweet, sweet taste? Wish I was a good baker.......

Ann

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

lol Sherlock...I remember that gum with the gel inside...! I had forgotten about those....wow, that was in the 70's I think, or the early 80's.

Cool thread! ; )

Prego used to make a sweet and sour sour sauce you could find in with the spaghetti sauces. I moved and I thought they just didn't carry it here in Kansas, but when I took a trip back West to my old place, it was gone there, too. It was REALLY good. ; (

I also miss fry sauce. lol
